WOW, what an awesome interview that doesn’t even include Adam talking!!
This is a radio interview with Slash, who was a mentor last year on Idol. What I didn’t know, was that he ended up being a mentor because he wanted to see ADAM!!
What a huge compliment to our guy.
Adam, you rock our world…

Here is some great insight into the “behind the scenes” effort that Adam put in during his run on American Idol. He is the real deal…

Idol’s Music Director Shares ‘Inside’ Secret!
Check out the interview below with Idol’s music director Rickey Minor.
J.C.: What’s your greatest ‘inside’ secret you tell Idol contestants?
Rickey: I always tell them, ‘Nobody’s ever going to know the notes you were supposed to sing, but didn’t. People don’t remember notes, they remember your heart. They remember if you make them feel the song; you need to access their emotions, make them cry.’
J.C.: Did Adam Lambert take your advice?
Rickey: Absolutely! That guy knew the whole deal the second he got here. I give my email to the top twelve once they’re selected, and that guy would send me emails in layers every night to figure out every single angle of a song he was thinking of doing. Different versions, and arrangements; he so got it. He was like a hungry, ever thirsty boy. So we had fun doing tracks for him, and he had a great work ethic. Adam Lambert gave more than he got and was great to work with.

I am laughing at my computer because spell check is having trouble with the word everlovin’, hahaha!! I’m not sure that I can say I have EVER had to use words, like the one’s I use now, to describe Adam. He has certainly glittered up my articles, that is a given. I now present to you, another glowing review from EW.com:

‘American Idol’: Adam Lambert completely blew my everlovin’ mind (on the scene for results night)

Fans of my snark demon Smirkelstiltskin will be sorely disappointed to learn that he will not be appearing in this on-the-scene recap of last night’s American Idol results show (after this paragraph, anyway). Smirkel had such high hopes for it, too, given that the very first sign we saw upon entering the Idoldome said “CT hearts Katie!” (like, the very same CT from The Real World Paris, and The Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Inferno, and The Inferno II, and The Duel, and The Inferno III, and The Gauntlet 3, and The Duel 2? That CT? Who knew he was such a fan of reality competition shows?). But then Adam Lambert took to the stage, delivering by miles the best live guest performance I’ve seen on an Idol results show ever in the history of awesome. Alas, Smirkel became so enraptured by Glambert’s laser-light tornado that he let one of the green laser beams hit him square in his third eye. He’s currently convalescing inside Randy Jackson’s belly button lint trap.
Suffice it to say, Glambert completely blew my everloving mind last night, and judging from the deafening roars from the live audience before, during, and after his performance of “Whataya Want from Me,” I’d say I was far from alone. Unlike the horrid group numbers, which are exponentially more horrid in person, in large part because they are choreographed for the cameras and not the studio audience, Glambert constructed his number as much (if not more) for those of us inside Idoldome as those of you watching from home. For one thing, as cool as those lasers looked on TV, they had true dimension and shape in person (in other words, they were in 3D!). For another, the music simply sounded big and gorgeous live, a perfect sonic match for the visual spectacle. Unfortunately, both the live show and the televised version were hobbled by a way over-zealous fog machine; I’d love to tell you what the Idols and judges made of Glambert’s show, but all that smoke utterly obscured them from view.
Oh, that’s right, this was a results show, not a Glambert concert. You could’ve been forgiven for thinking it was the latter, though. A completely unscientific visual survey of the audience counted at least as many pro-Glambert posters as ones for all the other current Idol hopefuls combined. And the mere sight of Glambert during the show’s Dramatic! Opening! Video! Montage! sent the audience into conniptions.
Yes, of course, the Idoldome crowd also had some love for the judges — especially Ellen DeGeneres, who was greeted like a minor rock star herself — as well as the Top 9, although as they scattered around the stage to their places for the group number, they all appeared far too nervous to really acknowledge the adulation. All save for Tim Urban, who really couldn’t be happier to be anywhere else, or to be anyone else, for that matter. Right before they began their lip-synced desecration of the Elvis Presley catalogue, Grinning Timmy even smashed it out with Big Mike, coaxing the new father into the rare non-stankified facial expression.
After the group number, we entered the ad break, and Simon was surprisingly the first judge to welcome Elliott Yamin. The Idols were placed on the velvet benches of doom, and Ryan walked in while singing the single word “Viva!” over and over, but otherwise, in stark contrast to Tuesday night, the host appeared well-rested and was well behaved. As Ryan went around shaking every Idol’s hand and wishing them well, Debbie started fanning an overheated Big Mike’s big head. Mike soon began fanning himself with his hat, until finally a make-up person had to blot the dude’s face with some paper towel. Goodness, lip-syncing can be such exhausting work.
Just as we were about to come back from the break, I noticed Lee Dewyze sitting cross-legged on the benches, and for some reason I desperately wished he’d stayed seated like that. Perhaps it would’ve put poor Lee in a more zen state of mind for the wrenching events that were about to unfold. As it was, after Lee’s bestest buddy ever Andrew Garcia was 86?d from the show, Lee clearly had no idea what to do with himself. After Andrew’s farewell song (during which all the Idols clapped along, except for Big Mike), Lee hung far back as the rest of the contestants swarmed Andrew for the customary bear hug goodbye. Then the judges approached Andrew for their habitual final words of encouragement, and Lee began nervously pacing across a small patch of the stage, as if he realized that his own chance at a farewell moment with Andrew was quickly slipping by him. Lee’s eyes became fixed on the judges, willing them to just speed it up already, for chrissakes.
Eventually, though, the demands of live television intervened, and Debbie had to move all the remaining Idols back to the benches. She gently placed Lee on the last spot next to Siobhan, where he looked like a boy who’s watching his best friend from down the street move away and no one will give him a chance to say good-bye. Finally, Debbie took Andrew in hand to lead the newly axed Idol off stage; seeing his opportunity, Lee intercepted them, but it everything just came out all wrong. Lee sorta half fell into his bro-hug with Andrew, awkwardly forcing his buddy backwards a few steps, and it looked like they barely had time to get out a few cursory words before Debbie wrenched Andrew away for good. Even with Ellen taking the time to talk to Andrew’s wife in the audience, it was just not enough for Lee, not by a long shot. With Andrew gone, he slumped back down onto his seat, occasionally sharing his bitter discontent with the remaining Idols, who could do nothing to mend Lee’s broken heart and so glumly stared off into the middle distance instead.
And that’s how they all remained, from the Idol Gives Back package with Elliott and Kara, through Brooke White and Justin Gaston last-minute duet of Elvis Presley’s “If I Can Dream.” With my snark demon in recovery, I have nothing to really share with you about this performance, other than the only Idol to show any real engagement with it was, yes, Tim Urban, who managed to tap his left foot to the beat through most of the song. Through my entire life, one of my mother’s unrelenting mantras as been ”attitude is everything,” and good grief does Tim follow that aphorism with single-minded enthusiasm. Even after he was bottom three’d, Tim practically ambled off the stage with Big Mike and Katie, his perfect grin splashed effortlessly across his face.
As the crew loaded in Glambert’s equipment with clockwork efficiency, Siobhan clasped her hands together tightly, almost doubled over in her seat, and MamaSox gave Lee a warm hug. The audience was so keyed up for their promised dose of Glambert that some began wildly cheering when one of his band mates stepped onto the stage. When the real Glambert finally appeared with about 15 seconds to go before air, the place became unmoored, and I’ll be darned if Glambert didn’t look totally humbled by the sheer tonnage of adulation.
After he finished performing, Debbie brought Tim, Mike, and Katie back out into the wings, and I realized that they had apparently missed the chance to see Glambert perform live. Ryan threw to commercial, and all eight remaining Idols made a bee-line for Glambert, along with Kara and Randy. Simon left the stage immediately, waving his hand in front of his face as if bothered by the saturation of smoke in the air — kinda ironic since, according to Seacrest, Simon uses practically every ad break to steal away a chance to smoke.
We came back from the break, Ryan told Tim to smile, told Mike he was safe and not even in the bottom three, and told Katie her Idol journey was at an end. As she delivered a shaky, humanizing “Let It Be,” Debbie got the entire audience to clap along merely by miming clapping to the beat from the extreme stage left edge of the Idoldome. This woman could lead a small army if she wanted to.
Out of nowhere, Andrew appeared again on stage, and before anyone had a chance to blink, Lee had zipped himself by his BFF’s side, wrapping one arm around him, beaming with genuine relief and great pleasure at the second chance to say goodbye. Then Andrew and Katie’s Idol journeys began unspooling on the Thunderscreen, and the reality proved too much for Lee, who once again separated himself from the rest of the group, choosing to nervously fidget in solitude instead. Katie, meanwhile, just buried her face into Casey James’ chest. After the show was officially over, in fact, Katie proceeded to bury her face in the chest of anyone willing to match her two-arms-slapped-tightly-around-your-back embrace (e.g., not Simon).
Finally, after much lingering, especially on the part of Katie and the judges, Debbie cleared the stage for two post-show taped performances. The second, by Lady Antebellum, I did not get to see, as the first, a comedy bit for Idol Gives Back, took a whopping 45 minutes to complete, and I desperately needed to eat. The skit in question featured Russell Brand and Jonah Hill (coincidentally, the stars of this June’s Get Him to the Greek), in a pre-taped bit in which they pretend to head up a celebrity Idol Gives Back call in center and banter with Seacrest back at the Idoldome. Last night, Ryan had to pre-tape his side of that dialogue, but it doesn’t really matter whether that makes any sense or not, since Ryan himself put it best once he was done: “I don’t know how I’m going to look good [in this skit].”
What does matter was the disarmingly charming way Seacrest entertained the audience while the Idol crew sorted out their complicated technical concerns. He commiserated about craving chicken stir fry, and how funny it would be for the entire audience to flash mob a Whole Foods for dinner. He took audience questions: Yes, he wears a new suit every week. Yes, “I do date girls,” though not for very long. He is 5? 8? (“and three-quarter inches with shoes!”), but he does not wear lifts — although one unnamed Idol judge apparently does. His preferred scent is Thallium cologne. And then there was this: “Do I watch…what’s The Soup? I like Joel McHale. He’s my friend. I give him enough material, don’t I? Joel McHale walks my dog.”
At this point, both Ryan and Debbie grew impatient with waiting, and started bickering like old marrieds:
Ryan: [to audience] Have you met my wife, Debbie?
Debbie: Oh that would last about two seconds.
Ryan: [to Debbie] Are you married now?
Debbie: No, I’m not, a——.
Ryan: [to audience] You have to understand, Debbie and I have worked together almost every day for ten years, and—
Debbie: He can be annoying.
Ryan: She calls it annoying, I call it charming. [Begins singing] “Whadaya want from me?!”
Debbie: Your blood.
Priceless. Absolutely priceless.

TV Review: Adam Lambert’s performance of “Whataya Want From Me” on American Idol
By Robbie Woliver/www.examiner.com
Adam Lambert, the runner-up of American Idol Season 8—and to be completely factual, the most talented and certainly most exciting contestant ever to appear on the show—returned this week to mentor this year’s stable of contestants. His appearance was a major success for the struggling show, which has seen its viewership drop and has encountered much bad press of late about the very disappointing group vying for the title that even the brilliant Lambert didn’t win. He garnered high ratings the same way he drew millions during his reign, but yet his appearance was a terrible blow to the show. It only further made it perfectly clear that no one this year was even near his league, except for Crystal Bowersox. No, her performance style is hardly as thrilling as Lambert’s, nor is she as innovative, but she sure as hell can sing. As for the others, Lambert’s advice to them before he even picked up a microphone was more exciting than their performances.
In our previous review of Lambert’s mentor night, it was discussed how Adam shamed the final nine just by showing up. He was on fire, and wanted to shake some life into the group, ready to stir up a languid couple of months and some god-awful performers.
Wednesday night, as Glambert took the stage to sing, he owned the moment and performed unquestionably the best four minutes of this entire yawnfest of a season. Considering this week’s theme, Lambert was the Maybelline Elvis, all eyeliner, 8-inch-high, coal-black pompadour, sharp-looking metallic jacket and a voice that could wake the dead. He was commanding, forceful, mastering every note known to man. He was sexy. Intense. He was everything a superstar should be. He was this generation’s King.
With green lasers shooting in his direction and hypnotic green-smoke special effects, Lambert swooned through the slowed down start of “Whataya Want From Me,” his current hit, and built to that familiar, dramatic crescendo that had us enthralled only a year ago. Remember this past Tuesday when Siobhan, the Adam wannabe (she’s not, by far), started her “Suspicious Minds” so slow and then built the second half ending with her predictable screech? Well, that’s not how Adam did it. Siobhan, take a lesson.
The song itself is wonderful. Written by Pink and Max Martin, it was released at the most opportune, though perhaps unscheduled, time for the then-fledgling star. Anticipation was high for Lambert’s first live post-Idol appearance, and the American Music Awards landed the big “get.” But Lambert, all wired from the pressure and excited about debuting with his new band, let loose a little too much for some, simulating S&M and sexual acts both hetero and homo during his performance, the live debut of his first single, “For Your Entertainment.”
It’s a shame he performed this curious song on the stodgy, irrelevant AMAs instead of, let’s say, on the MTV Video Music Awards, because there that kinky performance would have been heralded. On the AMAs he was ripped apart, even though the performance was brilliant. The song is a decadent one. It was just the wrong TV audience, and he certainly lost fans. But he didn’t need those who retreated. He is currently as popular as it gets in contemporary music. His large legion of fans are widespread, diverse and hopelessly devoted.
So how does someone “recover” from a perceived fatal error at one’s career start? Lambert was lucky. On his new album, For Your Entertainment, there sat a beautiful ballad that dealt with peeling away perceptions and layers of fame. The battle for a performing artist between one’s self and the persona on stage was the tug he was living. “Whataya Want From Me” is that song. And it worked. Not only did it race up the charts, it salvaged his almost-wasted career, redeemed him and seemed to refresh and redirect him.
Here he now back on the Idol stage, the prodigal son returned, being all rock god-y before a sea of absolutely delirious fans. (They don’t even scream like that for their current eye-not-ear candy Tim Urban and Casey James.) Lambert woke the damn place up. He reminded everyone what this music reality show was supposed to be about. Where are the Kelly Clarksons? Where are the Fantasias battling the LaToya Londons and Jennifer Hudsons? Where is the pristine voice of Melinda Doolittle? Daughtry? Where is even Lilly Scott? Where is the drama? The skill? The inventiveness?
When interviewed by Ryan Seacrest after his performance, the always gracious Lambert said, “I owe this show everything.” And that’s true, but it works both ways. Adam brought hip cred to Idol that was desperately needed, and which was quickly lost when the less provocative Kris Allen won.
Through his triumphant battle-storm of a performance and his personable demeanor, Lambert taught a master lesson in Rockstar 101. Afterwards, the camera panned to the pathetic three up for elimination—Tim, Mike (whose constant mugging is unbearable) and Katie. The trio stood sadly, looking pathetic and defeated in their casual clothes with their slouched shoulders. Following the fiery, glammed-out Lambert, the difference in charisma and talent could not have been more obvious.
A suggestion: Crown the deserving Bowersox with the title next week and end the tired run. Simon certainly doesn’t want to be there anymore. And then bring Adam on the road to select next year’s contestants. Oh, and have him perform every night.
Simon’s always waiting for a “moment.” Well, he sure got one with Adam’s thrilling, knockout performance. Lambert is one of a kind—and that’s, simply, the best.
IN OTHER WORDS: Love this guy. End of story.

‘Idol’s’ Top 9 share their favorite Adam Lambert moments
April 14, 2010 | 9:39 pm
Elvis-top9
After Tuesday’s performance show, we asked most of season 9’s Top 9 (Tim Urban eluded the question somehow) for their favorite Adam Lambert moment, be it from last year’s “American Idol,” his career since or their Vegas experience with the season 8 runner-up as their mentor. Read on for some major Adam adoration…
Siobhan Magnus: “Just meeting him was incredible; his presence is really big and he’s just so positive and genuinely kind. He said he would figuratively be throwing glitter at me, and I felt it up there.”
Lee DeWyze: “Last season, he was amazing. There’s too many [performances] to pick, but when he was mentoring us, he was really honest, which is really good for me. He told me exactly what he thought about my song, and what he thought I should do with it. It was really cool for me to hear him be that honest.”
Crystal Bowersox: “Having Adam tell me that he wouldn’t change anything about the song, that was really, really cool coming from someone who’s a great entertainer, and then we talked about lighting and presentation. I got some good info out of him.”
Katie Stevens: “I loved when Adam sang ‘Feeling Good’ last year. That was one of my favorite songs. He came down the stairs and all cool, and with the light in the background and it got bigger and he did his whole riffing crazy ridiculous chops thing. Having him as a mentor was just incredible, because he knows what we’re going through, so he’s able to give us the best feedback.”
Casey James: “He was a great mentor, he had a good vibe. Immediately when I met him, he had a good energy, I was comfortable, I didn’t feel awkward singing him the song, and then when he gave me the feedback, it was actually really hands-on constructive feedback. It was really great.”
Andrew Garcia: “My favorite is when he mentored me; he knows what we went through, because he’s been through the same thing. He’s really on our level. When he was a contestant, he was never scared, he had all this confidence. He’s a really cool guy.”
Aaron Kelly: “Adam Lambert is such a great performer. Last year, on every single performance, he was consistent. And having him as a mentor was really cool because he’s been through this before, and he pretty much knows what’s right and wrong, what we should do. I mean, he’s got the experience.”
Michael Lynch: “My favorite Adam Lambert moment is hearing about his reputation from the crew and from our handlers. He was always prepared, a super good kid; he’s just one of the people they talk the highest about. To me, that’s something that’s important. I always want my reputation with the people I work with to be good, and to see that about him, that he’s one of the people they talk about out of all the seasons, that’s my favorite thing about him.”

The excitement was building as Part 2 of the “American Idol-Best Mentor EVER” show got closer and closer with none other than OUR very own Adam Lambert!!
Adam-Lambert-IdolImage Credit: Frank Micelotta/Fox
I can honestly say, I WAS SPEECHLESS, with tears in my eyes! All I wanted was for him to surpass all the expectations, and man did he ever. I felt like a mom wanting my child to hit that perfect note, especially after his infamous “live” performance that many people did not like. I know they were out there this evening wanting him to fail again, but that was not an option on THIS evening. THIS evening belonged to Mr. Adam Lambert, The King of the modern Glam Gods. It was on THIS night that the planets aligned, and then fate stepped in and we were forever changed as Adam Lambert fans. I, personally, will never be the same.
I was transformed back to a year ago when the butterflies took over my stomach from excitement and nerves. I found myself holding my breath as he started, and then just as quickly, that beautiful voice began to do it’s job and I was left mesmerized. Every ounce of that performance was breathtaking. From the sound of his voice, to the lasers shooting around the fog, to his gorgeous stage presentation, he left nothing to the imagination. He laid everything out there for all the world to take in.
I must say that the words to that song could not have been a better fit for him at this point in his career. Not only to have the opportunity to return to the place where this all literally began but also to be able to say to all of the people watching, “Whataya Want From Me?”, was perfect. This performance will be the one time that I think those lyrics will hit home the most. I know I melt every time I see that smile when he sings, “thanks for loving me…”. I cannot imagine not loving him. The people that watch this show though, season to season, are a huge part of the people that make up the lovers/haters of Adam. I, as well as Adam, know you either “get him” or you don’t. I like to choose to focus on the lovers of Adam, but I do know that there are haters out there waiting to watch him fail. Unfortunately for them, it did NOT happen tonight!! I also would like to think that his performance tonight just might convert some of those haters to the lovers side. Regardless, I can only hope that every single person was as visually, vocally, and emotionally satisfied as I was.
That, our dear American Idols, is how you OWN a performance. All I can say, is that I am SO PROUD to be an ADAM LAMBERT FAN.
The following are some tweets that were flying around beforehand, showing everyone’s excitement leading up to Adams singing of Whataya Want From Me. Make sure you check out that performance on the video I gave you…then make sure and tell me whatcha thought!!

May I just say how PROUD I am of OUR American Idol, Adam Lambert? Last night went way beyond what I had imagined him doing on that show. As they were showing the clip leading in, did anyone else tear up when you heard the first notes of his song???
First of all, he was visually stunning, as always. The hair is one of my favorite styles on him, although if I had to name one I didn’t like I probably couldn’t. Was it just me, or did they give him a whole lotta face time?
Secondly, he was truly humbled by being chosen for this role which just shows how un-diva-ish he really is. He understood that although he is just starting out, he was THE go-to guy after being in that spot just a year ago. As WE all know, he was the one doing that EXACT same thing with the people he was competing against last year. It was only fitting that they allowed him to do it out in front of the cameras, for all to see his genuine, creative, and beautiful side. Not that he even owns an ugly side.
Lastly, watching the few Idols that actually listened to his advice was awesome, especially Tim. I think that there were only a few that decided to listen to him, and Tim was the one that nailed it. Tim isn’t the greatest of singers to start with, but look what happens when you take someone with God-given talent and know-how, and combine him with a young and eager listener that is willing to learn… I thought it was great to see. I know Adam enjoyed Big Mike, and Lee was fantastic too, I thought. Watching Katie with him… how cute was that? She came out and sassed up the place!
Plus, the best part? TONIGHT!!! I am very thankful for TWO days in a row of Mr. Adam Lambert. I am off to get some stuff done so that I can clear my schedule for it…

I AM SOOO EXCITED FOR TONIGHTS AMERICAN IDOL!! I cannot even believe that just a year ago we were watching Adam perform, and now he is MENTORING!!
Well, I CAN believe that they chose Adam because he just has that special way about him that feels the need to help others. Most people do not realize how much of this he did LAST year while he was on the show! Who does that? Who else would try to help and make the people they are competing against better?? Not many, that would be my guess.
I am counting down the minutes until tonight, and I added a few tweets from the current American Idols after they hung out with Adam in Las Vegas…
~Tim Urban: It was so cool meeting Adam lambert! He’s such a great guy! He was a really cool mentor for this week!
~Casey James: It was great meeting Adam Lambert! He is really nice. It was awesome to talk with someone that has been in this situation. He had great advise as well! Thanks again Adam!
~Katie Stevens: Ford shoot today!! Yayyyy I’m so excited for this week! Adam was incredible! I love you all!!
LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN…..

I just found this Canadian article about Adam mentoring this week on American Idol. I love the references by American Idol Musical Director Michael Orland. Because we know that Michael loved Adam! Read on, and keep your fingers crossed that Adam will get lots of screen time this week as mentor. I can hardly wait to hear the judges comments on air about Adam’s tutelage! It’s HUGE that Adam is the first previous Idol contestant to serve as mentor. But we knew if anyone would do it, it would be Adam!

Idol welcomes back Adam Lambert
By Alex Strachan, Canwest News Service April 11, 2010
Adam Lambert may strike some Idolators as an offbeat choice to mentor an occasionally - and some might say increasingly - out-of-tune and off-key final nine contestants on American Idol this week.
No one, though, short of Kris Allen, has more recent experience of - and appreciation for - what it really takes to make it to the end of TV’s most-watched, if not always talked-about, talent competitions.
(Idol’s back-to-back performances on March 30-31 - the most recent week for which accurate figures are available - scored 2.35 million and 2.25 million viewers respectively - behind only CSI and Survivor - as Canada’s most-watched programs on TV that week.)
Less than a year after he came within a glory note of standing at the centre of Idol’s winners’ circle, Glambert is a bona fide star.
More importantly from Idol’s longevity point-of-view, he could not be more different - as a recording artist, as a musical stylist and as a theatrical performer - than any of Idol’s previous stars, from Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson and Jordin Sparks to Fantasia Barrino, Ruben Studdard, Chris Daughtry, David Cook and Clay Aiken.
In a revealing interview last month with USA Today, Idol music director Michael Orland - the one person who knows the contestants’ strengths and weaknesses better than anyone - recalled that Lambert had a finely honed professionalism from the day he auditioned for Idol, and even supervised his own staging and lighting set-ups for his weekly Idol performances.
The implication is that Lambert won’t just be an effective, one-week-only mentor: He may provide the remaining singers with the most valuable advice and inspiration they will hear in the six weeks between now and this season’s star-is-born moment in late May.
This is a key week for American Idol because, thanks to last week’s use of the judges’ save - which can only be used once in any given season - not one but two singers will be sent home this week.
That means that, barring sudden catastrophe or another ludicrous judging decision by Idol’s text-messaging ‘tweener voters, this year’s field will finally be narrowed to a handful of genuine contenders, including Crystal Bowersox (my personal favourite, and Simon Cowell’s “Chosen One”), Michael Lynche and Siobhan Magnus, the dark horse who’s growing by leaps and bounds and who I predict will be the eventual winner.
Of the performers who remain, Magnus - the wild card with a knack for unpredictability and an affinity for busting the rules wide open - has the most to gain from Lambert’s counsel. And she’s smart enough, and weird enough, to get exactly what Lambert is getting at.
Magnus would be wise to listen. According to Orland, who’s in a position to know, Lambert “was great, great, great” every week during his stay on Idol. Lambert has a reputation for taking risks, and flaunting his worth, and no one takes risks in this year’s Idol field like Magnus, the Cape Cod, Mass., teen whose musical influences are Janis Joplin, Billie Holiday and, get this, Courtney Love.
“And not even just her voice,” Magnus posted on her blog on Idol’s official website, “but her in-your-face/I-don’t-care-what-you-think-of-me-because-I’m-me presence.”
In a (mostly) laudatory review of Lambert’s back-to-back performances in Vancouver this past weekend, veteran music journalist Tom Harrison - The Vancouver Province newspaper’s seasoned music commentator, with decades of experience to call on - wrote that Lambert has the wherewithal to last longer than Idol finalists’ usual “best before” date, “and will be around for a while.”
This could be the week that, under Lambert’s tutelage, Magnus breaks out into the spotlight and, to paraphrase Simon Cowell from a couple of weeks ago, her life changes forever.
Adam Lambert and Siobhan Magnus, getting their inner freak on. Could this be the beginnings of a show-stopping duet on the Grammys in, say, 2012?

Today, he left Canada, only to land in Las Vegas to begin his mentoring for American Idol’s top 9.

Ahh, remember the good old days, when we had true quality contestants on American Idol??
Must be “election season.” Tee hee! Now you can cast your vote for your Favorite American Idol Contestant of All Time. Is there any question???? This started in January, but it’s still current.

So talk show and comedian Ellen DeGeneres is going to steal the fourth judge’s seat on ‘American Idol.’ They couldn’t find a respected singer, musician or someone in the music industry?
I mean, don’t get me wrong, I like Ellen a lot (except her little dance moves) especially after standing up for Adam Lambert (Ring of Fire). I am sure she will be very entertaining. I just wonder if she can be a good judge.
What do you think?
LOS ANGELES — Ellen DeGeneres is dancing her way into the fourth judge’s seat on “American Idol.”
Fox announced Wednesday the talk show host and comedian, who admittedly has no formal music experience, just a passion for tunes, will join Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi for the ninth season. The announcement all but seals the departure of Paula Abdul, the original third judge who announced she was quitting amid a contract dispute in July.
Wednesday’s announcement came as a shock to many of the singing competition’s fans, who did not expect the Emmy-winning talk show host to fill Abdul’s spot. DeGeneres told her talk show audience in an episode scheduled to air Thursday that she had been “dying to tell everyone” and would not abandon her chatfest. Instead, she will have “a day job and a night job.”
“The times we’re living in,” she quipped, “we’re all doing that.”
Abdul had been replaced by a succession of guest judges across the country as “Idol” started next season’s auditions, which will air in January. Among them: Victoria Beckham, Mary J. Blige, Joe Jonas, Neil Patrick Harris, Katy Perry and Shania Twain – but not the 51-year-old DeGeneres, who will join the ninth season following the show’s tryout rounds.
“Hopefully, I’m the people’s point of view because I’m just like you,” DeGeneres said on her talk show. “I sit at home and I watch it, and I don’t have that technical … I’m not looking at it in a critical way from the producer’s mind. I’m looking at it as a person who is going to buy the music and is going to relate to that person.”
It won’t be DeGeneres’ first time in a reality TV judge’s seat – or on “Idol.” She served as a guest judge earlier this summer on “So You Think You Can Dance,” critiquing the dancing competition’s top eight finalists. In 2007, she was the co-host of “Idol Gives Back,” the singing contest’s charity event. She returned the next year in a pre-taped segment.
DeGeneres’ has enjoyed a successful reign as the host of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” for the past six years, although her four-year streak as the talk show host Daytime Emmy winner ended this year when Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Sherri Shepherd and Barbara Walters from ABC’s “The View” were awarded the prize for the first time.

Here are the last two dance remixes. Okay - bad play on words. Sue me!!
I think we were all blown away on Disco Night. I’m sure most of us thought Adam was going to choose a fast-paced disco song and totally rock out. But he pulled his strategy move on us once again and gave us a tenderized version of “If I Can’t Have You.” Even Simon said he’d never heard it done like that before. Here is an enhanced drum version to pick up your day.
I’m finishing off the Dance Remix Series with denim27’s hot version of “Cryin’.” As we look forward to the release of Adam’s single in October and his album in November, we have a combination of all the Tour Videos and these Dance Remixes to keep us company. I think we’ve finally accepted that as much as Adam gives us of himself on stage, we still can’t have him!
Since this will be the last Dance Remix, I thought I’d give the links to all the remixes, for anyone who missed them earlier. My thanks to denim27 for a beautiful job on these. And thank you to our readers who have responed so enthusiastically and encouraged me to keep posting them! Rock on!!

It’s time for Part Three of this four-part interview. Here, Adam talks about his time in “Wicked,” being in a long-distance romance, and his audition for American Idol.
~Carol~

So you left “Wicked” to become a rock star?I came back [to Los Angeles] and took some promo shots and started rehearsing. We had a handful of songs. I don’t know if any of them were great, but it was a start. At the time, we believed in them. We did a couple gigs here and there. The band was called the Citizen Vein. We performed at the Knitting Factory one night, the Cat Club on Sunset, and a club in Hermosa Beach. We did three gigs and that was it and we recorded a couple things, like rough recordings, and I don’t know, it didn’t quite click. We kept writing and doing things, but then I got into my first relationship and I fell in love and I was going out a lot. I was dressing up, just living my life and having a great time. Falling in love was major. It changed everything, because up until then, I was 25 and I hadn’t been in love. I felt like there was a part of me that was like, “I don’t understand something about life, like a big thing.” I listened to these songs on the radio or CDs or I’d see these musicals about people being in love with each other and what that feels like and what heartbreak feels like and the joy of what love is and I had sex but I’d never been in love and just didn’t get it. It was really interesting because during and after that relationship, everything changes. It’s like, “Oh, that’s what they were talking about.” I thought that was so corny before and now I am crying because I totally identify with what that feels like. So that was a big turning point for personal growth.
I went to Burning Man… which was another big eye opener. People living in this utopian society and how beautiful that idea is — and after Burning Man, I looked for social outlets here in L.A. that were part of that underground scene, not the typical bar scene but more of a neo-hippie movement.

Adam is on the left and Cheeks is in the middle
You know, these underground clubs downtown. That was a really fun community to become a part of. Then I did a production of “Debbie Does Dallas” in Lake Tahoe. It was a topless revue at Harveys Casino. I was desperate. I could not find a job. It was going to pay me. They were going to put me up. It was with Anita Mann, the woman who did the cruise ship. I went up there and I was missing the person I was with and I was miserable because I was in a long-distance relationship and the show, when it was pitched to me, sounded like it was going to be a different situation and it tuned out to be not the most professional situation in the world. There was hardly an audience. They wanted to see boobs. They didn’t want to hear me sing, so they would talk. It was not a good gig.
I heard they were rehiring for the Los Angeles company of “Wicked,” and it had been about a year since I had been out of the touring company. They were going to form a new company and I thought, “I don’t know why I left. That was so stupid. I need to get that job.” And so I begged. They said, “Why did you leave? We don’t know if you’re just going to leave again. It’s a liability for us.” I told them, “No, no, no. I was stupid. I was lonely on tour. I wasn’t satisfied and had outside opportunities. I really want to be in a sit-down company and then I can work on all my outside stuff and still work on the show,” and they said fine. So I came back and I opened the L.A. company of “Wicked.”
As Fiyero again?
The understudy, yes. Exactly the same thing.
For the same actor?
This was a different guy. He was out a little more often, so I got to go on more, during the almost two years we were open here.
So you stayed for the entire Los Angeles run?
I stayed. I lived right down the street from the theater, and I really enjoyed being a part of it. It was a great job, and it was nice to have money again in the city and live my life. There was a producer I started working with. He was forming his own publishing company for placement in film and TV and advertising campaigns, so they hired me to be a songwriter. And so I would go down there a couple days a week during the day and lay stuff down and write and really started to build a nice collection of music and I felt like it was at a much better level. I’d learned more about writing, about pop hooks, how it all works. Through trial and error, we got some good stuff. I was doing some session work here and there, so I was really starting to move toward, “I really think I should go for this now.” I felt more confident and I started getting frustrated with “Wicked.” I felt they weren’t promoting me and it wasn’t satisfying. I started performing at clubs, just to get my name out there. I was going to release music. I really got into the idea of becoming a solo act. I think a couple years before, the idea of that really scared me because I was concerned about, “How are people going to think of me?” and “I’m never going to have a private life if I do that.”
I didn’t think I was ready for that. I didn’t think I could handle it and then I really got into the idea of it. I had turned 26 and felt, “I’m getting old and I still haven’t been to New York yet.” I knew there was work for me in the theater and I could move to New York and probably work there, but I’m particular and I never really considered myself the best actor in the world. I wanted to be myself, so I was less and less enchanted with the idea of musical theater. There weren’t a lot of shows that were interesting to me musically or conceptually. I wanted to do my own thing. So I started experimenting, doing club acts and the pop/dance thing.
I sang and I had two dancers and we were wearing really wild clothes and then I was doing stuff with Upright Cabaret. It was like the New York tradition of having all the show actors and people in town come together and sing, like Joe’s Pub [in New York]. I met a lot of great people through that and got a lot of attention.

Where did you think this was all leading?
I put my faith in the producer that I was working with, Monte Pittman, that when all this music was finished, he was going to do all the work to get it out there, and he did do a lot of work. But he had just come from New Zealand. He was really established there, but he was new here, like an outside player. So I didn’t know how quickly that was going to happen, and I wondered, “What are my other options?” And last year when “Idol” was on, we were all watching it at “Wicked” and everybody would discuss their opinions of who did better and why, and then somebody said, “Adam, you should audition for that,” and I thought, “Yeah, maybe I should.”
This happened during Season 7?
Yes, but I watched a lot of the seasons. Not all of them, but a lot of them.
When did you first watch the show?
I watched the first season. I remember Kelly [Clarkson] was on and she was great. I was really excited, but I didn’t think they were going to like me. I thought I was too out there.
You are a little out there!
I am a little out there, but I’m kind of a strategist in that I knew what I could get away with and what I probably couldn’t get away with, so I tried to dumb myself down for the first couple auditions. You know, look a little more normal, dress a little bit more low key.
Where did you audition?
In San Francisco. I drove up with two of my best friends. The next morning I had gotten an hour’s sleep because I was really anxious, and right as I auditioned, I reached this epiphany where I thought, “You’re about to be 27. What do you have to show for yourself? You’ve done a couple shows. You’re working. You know you can pay your bills but do you want to do something great? Do you want to do something major and launch yourself? Yeah, I do,” and I knew that “Idol” was going to be, if I could get it, such a platform. I’d seen people that had been on “Idol” and were eliminated playing leads on Broadway, and I knew that’s the way New York is now. If you’re on TV and you’re a celebrity, you can get a lead in a Broadway show. I thought that’s what I should do because they don’t seem to want to promote me at “Wicked.” The worst-case scenario is that it would enhance my career in the theater and the best-case scenario is that I could do really well — and I didn’t know what it was going to be.

You knew the odds were against you, but that was OK, right?
Yes. I walked into the first audition with the judges, and Simon and Kara said, “You’re theatrical.” I had a feeling it was going to go down like this. They’re going to be, “Oh, he’s too Broadway,” even though I don’t feel like I actually am when I sing. I’m theatrical, but I don’t think that it’s necessarily musical theater.
What did you sing at your first audition?
I sang “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley and then “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and they said, “Don’t sing ‘Crazy’ at the next audition because they can’t get the rights to it and everybody tries to sing it.” I sang [“Rock With You” by] Michael Jackson and they wanted to hear another one so I sang “Bohemian Rhapsody” and that’s the one they ended up showing on TV.
Were you a Queen fan?
I’m a huge Queen fan. Freddie’s the man. He’s the voice. Just the musicianship required to sing that kind of music is really high. It’s very melodic and rangy and dramatic and I appreciate all that.
Could you ever have imagined while auditioning with “Bohemian Rhapsody” that a few months later you’d be on stage singing lead vocals with Queen?

Weird. It’s weird full circle stuff all around. It’s thrilling, but it almost loses its impact in a funny way, like, “Oh, of course I’m onstage with Queen.” What the hell’s going on? “Of course, KISS.” I can’t believe it. This can sound very pretentious if taken the wrong way but I almost feel like I’ve been preparing for this my whole life. I do feel this is what I’m supposed to be doing and I have a fatalistic view on life that things happen for a reason. I feel like everything that’s led up to this point has prepared me for this. It’s the whole “Slumdog Millionaire” thing, where it’s like his whole life like leads up to that moment and the only way he gets through that moment is because of all of his experiences. I went to see “Slumdog” as this was all happening and I was just in tears because I was so touched by the concept of that movie. And I wouldn’t have done what I did on the show had it not been for what I’ve gone through and my experiences in my life and what age I’m at. I wouldn’t have been that confident. I would have been second guessing myself. I would have been really busy people-pleasing as opposed to just doing what I do. It was meant to be now.

Last year was a great summer tour with Adam. Yeah… it’s been a year already! Many oif your enjoyed front seats. So be sure to get your 2010 American Idol live tickets early to see this year Season 9 American Idols. Who is your favorite this year? Comment below.
Many of us have been anxious to hear the complete first audition where Adam was reported to have sung Michael Jackson’s ‘Rock With You.’ Well… finally, here it is with uncut parts.
Part 1
I was shocked to see the part when he is like “Is there something I can get a shot working at… I know I could do it.” That finally explains why Kara reacted that way about Simon’s comment. On the edited audition it almost seems like she over-reacted from Simon saying he was theatrical but again.. this explains it.
I also LOVED the way he sang Rock With You.
Part 2
Co-written by Carol and Fernando (dreamsound)
What do you think of this version of his audition compared to the one broadcasted? Comment below!
I’ve been hearing how Kris is leading Adam in the iTunes singles sales for No Boundaries. And I’m sure you have too. Well, wouldn’t that sort of figure? After all, Kris did get declared the winner of American Idol (okay, he won -there, I’ve said it), and that song might lean closer to Kris’ personal style. So I thought I’d check the current iTunes charts out myself. I found some very pleasing stats that I’m happy to pass along.
Under Top 100 Albums, Adam leads the way with the #6 album, Season 8 Favorites. The next Idol to appear doesn’t happen until #20, where we see Kris Allen with his Season 8 Favorites. iTunes has a Season’s Pass for the winner, where people can purchase this, and they will be notified when anything new comes out from Kris, and it includes the No Boundaries download. The sales of this doesn’t show up until #39.
Now on the Top 100 Music
- Videos
charts, guess who is holding #1? Okay, stop guessing - it’s ADAM!! No surprise here. After all, he’s so visual. Or should I say theatrical? Yes Simon, the whole country wants to see him “mooing!” The medley with KISS is firmly at #1! This column is very lengthy and is filled with lots of appearances from both (more one than the other!) so I’ll just list all the results. (Why haven’t they gotten clearance for the Queen number?)
#1 - Adam - KISS medley
#2 - Kris and Keith Urban duet, Kiss A Girl
#7 - Adam - Mad World (finale version)
#9 - Kris - Heartless
#10 - Adam - Change is Gonna Come
#14 - Adam - Tracks of My Tears
#15 - Adam and Allison duet, Slow Ride
#16 - Adam - Satisfaction
#17 - Adam - No Boundaries
#19 - Adam - Whole Lotta Love
#20 - Adam - One
#26 - Adam - Black or White
#28 - Adam - Ring of Fire
#29 - Danny Gokey and Lionel Ritchie Medley
#30 - Adam - Mad World (version 1)
#31 - Adam - Cryin’
#33 - Adam - Feeling Good
#35 - Adam - If I Can’t Have You
#37 - Adam - Play That Funky Music
#38 - Kris - No Boundaries (finally!!)
#42 - Kris - Ain’t No Sunshine (not sure which version)
#44 - Adam - Born To Be Wild
#55 - Kris - What’s Going On?
#73 - Group Song - So What?
#80 - Kris - Apologize
#87 - Kris - Ain’t No Sunshine (not sure which version)
#91 - Kris and Danny Medley - Renegade
I think it’s interesting to note the longevity factor in Adam’s performances. Satisfaction was way back in the beginning, and so was Black or White and the superb world-turning Ring of Fire. I think Adam’s fans have spoken loud and clear.

How did Kris Allen win ‘Idol’? 38 million votes from Arkansas helped
Full disclosure: I’m an Adam Lambert fan. A frustrated Adam Lambert fan at present, but a fan.
I’m also a Kris Allen fan.
I only waited until the end to vote for Adam because I was sure he could get to the end without me.
At any rate, Ryan Seacrest said just under 100 million votes had come in Tuesday night for the season eight “American Idol” finale.
He didn’t mention the difference between Kris and Adam.
Last season, there were 12 million votes between David Cook and David Archuleta.
I wrote about that in my “Poor Kris Allen! Wrong guy wins ‘American Idol’” lament, adding, “I’m curious about how many people really hated Adam Lambert that much.”
An Arkansas native named — appropriately enough — Dave, read my lament and offered some perspective.
“I’m originally from Arkansas, and let me tell you, they have very little coming out of the state that they can all get behind. As a result, the University of Arkansas Razorbacks athletic teams are all but a religion there–especially when they are performing well.
“During American Idol elimination episodes, my facebook feed was flooded with Kris Allen comments from friends back home. If you watched the show, you saw a crowd show up to see Kris in my (and his) hometown of Conway, AR that is pretty much the entire population of the town.
“One of my facebook friends posted a comment after Allen won saying that AT&T had disclosed that 38,000,000 votes came out of Arkansas last night.
“Seriously, it isn’t a hatred of Lambert that drove this, it’s the facts that a) everybody like an underdog, b) church-going types moved from Gokey to Allen, and c) Arkansans enthusiastically support their own. It was just a perfect storm in Allen’s favor.”
He added a nice P.S.: “An avant-garde type like Lambert needed to lose, so he could have the creative freedom he needs.”
Very true, Dave.
I don’t blame Arkansas. They were backing their boy and I give them props for that.
The 38 million number from AT&T is interesting.
He’s not the only one quoting it — it originally came from Fox16.com, an Arkansas news station, and was picked up by the Idol blog mjsbigblog.
**Update**
Now Fox16 is reporting that AT&T is denying the 38 million votes.
To quote Fox16’s updated report as of Thursday, May 21: AT&T says, “We can’t confirm how many votes were cast in Arkansas, and we can’t comment on the number of votes for any contestant.”
Well. Wonder where they got it to begin with.
Actually, here’s more on that. From the same Fox 16 link, just added later:
“CORRECTION: Based on incorrect information provided to one of our reporters, FOX16 News reported Wednesday night, an extraordinary number of votes came in from Arkansas to American Idol. AT&T spokesman Ted Wagnon told us today, ‘AT&T does not divulge or confirm how many votes were cast in any state.’ We apologize for the error.”
I bet it was still around 38 million and someone is playing CYA.
I don’t have AT&T but I always hear Ryan saying AT&T users can text their votes, so I would think that makes things faster than trying to dial 100 times and getting through once.
Of course it doesn’t mean all of the Arkansas AT&T votes (however many there were) were for Kris, but chances are most were.
Dial Idol — where they keep “Measuring the busy signal” — has a funky map that supposedly breaks down by state who called for Kris and who called for Adam.
According to that info, New Hampshire – my state – had 600-odd busy signals on each of Adam Lambert’s three lines, getting through on each line a little over 300 times. For Kris Allen, people hit busy signals in the 400-range on each line and got through in the 200-range.
According to the same map, Arkansas got busy signals in the 6,000 range on each of Kris Allen’s three lines, getting through in the 3,000 range on each line. (Only about 600 votes total seemed to go to Adam from the three lines.)
Over on KrisAllenNation.com, there was a page leading people step by step to “power text” for Kris.
To quote part of the site: “Kris Allen fans can triple (at least) the number of votes by power texting. (I usually get 3000 to 5000 votes out in two hours.”
****Update****
It’s now Friday, May 22 and I just got this e-mail:
“I am a student at the University of Central Arkansas in the heart of Conway, AR…Kris Allen’s hometown. There was a newspaper article that was produced today by our local newspaper basically about how people could vote so many times for Kris Allen. I’m posting the link for the Conway, Arkansas newspaper as well as an email that was sent out through the UCA listserve that basically explains step by step how these Kris Allen fans or fanatics, if you will, were able to vote so many times. I thought I couldn’t do anything about it even though I thought it was a disservice and unfair. I’m glad that I am finally able to expose the people and their obsession with being “put on the map.”
Here’s the link she’s talking about: http://www.thecabin.net/stories/052209/loc_0522090002.shtml
And here’s the e-mail she received from the University of Central Arkansas, repeating the KrisAllenNation stuff about power texting:

Subject: FW: American Idol Power Texting trick for Kris
I know some of you supporting Kris Allen, a great Conway guy, on American Idol. If you’re not “into” this contest, you can delete now!
This following message was posted by Kris’s facebook account. It takes a little effort before the voting night, but it looks like it may pay off!
Here goes:
Kris Allen fans can triple (at least) the number of votes by power texting. (I usually get 3000 to 5000 votes out in two hours.) Adam and Danny fans have been doing this for weeks.
Essentially, power texting sends ten votes at a time instead of just one.
Prerequisites:
• Must have a cell phone on AT&T. If you don’t have one, you can pick up a Go Phone for about $30 at Target, WalMart, or Best Buy.
• Must have unlimited text plan.
Power Texting (note: these instruction may differ based upon which kind of phone you have!)
1. You are going to create ten contacts in your cell phone (Kris1, Kris2, Kris3, etc.).
2. Create a contact group (also known as a distribution list) and name it something like “Kris For The Win” and add your contacts (Kris1, Kris2, etc.) to the group. If you don’t know how to do that, check the manual for your phone or go to the AT&T Support Site
3. Add the voting number for Kris (570x) to each of the contacts. At this point Kris has two numbers, so you can alternate - five contacts get the first number, five contacts get the second number. Do this during the show before the voting starts.
4. At the end of the show, send the message “vote” to your “Kris for the Win” contact group. This sends the message to the ten contacts at once. It will take a couple of seconds more than sending a single contact.
5. Now, resend or forward the same message to your contract group over and over for the next two hours.
Super Power Texting
Get a second Go Phone and have ATT give it a number on the opposite side of the country from you. This will let you vote for two hours in Eastern Standard time and then for two hours in Pacific Time.

I’m sure Adam Lambert fans were doing the same thing. Just not enough of us, I guess.
According to our friends at Wikipedia, the 2008 population estimate for Arkansas is 2,855,390, making it 32nd out of 50.
So, as Randy Jackson might put it, those dawgs worked it out Tuesday night.
California, for shame! Where were you for Adam Lambert? For me, for you? Not cool.
Ryan Seacrest interviews the Top 10 on Larry King Live. They look back on their journey on American Idol and Ryan ask questions like: ‘Not to cross any lines but… was there any in-mansion romance?’
Another interesting line at the beginning was Danny Gokey saying that the judges complimenting Adam so much actually hurt him because people wanted to the other contestant a chance.
Allison is awesome, she makes me laugh everytime

Random thought, Adam at 2:34 looked like a vampire :p. But you don’t wanna continue my rambling so be sure to share your thoughts about this interview on the comments below.
Another American Idol Finale Shocker: Not the Lowest Rated!
Kevin Winter/American Idol 2009/Getty Images for FOX
It was a squeaker, but American Idol did it: It avoided posting its least-watched finale of the modern Idol era.
Instead, the show tied its least-watched finale of the modern Idol era. Which, in 2009, is still a feat.
An estimated 28.84 million, on average, tuned in last night’s Kris Allen coronation, per preliminary Nielsen data.
Final numbers weren’t expected to give Idol much of a boost since Nielsen has already factored in time zone differences and the show’s seven-minute overrun into the 10 p.m. hour.
If the estimate holds, last night’s Idol will be tied with 2004’s Fantasia finale for next-to-last place in the annals of Idol finales.
Some more finale factoids:
• Compared to last year’s David Cook party, last night’s Allen celebration was attended by about 3 million—or 9 percent—fewer people.
• Compared to TV’s other top shows, Idol held up slightly better than average. Consider: Last May’s top finales were posted by Idol, Dancing With the Stars, CSI, Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, NCIS, House and CSI: Miami. This May, those shows finales’ were down, on average, 11 percent. Only one finale, in fact—DWTS’ results show—wasn’t down, and it wasn’t even up. (It matched last year’s number.)
• Among that finale bunch, last night’s Idol tied for fourth with Grey’s Anatomy, in terms of holding onto—or losing less of—last year’s audience. The DWTS results show, NCIS (down 2 percent), and DWTS’ decisive dance-off (down 3 percent) led the way. At the other end, House was down 23 percent.
• While Idol’s numbers conceivably could be crunched any old way, the Oscars would like to remind it still has scoreboard. The 36.3 million it commanded in February remains the season’s biggest prime-time audience for a single entertainment show.
• Idol, meanwhile, would like to remind its finale still has scoreboard over the Grammys as TV’s biggest music-industry platform. But the gap did shrink considerably. Last year Idol outdistanced the Grammys by 14.5 million viewers. This season it beat the awards show by “only” 9.8 million.
• Idol’s 2003 Ruben Studdard finale remains the franchise’s biggest, with 38 million viewers. The runners-up: 2006’s Taylor Hicks night (36.4 million), 2008’s David Cook upset (31.7 million), 2007’s Jordin Sparks win (30.7 million), 2005’s Carrie Underwood moment (30.3 million), 2004’s Fantasia and last night’s Kris Allen crownings, and at the end of the line, 2002’s Kelly Clarkson moment (22.8 million), which, unlike its descendants, aired (a) during the summer, and (b) before American Idol became American Idol.
Adam talks about positive thinking, his strategy on the competition and making it to the finale. Great interview:
Everything Kris Allen said was exactly what I was saying when that big FOX 5 News camera was taking ADAM-LAMBERT.ORG fans reactions at that moment: Are you serious, are you phreaking serious??
There is no doubt anywhere that he provided the best show and had the best vocals. KISS doesn’t show up for Idol — they showed up for Adam. Queen showed up for Adam. Most of the stars (and they were huge stars) came because of the level of talent that Adam has and what he brought to that show all season. Adam’s head is and will be held high. Even Kris doesn’t believe Kris ‘deserved’ the win. Be sure to don’t get this wrong, the unfairness wasn’t Kris’ fault:
Behind the scenes:

Kris pointing at Adam saying something like ‘It should have been you!’
Deja vu from Season 2 - by LindaK (Fan Group Leader)
Adam is the most talented, deserving contestant ever to grace the Idol stage. As I said in an earlier article, win or lose, Adam still IS the Idol and no one can convince me and his legions of fans otherwise. I know this feeling all too well; it happened in season 2 when the more talented contestant came in second place. I am not taking anything away from Kris; he is talented in his own right; but Adam is just special in so many ways and brought so much to the show that it almost seems unfair that he didn’t get the title. Maybe Idol didn’t know how to market him, or maybe the conservatives banded together to prevent a gay winner. Whatever the reason, Adam is the runner up. What a shame for the show and for not rewarding creative differences.
It is a given that he will have a long, lucrative, productive career and entertain us for many years to come. He goes down in history as the most competent runner up ever. Adam is in a league of his own, way above and beyond any others. It just seems unreal that this uniqueness and talent were not granted the ultimate reward.
And so we move on. To us, his fans, Adam is our idol and we believe in his talent wholeheartedly. We are excited to help him promote his career and achieve the iconic status that is in his future. This is only the beginning for him. He is now a household name, was the most talked about contestant ever, and we can now look forward to moving on and watching him achieve international stardom. You know he will. America got it wrong, but at this point it doesn’t really matter.
Let’s support Adam, and help him become the icon and worldwide superstar that the judges predicted he would be. And won’t it be fun going along with him on this journey. The best is yet to come!
It’s ok to be in grief and cry because we all know this was clearly rigged, not by the producers but by the voters themselves with 36 million votes coming from Arkansas and sites like Vote for The Worst.
The producers are not happy ‘at all’ given that Adam is so commercial, so don’t blame it on the show.
However, me must move on guys. Here is were true fans stand out.
Comment below, let it all out…

Queen, Adam, and Kris
The Kris and Adam duet was highly anticipated. “We Are The Champions’ is a great song, figuratively, and musically, for them. Why did Queen agree to be on American Idol? Two word answer: Adam Lambert! The songs words are meaningful, as both Kris and Adam are champions in very different ways. Kris is because he got the ‘title’, for whatever reason, but Adam is the ultimate champion because his megatalent will propel him to the iconic status predicted by Paula. In my opinion, this performance is on par or even better than the Allison and Adam duet. Maybe it’s just that whoever you put Adam with, ends up shining. What does that say about Adam’s professionalism? His fans applaud him for stepping back and letting Kris have some of the spollight. Kris did better than ever and I know it’s because of being with Adam. Adam motivates, encourages, and enhances his partner. He is the ultimate professionaI and I adore him even more for not stealing the show, but for making it a cooperative team effort. I absolutely, positively, totally loved ,loved, loved this. Great choice of song, of guest artist, and of utilizing Adam’s talents to the max..
Adam is the champion and he already won this talent contest… just not the voting contest my friends:

Kiss
The real american idol, Adam Lambert, performing along with Kiss. Also showing off Adam’s journey on American Idol. Classic, iconic, rock performance.
Could there be a more perfect partner(s) for Adam? They should sign him right now! Didn’t love the outfit, but it fit in and was total Adam. You cannot convince me that Kiss was enticed to ;a show like American Idol, for any reason other than being able to sing with Adam. Adam must have been in heaven. This is him at his best, doing what he was born to do. I’ve watched this quite a few times already and shall watch it many more. We have our Rock God, our True Idol right here, and need look no further. Kiss knows it too. Just look at them and how happy they are to be singing with someone of Adam’s caliber. I’m so glad Adam had this amazing opportunity. He didn’t get the ‘title’, but the rock icons know who the true star of the season was. This was just the beginning of the music legends clamoring for Adam’s attention. If this was how it went on a tv show; can you imagine what is still to come?
Love them shoes though…

ADAM-LAMBERT.ORG will be hosting the post-official Adam Lambert watch party at Seau’s of San Diego on Wednesday May 20th tentatively starting at 7pm PST.
*** Since it is not an option to get the live stream from the east coast, we will be watching the results during regular west coast time from 8pm to 10pm Pacific Standard Time. For that reason, if you know the results beforehand please DO NOT spoil it for anyone attending this party. ***
The address is: 1640 Camino Del Rio North #1376, San Diego CA 92108
Below Lila, our event planner, talks with FOX 5 News about this party
This is a local San Diego restaurant and the founder (Junior Seau of NFL fame) is big on promoting local talent. Seau’s have ample space to hold plenty of people. They are easy to get to, have plenty of easy parking, have outstanding video and audio capabilities (must be over 100 TV’s there as well as a 11×13 screen) and have a warm family atmosphere which fits the Idol fan base. Every single TV will be playing American Idol.
FOX 5 News contacted us last week regarding the watch party and we might get media coverage. MTV may also cover the party.
Official watch parties, by the way, are parties covered by the media showing the contestant’s fans watching the results while getting their reactions on camera.
EVERYONE WEARS EYELINER AND PAINT THEIR NAILS BLACK
(I’m a straight male and I’m even doing it! )
If you are interested in attending, PLEASE RSVP on the comments below. If you have a media request or can help us spread the word e-mail Lila at: lilahayes@hotmail.com

It was SO GREAT! Really a surreal night. I went up with Nancy and Damian. He’s bringing his giant 20′ sign that he got Adam to sign last week. They’re really looking forward to the party. I called Tommy (94.1) about 8:30 AM, just before they talked on-air to Carly Smithson about the Copley party tonight and her Idol experience last night. She raved on-air about how superior Adam is! I talked to her last night about her coming over to our party tonight after she’s done at the Copley. Don’t know if she will (probably not!) but she kept saying we should come earlier to the Copley. (Nah, don’t think so!) But, I talked to Tommy this morning about plugging our party on air with Jeff and Jer, and he said he couldn’t promise, but if I did get on-air, to not talk about it like it was a fund-raiser (WHAT?????) but to just be talking excitedly. I’ve written it up so I’m prepared with what to say. Basically a ditto of what Walter said.
***Tommy just called - really apologetic - couldn’t get it on the air, but asked for all the details and will have other DJs plug it today.
I NEVER thought I’d EVER be there, especially for the finale show!!!! We got in line at about 9 AM, just hoping to get tickets to the rehearsal, and ended up immediately getting tickets to the performance finale show!! A girl in line had 2 tickets for friends that couldn’t make it. You’re emailed that morning, have to respond within an hour, and then be able to go at last-minute’s notice! After waiting in line until about 11:30 we finally got our hard tickets. We could leave then, just had to be back to make the 4:30 PM door closing getting into the Nokia. So we spent the rest of the time at the Nokia/LA Live Center. I’m not really sure what the true name is - “Something” Live Center.”
The Nokia Theatre, Staples Center and LA Convention Center all triangle each other on 3 corners. The ESPN News Sports Restaurant is across the courtyard from the Nokia, and they had all the TV Guide Channel and Idol booths in between. We ate at the ESPN in their patio seating, looking right at the courtyard booths. I saw Nigel Lythgoe just walking in to the center next to the patio seating talking to some fans, signing some autographs, etc. I went up to him for an autograph, but he didn’t have any more time - had to get somewhere. One of the canopied booths was for the past Idol stars to sign autographs/pix pose at. They had a computer (AT&T sponsor) to register your name and number on to win a million dollars in that booth. They had long tables lining the back wall, and a bunch of the past Idol stars were sitting at them. The first star (Bo Bice when I was there) had a stack of slick cardboard stationery sheets and they all had Sharpies. I got a lot autographs and spoke to all them - basic fan adoration chit chat. I said how great I thought it was for them to give their time for this (I know, basic suck-up but I wanted them to feel good!). I did ask some of them who they liked, and did they vote, and Carly Smithson was such a strong Adam lover and voter! Everyone said they were for Adam! I managed to time it perfectly, when it was close to shutting it down, so there weren’t many people begging for their time. There were still a lot of people lined up to get in, but they weren’t being let in, so I had extended time. I saw/got autographs from: Bo Bice (I told him I loved seeing him at the SD County Fair and he said he loved San Diego, and loves some restaurant that I didn’t recognize! Also, Blake Lewis, Chiquese, Carly Smithson, Parris Bennett, Kimberly Locke, Syesha Mercado, Lakeisha ???, Vonzell Solomon(?), Hayley Spenato (?) and Melinda Doolittle. On the autograph sheets, you can’t tell which some of the signatures are. It would probably be a fun drinking game!
Now I know what those TV Guide Channel 99 Idol shows are like to be at. Justin Guarini looked handsome and Kimberly Caldwell was really pretty. They were doing different interviews with past IDOL contestants. We could stand right along the partition, 2 feet away from where they were talking. Because we were told in advance we couldn’t bring camera in to the performance, I didn’t even bring mine. I had no idea what to expect. I got Justin Guarini’s autograph at this location, after leaving the autograph booth. I did get cell phone camera pictures of most of the stars.
In the Nokia Theater, the rows were A-Z then started on AA, BB, CC, etc. We were in KK, about 5 rows from the back. and on the extreme left side, looking at the stage. But it was still close enough. Both Nancy and I had binoculars, so no problems.
I loved, loved, loved Mad World! His voice sounded so pure in the theater. We thought he was GREAT! He looked so great in the long coat. But for some stupid reason, Simon was hearing something different and chose not to compliment/rave about his PURE voice last night, which is what the contest is about, and instead flipped out about the coat and fog. Simon - you’re so inappropriate! Adam’s eyes glistened on the good and bad comments from the judges. You could clearly see this on the big screen. He was really emotionally effected. Adam’s voice sounded so pure and ethereal. Kris’ Ain’t No Sunshine was really good but not so much better to “win the first round!” It’s hard to compare Adam to Kris because they’re such different artists. Like apples and oranges.
We all heard it. Adam wasn’t as strong as his usual self on Kara’s song - the song stunk for both of them, but they really should have been harsher on Kris. He is not professionally able to carry off entertaining an audience by himself on more than 1 song. He’s boring! And his voice could not hold up for 3 songs. Instead, they acknowledged the poor performance by saying “judge the whole season.” Well how about Adam - he RULED the whole season. No one could touch his voice quality. At least Simon did say they “had found a WORLD star.”
FINAL STEP OF OPERATION AND JUSTICE FOR ALL:

3. If you are using a cell phone, try using your earpiece to dial and redial. That will keep your hands free to vote with other devices. Most earpieces if you hit the button twice, it will redial for you.
4. You have 7 straight hours to vote. REMEMBER: HAVE FOOD READY, EVERY MINUTE COUNTS.
1.Download program.
2.It downloads a zip file, unzip and double click “Setup Launcher Setup.exe” It will install the program in seconds.
3.Open “Ghost Mouse 2.0″
4.Open voting software. Press record, dial the number and wait 10 seconds, hang up. Press play. This will allow an infinate loop. Do not press stop.

FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO VOTE IN BOTH TIME ZONES: you need to go gizmo’s actual website and sign into your account from there. Then there’s an option on that page to add “caller ID.” You follow the instructions from there and it cost $4. This takes awhile to process so do it IMMEDIATELY PLEASE. Once this is processed, it will allow you to change your area code to whichever time zone you want to vote. Change area code as many times you want for the $4 dollars. DO IT NOW, IT TAKES A WHILE TO PROCESS! THIS WILL ALLOW YOU TO VOTE IN MULTIPLE TIME ZONES, JUST CHANGE YOUR AREA CODE (CALLER ID) TO THE APPROPRIATE VOTING TIME ZONE. Once you finish voting east coast, log onto gizmo’s actual website and under your account section there should be a place to change your caller ID. You can change it to whatever west coast number you want. Same if you want to vote east coast but you’re in west coast. Choose the appropriate number for the zone. It could be any number within the east coast zone but has to be an actual number. PLEASE USE ALL VOTING METHODS AND NOT JUST GIZMO, LANDLINES, CELL PHONES, TEXT IF YOU HAVE AT&T, ETC. DO NOT RELY ON ONE METHOD ALONE.
THANKS FOR SHARING BLUEBERRY.
The MOST important thing is to NOT STOP VOTING.
Power Texting
To dial, just type in the number in the space provided (right next to the small phone icon). Be sure to dial “00” and then Adam’s number which will be:
- Make sure you have exited out of the small window that pops out when you call. Wait a few seconds.
- If the button is still gray, try deleting a single digit in the number and re-entering it.
- If that doesn’t work, go to FILE and then EXIT and restart Gizmo. (Do not exit by clicking on the “x” button on the top right hand corner of the window as that simply minimizes Gizmo rather than exiting out of Gizmo)
Gizmo is completely frozen? Is this normal? What do I do?
You can expect Gizmo to freeze up several times on voting nights - it’s normal and probably due to the high call volume to the AI lines. Usually if you wait a few seconds it’ll start working again. If not, try step 3 from the previous question.
I’ve heard a DJ say that using Gizmo is cheating, is it?
No. The American Idol official statement is that VOIP programs may be used for voting.
None of these FAQ’s have helped me so far. What gives?
Try the Gizmo support page here: http://support.gizmo5.com/
I hate Gizmo with a passion! What do I do??
Try downloading vbuzzer here: http://www.vbuzzer.com/ . Some find this program to be more cooperative than gizmo. Ideally you want to have both.
Some people have reported better success by putting no dashes between the numbers. Some have also reported more success by switching lines every so often (i.e. from 01, to 03, to 05).
Yes, you can vote if you subscribe to some digital or internet-based phone systems, such as Vonage or Skype [Gizmo is one, too]. However, note that digital phone and VOIP services **often re-route outgoing calls to a different geographical location from which the call is being made.** As a result, you may only be able to vote in the voting window to which your call has been re-routed. If you are trying to vote in the regular voting window for your region and your call is re-routed outside of your region by your service provider, you will not be able to vote (instead, you will hear a fast busy signal). **However, you still have the availability to vote during the other voting window.** For further information, contact your digital phone or VOIP service provider.”
The “legality” of using Gizmo and voting outside your own time zone, Gizmo is a VoIP service, which is totally valid for AI. Don’t scare people into not using it b/c they think the votes don’t count or it’s unethical or something. It’s totally legit - even for use outside your area’s voting window!

‘American Idol’ Finale: It’s Adam Lambert Vs. Kris Allen
Danny Gokey says goodbye to the ‘Idol’ stage as judge Simon Cowell congratulates him on a ‘brilliant’ performance.
It’s the screamer versus the quiet soul man. The flashy, trashy L.A. rocker against the mellow, humble small-town crooner. Call it what you like, but next week’s “American Idol” finale could be one of the most exciting in the show’s history. A “ding-dong,” if you will, to quote judge Simon Cowell.
Following a titanic 88 million votes — and with just 1 million separating the top two finalists — Danny Gokey became the odd man out on Wednesday night when he was eliminated from the show’s first-ever all-male top three.
With just minutes left in the hour, host Ryan Seacrest finally broke the tension by first announcing that Kris Allen would be in the finale, bringing a look of sheer surprise to the 23-year-old singer’s face and a standing ovation from the judging panel, including Cowell, who, up until Tuesday night, repeatedly told Allen that he would never make it to the final.
And then it was Adam Lambert’s turn, as the bombastic singer who has blazed a nearly flawless path through the finals buried his hands in his face and gave his bros a hug in celebration of making it to the finish line.
It was an excruciating wait for the trio, who spent nearly every minute of the hour wondering their fate. Early in the show, Gokey — the only contestant this season to never be in the bottom three — relived the up-and-down night he had on Tuesday, when the judges split on his scatting and dancing during his Paula Abdul-chosen take on Terence Trent D’Arby’s “Dance Little Sister,” but were unanimous in their praise for his sentimental take on Joe Cocker’s “You Are So Beautiful.” This being the penultimate “Idol” show, the Milwaukee native was waved over to the couches to make way for Allen’s flashback.
Fans predicted that Allen, who got mixed reviews for his too-close cover of OneRepublic’s “Apologize” and raves for a daring acoustic take on Kanye West’s “Heartless,” would go home on Wednesday night. But after he shocked the room with the stripped-down ‘Ye cover, even Cowell had to admit Allen deserved a shot next week. While Allen also didn’t get the good news right away, he did reveal that no matter what happened, he was already a winner, as his favorite Conway, Arkansas, restaurant, Stoby’s, offered him free cheese dip for life.
Questions arose this week over whether Cowell lobbied too hard for Adam Lambert at the end of Tuesday night’s show, when he warned fans to “take nothing for granted,” which some saw as a sign that he was advocating they vote for Lambert.
Regardless, the Los Angeles musical-theater veteran once again got almost all thumbs up for both his sensuous take on U2’s “One,” and a cat-scratch run through Aerosmith’s “Cryin’.” He was the last finalist to not get the news right away after, like the others, he watched a montage wrapping up his trip home last week, in which he met his hometown San Diego fans.
Once the verdict finally came down, Gokey, whose tragic tale of losing his young wife, Sophia, had become one of this season’s early emotional story lines, kept his composure. Looking cool and relaxed with his hand on his chin, Gokey watched his goodbye video, smiling and reprising his poignant take on “You Are So Beautiful,” bringing tears to Abdul and Kara DioGaurdi’s eyes as he milked the ballad for all its heartstring-pulling emotion. The three singers then shared a group hug center stage as, once again, the show ran over by several minutes, perhaps robbing some viewers of the final words of wisdom from Cowell.
Setting up next week’s showdown, he said, “None of us would have predicted this, guys … no disrespect because you were brilliant last night and just now … by the way, Danny, congratulations. But Kris, your second song ["Heartless"] in particular made you a contender. You’re in with a real shot. Adam, you know we’ve always liked you. This could be what we call a big ding-dong coming up next week.”
The show also featured Katy Perry performing her latest single, “Waking Up In Vegas,” as well as season-six winner Jordin Sparks debuting the strident R&B rocker “Battlefield,” the first single from her as-yet-untitled upcoming second album, with the song’s producer/co-writer, OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, joining her on piano.
As always, Perry brought a big show, taking the stage in a sexy Elvis Presley-style leotard/jumpsuit with Adam Lambert’s name in rhinestones on the back and toting a bedazzled microphone with glittering cherries on it. Surrounded by Vegas showgirls in towering red headdresses waving giant white feathered fans, Perry ended the energetic performance by strutting in her glittery mini-cowboy boots as a rain of confetti covered the stage.
And so, next week Lambert and Allen will face off one more time for this year’s “Idol” crown. At press time, it was not yet announced what the theme would be for the final showdown, or who the guests are on the Wednesday night finale.

A Change Is Gonna ComeOh wow, a Taylor song. Adam breaks out the suit for this one and looks oh so very handsome. What a great song choice! Adam totally kicked ass, those long notes were adamazing, and he did what he needed to do. He showcased all his strengths, went from that incredible low to that unreal high, and was awesome on everything in between.
Thank you Simon Fuller! You picked the right song for Adam and we needed to hear him do this original interpretation. I think what Paula said was right on. Even if Adam happens to ‘lose’ this competition, he will be an icon in the music industry and that is really what’s important.
Randy: That song is an amazing R & B classic, and you showed that the real reason you are here is that you can sing your face off. That was unbelievable.
Kara: That may have been your best performance and interpretation of a song. The combination of the high notes and how you showed the emotion of the song is your winning combination.
Paula: That was the best I’ve ever heard you sing ever, ever, ever. Unbelievable. You look like a superstar up there and whatever happens with this Idol journey, I know with every fiber of my being that you are going to be iconic.
Simon: You are 100% back in the game. Congratulations.
