The following interview is from Derrik J. Lang AP Entertainment Writer WEST West Hollywood, CA. May 14, 2012 (AP) Be sure and click the link at the end for its completion.
Adam Lambert isn’t coming off “American Idol” or a racy American Music Awards performance, nor is he declaring his sexuality in Rolling Stone or posing with a nude model in Details magazine.
The 30-year-old glam rocker doesn’t mind the lack of a media thunderstorm ahead of Tuesday’s launch of his sophomore album: He relishes the element of surprise.
Lambert is hoping to achieve it with Trespassing, on which he teamed up with the likes of Bruno Mars, Pharrell Williams and Dr. Luke. It’s the follow-up to “For Your Entertainment,” which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard charts in 2009, the same year he finished as the runner-up in the “Idol” contest.
“I had time to make this album,” said Lambert, who co-wrote many of the songs on “Trespassing” and served as its executive producer. “I do feel that sonically, lyrically and emotionally, this album is a surprise for people — and myself.”
Trespassing is evenly divided between club-ready rhythmic pop tracks and a collection of moody melodic showcases for the vocal acrobatics that made Lambert a front-runner on the eighth season of “Idol.” During a recent interview with The Associated Press, Lambert recollected on his life after reality TV.
AP: What’s it been like for you over the past year after the “Idol” maelstrom died down?
Lambert: In that time, I fell in love (with Finnish Big Brother winner Sauli Koskinen), which is great. I have an amazing relationship. I also got to spend a lot more time with my friends and family. Over the past year, besides taking time to write and record the album, I’ve had a lot of downtime, which has been really nice to live a real life again — or what seems like one — and I think that really informed my writing process and experience making the album. I was writing from a place with a little more perspective.
AP: How did that affect your creative process?
Lambert: Coming back to real life was a bit of shock. You kind of have to decompress, and I had some failed romantic situations, and I was a bit tired and worn out, so at the beginning of the writing process, there was some darkness I was working through, which was great. It was real. It was visceral. Then, I got in my relationship, I started relaxing and having more time to myself with my friends and wanting to go out again — shopping, rediscovering culture and life.
AP: What’s dating been like for you now that you’re in the public eye?
Lambert: Dating while famous is a different animal. It’s a different set of challenges. It’s a new reality. It makes you potentially more desirable to this, that and the other person, but you also have to deal with, “Does this person have ulterior motives? What is the real reason for the attraction?” There’s all sorts of other layers, and for someone like me who thinks far too much and is neurotic, that can get a little maddening after a while.

Adam Lambert just finished speaking with Billboard.com LIVE for a 43 minute chat. He opened up as usual, kept it real, and was altogether fabulous! They discussed what was the cheesiest and most recent album purchased on his iPod, how he thought when he finished Idol that he was now in “the club,” and three things he’d grab in a fire. Listen to his comical impression of what he thought Sauli would say if he threw him over his shoulder if that occurred! It’s adorable! I’m sorry I didn’t catch the interviewer’s name.
Here’s some other highlights:
When asked about the video for Never Close Our Eyes, he said it “would be out in a few weeks” and made a great effort to withhold the details. He would say that it’s been shot and edited, and special effects were being added. At this point, he couldn’t help but tell us there will be “a little sci-fi added” and there’s a “cinematic film aspect.”
As for touring, he didn’t hesitate for a second, blurting out “I’ll definitely tour!” He’s already come up with a few tour concepts. I’m sure we’re in for another great visual and audio extravaganza! Speculation by others say it won’t be until next winter.
Adam had just appeared on Good Morning America a few hours earlier wearing a jacket that looks like the match to these pants! When the interviewer said he should grab the pants in a fire, Adam admitted that he wasn’t really into material posessions. Maybe he’d grab a leather jacket! Speaking of fashion, it was cute to see his iPod cover has the Trespassing graphics!
As soon as I find a working video, you’ll have it here. Keep checking back. I’ll add it to the title so you’ll know!

I couldn’t resist giving two great articles today, in honor of all the beautiful readers we have! Adam has given us a treat today also, via his tweet:
@adamlambert Happy Mothers Day!!
In addition to the gift of his music – coming out in 2 days!!! – I love one of the gems from this interview where he talks about what it takes to be a Glambert. From his answer, we officially know he gets us!
Here’s that beautiful section, followed by the article, from the beginning. Thank you to Mary @glitzylady for sending this to me. I love my friends from this amazing GlamJourney who are so generous in giving me great articles they find, so I can give it to you. That’s one of the most special things about this site, and I think, a reason why we’re receiving so many great acknowledgements from the industry!
From Chris Azzopardi, editor of Q Syndicate, the international LGBT wire service.
What does it take to be a Glambert?
Reckless abandon. (Laughs) I think that any sort of diehard fandom is a crazy, surreal mentality. That’s part of the fun for the Glamberts; they’ve given themselves permission within that community to be kind of insane. And it’s gorgeous and it’s fun and it’s an escape; it’s not real life, it’s something else. Everybody wants that in some form or another. We all have our different versions of it. For people who are diehard fans, that’s their way; that’s their obsession and that’s their outlet.
Adam, I have to disagree with you. It is real life!!

Now from the start!
Remember the fuss Adam Lambert caused when he tongued his keyboardist in front of the world? Of course you do. The controversial kiss drew both homophobic outbursts and so-what shrugs, and it’s an American Music Awards moment that won’t soon be forgotten. Especially by Lambert himself.
“That was an interesting night,” he says, snickering in his charmingly guy-next-door way about that seminal smooch. “That AMA performance was trespassing in a way.” And, on his latest album, he’s not done crossing the line: “Trespassing,” out May 15, is the defiant second to the “American Idol” spawn’s 2009 debut.
In this candid interview with Lambert, the pop star opened up about the “redundant” press questions regarding his sexuality, becoming more confident as an out celebrity, and breaking the rules - and going to jail for it.
What does the album title, “Trespassing,” mean to you?Being who I am in this music environment is trespassing and that’s why Pharrell (Williams) and I wrote it about that. We had a big conversation about the music industry and the business and being an artist, and then on top of it being somebody that’s different, being a gay man and being in an industry where it’s not very common, not very present. Kind of feeling like I’m gonna own this, march forward and ignore any kind of sign or person telling me no. I’m gonna do what I wanna do and not feel sorry for myself.
Is anything you do for shock value premeditated?
No, I don’t think, “OK, I want to piss people off now” or “I want to shock people.” I kind of, especially after the (American Music Awards), go with what I want to do musically. That’s been more in the forefront for me in my decision-making. I think just kind of being, and being unapologetic for being, is a risk in and of itself in today’s music industry.
Was the AMAs kiss good for you?
I don’t even know. I was in such autopilot. It was one of those weird moments that just kind of happened. Some of the choreography earlier in the number was planned but that whole moment with him was just, “Oh my god, now we’re kissing!”
You’ve spoken with gay publications and mainstream publications. How is it different talking to each?
I try not to make it any different. That’s been one of my big goals, especially with this album. This time around I’m trying to just adopt a post-gay mentality about it because I’m so proud of who I am and I’m 100 percent positive about it and I celebrate it, but I also think it’s a bit dated to harp on it and to lean on it and to constantly be defined by your sexuality. I think that gay men and women who live their lives as gay men and woman understand that and understand that it’s just another part of who they are. Unfortunately, with some mainstream publications, it’s such a novelty for them to be able to talk about it. It’s such a hot-button issue that it becomes the focus of a lot of discussion.
Does that bother you?
(Hesitates) It gets a bit redundant. (Laughs.) Gets a little old. It’s something I’ve made peace with; I’m trying to just look at it from the other point of view and realize that a lot of the questions are legitimate for someone who doesn’t understand. I think the way to progress and confront ignorance is information. You start talking about things and we get past them. So yeah, it gets a bit redundant, but I feel like at this point it just comes with the territory that I’m trespassing on.

Happy Mother’s Day! Here’s a wonderful present from Adam Unofficial and Billboard.com!
Adam Lambert Live Q&A: May 14 at 3pm ET
From Mitchell Peters and Billboard.com. Thank you to my dear friend Mary @glitzylady for finding this for me!
Dr. Luke. Bruno Mars. Pharrell Williams.
These are just a few of the hitmakers who appear in the production and songwriter credits of Adam Lambert’s sophomore album, “Trespassing.” But it’s not the impressive roster of collaborators that makes the boldest statement in the credits. It’s the forthcoming set’s executive producer: Lambert himself.
While it is rare for an artist to executive-produce his or her own release, Lambert, the flamboyant season eight “American Idol” runner-up, insisted on having full creative control of what he admits could be the decisive album of his career, his moment to prove himself as more than a TV-fueled seasonal sensation. “That’s why I’ve been so obsessed and neurotic about it and why I wanted to be the executive producer and co-write a lot of it,” he says of “Trespassing,” due May 15 on RCA Records/19 Recordings.
“This is a big make-or-break thing for me, especially for someone who comes off of ‘Idol,’” he says. “I did have a hit, which was great. That was one big step. Now what? Is that going to be it? Am I a one-hit wonder? So I wanted to get really involved in the process to make sure I was doing everything I could to create a great album.” He pauses. “And I think I did.”
It’s a drastic change from the approach taken with the singer’s 2009 debut, “For Your Entertainment,” which was hastily recorded during an “American Idol” summer tour in the months following his appearance on the TV show. Despite reaching No. 3 on the Billboard 200, selling 838,000 copies (according to Nielsen SoundScan) and nabbing a top 10 single on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Whataya Want From Me,” the release felt rushed and was mostly a “guessing game” in terms of choosing songs that would properly portray his musical style and connect with fans, Lambert says.
This time around, Lambert, who turned 30 earlier this year, doesn’t have to deal with the pressure of churning out an album quickly to capitalize on the promotional momentum of “Idol.” He’s spent more than a year writing new material and working closely with RCA senior VP of A&R Rani Hancock to bring on other collaborators, including Benny Blanco, Bonnie McKee, Nile Rodgers and Sam Sparro. The result is a 12-song set (the deluxe edition features three bonus tracks) of electro-dance-funk and dark emotional ballads that display a more contemporary pop sound and move away from the theatrical glam-rock and vocal showboating of Lambert’s full-length debut.
“He’s really made a record that’s different than what he made coming off of ‘Idol,’” says Dana Collins, one of six artist managers working with Lambert at Los Angeles-based Direct Management Group, which also helms the career of Katy Perry. “You get off that, you’re on the treadmill and you jump into the studio and get presented with four dozen songs. You choose the ones you like, record them and tour at the same time. Then you go out and promote that record.”
Lambert says the subject matter of “Trespassing” is much more personal than “For Your Entertainment.” “I wanted it to reflect my social scene, not just what I knew my fans were going through,” he says. “So I’m writing about my gay friends-you know, going out and getting laid. I’m in a relationship right now, so I’m exploring monogamy and a serious thing, which is really cool. But I was single before that and there’s a lot of joy in that, too. So there are songs about going out and getting freaky.”

Adam Lambert appeared on Chelsea Lately, hosted by comedienne(?) Chelsea Handler. I have to watch my words, because I really don’t care for her hosting personality. With some of her comments, she makes herself look incredibly stupid. Every talk show has a research staff, and to say Adam was in the closet until his interview with Rolling Stone is ignorant. She’s just trying to manipulate conversation, but Adam deals with it like a pro.
Here’s a video by NeonLimelight.com from the May 10, 2012 broadcast, where they discuss all the usual – the music, the songwriting, Queen, juicing, and being gay. When will that stop being a topic of conversation? The part that I had the most difficulty with was when she asked Adam if he writes songs about his boyfriend. Adam gives a great response, and her follow up comment is one of the most disgusting quips I’ve ever heard. Sorry for that, my friends. Please let me know if it struck a raw nerve in you too.
At least this is– as always, an opportunity to spend some time with the amazingly honest and bright Adam Lambert!

The media storm for Trespassing is beginning! Adam Lambert will appear tomorrow on E’s Chelsea Lately. We know Chelsea has a smart mind and tongue, so the entertainment level should be high. As soon as it’s available, we’ll post the video. Adam first appeared on her show almost 2 ½ years ago.
My guide has this episode appearing 3 times in Pacific Time; 11 PM on Thursday, May 10, and 12:30 AM and 2 AM on Friday, May 11. Check your cable listing for your times. (I’m having a bit of trouble getting this to appear correctly on our Countdown Timer.)
While we wait for tonight’s episode, here’s the one from Dec. 2009.

Here it is, one week following Adam Lambert’s concert on the Jimmy Kimmel Live series, and I’d like to share some extra moments with you that Lila and I stumbled upon. I’m still so happy from the performance I saw. Adam’s style is truly evolving right before our eyes, and this latest phase is such a statement of his own artistry.
After Adam’s 5-song concert, which concluded around 8:30 PM, Lila & I walked across the street to the famous Mel’s Diner to have dinner. We even joked about the band coming in for a meal, since they all live in the area. On our way back to the car, we noticed a group of people huddled in the alley next to the El Capitan Theatre, where the Jimmy Kimmel Show is filmed. We asked a man standing there what was going on and he said they were “waiting for Adam Lambert to come out. He just gave a concert on the Jimmy Kimmel Show and he went inside but hasn’t come out yet.” We told him and his wife that we were at the concert too, and you could see the relief on his face, that he didn’t have to explain his stalker-ish behavior. Having just waited outside two San Diego radio stations for the same thrill a few weeks earlier, Lila and I could totally relate! He was there with his wife, celebrating their anniversary. They spent the day flying in from Dallas just for the concert! Another lady standing with us was there from Denver. (Travel statements like this were echoed by many fans in line for the show that day. Another testament to Adam’s continuing popularity.)
A few minutes passed, and Lee and Scarlett Cherry came out, followed by new-Glamily member, singer Octavia Latrice (@SincerliOctavia). On their way passing us, I asked Octavia if I could take a picture and she very nicely agreed.

Octavia Latrice after Jimmy Kimmel Live
A few minutes later, Adam, Sauli, Eber, singer Keisha Reneé (@KeishaRenee), and (I think) Keyboardist/Musical Director Brian London came out. This video from WorldMonitor.TV shows their studio entrance earlier in the day and at :15, their exit from the studio, where we were standing.
Adam made a quick get-away in his fur-collared jacket, blowing a kiss and waving to the group. There were rumors flying around from all the fans “who know” that he was hosting a dinner with his father and Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor. Oh, to be at that table! On our way through the parking lot to our car, we noticed Octavia was still there, with 2 others. We stopped to chat, introducing ourselves as the nominees from the NNN Awards, and told her how much we had enjoyed their performance there. She told us that NNN Awards was their first time performing together and that they had so much fun. She told us she’s from Miami and that she came to sing with Adam through her professional relationship with Brian London. She has also sung with Natalie (Cole, I assume!) and Chaka Khan. I joked with her about Adam’s request for the fans to dress “more funky” and we wondered if funk was going to be the long, flowing gowns that she wore at the NNN Awards!

Lila, Octavia and Carol after Jimmy Kimmel Live
Lila and I have realized that opportunities like this will probably happen again, and that we need to be armed with interesting things to talk about! Any ideas?

Adam Lambert absolutely knocked it out of the park on Jimmy Kimmel last night. And it only took three years to happen!

Adam Lambert gave Lila and me (and the other 1,000 Glamberts who were packed tightly in front of the stage!) a true mini concert last night when he performed five songs from the upcoming Trespassing album, complete with full band and back-up singers on the Jimmy Kimmel LIVE Concert Series.
The joy on Adam’s face said it all. He is so thrilled to be sharing his musical viewpoint with his fans, letting us truly into his world. We could see the elation in his eyes and feel his excitement from the natural smiles that emoted from his face as he was back on stage, in front of his adoring fans!
I know it’s been a while since my first Glam Nation Tour in June 2010, but I honestly am still feeling the same excitement as that magical night in Milwaukee. I can’t wait for the Trespassing Tour!

P.S. Watch quickly! I don’t know how long the videos from the show will stay up!

I love when Adam puts his hand to his ear at 1:24, calling for the audience to sing on the "oh, oh, oh," you can really hear it and he gets such a kick from it! And the "take it off, and try me on" is what dreams are made of!

Trespassing
In case you missed it, last night Adam Lambert was featured on Jimmy Kimmel, but only one of the five songs he performed was shown on TV! The song featured on the show was Adam’s newest single Never Close Our Eyes, but the entire setlist is as follows:
NCOE http://youtu.be/OCDepYUQT_M
Trespassing http://youtu.be/wkA1Rd3bO8U
Naked Love http://youtu.be/-Bb1MaPC05o
Broken English http://youtu.be/nn0Xwi9LIYE
Cuckoo http://youtu.be/eYKviMZ8LZ4
(I still haven’t figured out how to embed video so I included the links above.)
Which song surprised me the most? Broken English. I didn’t expect to love it as much as I do. It’s simply amazing and I can’t wait to find a high quality video of it!
After the performance, Carol and I went across the street to eat at Mel’s Diner. About an hour later we came out to see a group of Glambert’s still standing around the stage door. Ends up he hadn’t left yet so we hung around for a few minutes to see him leave. What timing!!! Here’s the paps view of the scene. To be honest their long range camera caught more than I did and I was there. He was pretty far away.
We met some very nice people there at the end that we didn’t meet earlier in the day. A couple who had flown in that day from Dallas and one from Denver! If you know of or met someone who traveled from farther, let us know in the comments!
We also talked to one of his new backup singer’s Octavia. She was really, REALLY nice! I’m sure Carol will have a lot more to say about it (as well as a picture of the three of us that is probably still on her phone).
I can’t wait for our next Adam adventure!
Even though it has been denied that Adam Lambert will be appearing with Queen on this week’s American Idol, one reporter for the Boston.com will not let it go.
Taken from their pages:
It’s Queen week! Brian May and Roger Taylor (pictured, right, with May) will be in attendance, and while rumors of Adam Lambert’s no-brainer appearance have been dismissed by insiders, we fully expect him to descend from the rafters wearing something fabulous.
I know it seemed like a natural to have Adam sing with Queen, considering Queen has managed to turn the canceled Sonisphere show into 3 additional performances WITH Adam. We can only cross our fingers for this preview to the hottest show this summer!
Be sure and tune in Thursday night when Adam performs on ABC’s Live with Jimmy Kimmel. A few of us got lucky and got tickets to the show, so hopefully we’ll have some additional video for you!
Love ya!

***This is the continuation about attending the NewNowNext Awards. Get a cup of coffee or tea because this one is bound to go long! And please forgive me if it reads a little self-serving. Lila and I have never been in a situation like this before, it probably won’t happen again, and it was the time of our lives!
Lila, Fernando and I were absolutely thrilled to learn of our nomination for NewNowNext 2012 Superfan Site Award, on February 27, 2012. My girlfriend Ellen (from the Chicago gang) called me the morning nominations were announced to congratulate us and make sure we knew. Huh? What are you talking about? I didn’t know anything about it! I called Lila immediately and she didn’t quite believe it either. We found the tweet Ellen had learned this from and sure enough, there was our website on the nominee list. ?
Two huge questions came to mind. First, of all the celebrities, why did they pick an Adam Lambert fansite? And second, of all the Adam Lambert fansites (and there are a lot of great ones!) why ours? What was NewNowNext’s criterion for placing nominees on the list? Now mind you, I have no confirmation on any of the information I’m going to talk about. These are Lila’s and my opinions. The answer to the first question was pretty easy. They chose an Adam Lambert site because #1 – he’s a fabulous member of the community, and #2 – well, he’s going to be performing on the show that night. Remember last year, when Host James Van Der Beek’s website was nominated for the #ZOMG Internet Award? He ended up tying with Carrie Fisher. (Just what does it take for a vote to tie?) Back to my point – why us? Honestly, we have no idea. We didn’t submit for this, we didn’t know anything about – the only thing we can come up with is we have been reporting on Adam since February 2009. We were one of the very first, if not the first fansite devoted to Adam Lambert. We also feel since we have the benefit of living just south of Los Angeles, Lila and I are able to attend many of Adam’s events. I have chosen to write about these events in a more personal way, hoping readers feel like they were there.
So now we’ve accepted that we’re nominated and we’ve learned the voting procedure (Twitter, Facebook and online), and from another nominee’s fan site, we found out the voting deadline. (Where did they learn THAT from??) We were puzzled that we hadn’t been contacted by NNN to tell us of the nomination. Weren’t they going to notify us with the details about voting, and to attend the ceremony? I’m sure everyone thought Logo/NNN would contact us, right? Maybe even a letter on nice stationery? Think back to the Grammys 2 years ago. We all remember Adam saying he was woken by an early-morning call from his management telling him of his nomination. Well, we don’t have “management” so I guess Ellen’s phone call will substitute very nicely for this! It took almost a week before all of the sites had posted anything about their nomination. From the first day, we began writing, tweeting, and driving everybody crazy with requests to vote for us. Honestly, Lila and I didn’t think we stood a chance of winning because of the millions of Lady Gaga followers/fans/Little Monsters that would be out in force for her.
Since we still hadn’t heard from NNN/Logo, we needed to find out how we could attend. When it was announced that Adam was performing on the show, Lila and I both applied for audience tickets. Funny, for any other TV taping (Leno, The Talk, Tonight Show, etc.) we’ve never had to submit a picture and we thought this requirement was a bit peculiar, but we complied. We were confirmed immediately, telling us we were on the “wait list.” Well, now we were nominees, we’ve got to be given tickets, right? We’re not trying to sound too full of ourselves, but tickets, schmickets. How could we NOT be invited?
A week goes by, and we still no official word from NNN/Logo. We started contacting anyone we could think of who could be connected to the show - LOGO network, Avalon Theater, anyone. We found names on their websites and tried making contact through Linked In. This didn’t get us anywhere. We needed to get more resourceful. Through an article about the NNN Awards in the Wall Street Journal, I found names of network and production officials who were working on the Awards. Lila and I started contacting them via Linked In and telephone. One call I made to the east coast finally got us somewhere. An administrative worker said she’d give my contact information to the person in charge of tickets. We were so excited to finally get a break!
After a week with no word, I called back and reached the same person. She was surprised we hadn’t heard back yet. She gave me the person’s name and email address, telling me she’d make sure she got another message. Not having much in the way of patience at this point, I emailed the person and immediately heard back from her. I was thrilled to learn from her email signature that she was the President of Drive Entertainment, a group that was handling at least some aspects of the show. Luckily, tickets happened to fall into this category. After some back and forth emails, she finally felt I was authentic on the site, and we had a confirmation for two tickets. She told me they allot two tickets for each of the nominees. (I tried to get a third for Fernando, but was unable to score.) So if they had two tickets for each of the nominees, when were they planning on getting in touch with us, and how?! By leaving a comment on an article? We wondered if any of the other nominees would be there, and if they had been contacted? Some of the other sites didn’t have Contact Me info, and at least one wasn’t even in the United States, for that matter. If nominees had to come from Europe, they needed notice to make arrangements. We then started wondering if they would only invite the winner? With voting continuing through April 2 and the show being filmed April 5, that sure didn’t allow much time to make plans. Well, we couldn’t worry about that. All we knew was that we had succeeded and we were going to the show. This was a major accomplishment, in our eyes!
Stay tuned for more!
Love ya!

Adam is scheduled to perform a mini concert on Jimmy Kimmel Live, April 26 at his outdoor venue. Get your tickets here:
http://www.1iota.com/show/view/Jimmy_Kimmel_Live
Tickets are free, but you do have to register.
I’m not sure what the difference is between Kimmel’s indoor and outdoor concerts, but this seems to be one of the few that is taking place outside. Maybe it has a bigger capacity? If anyone knows, please enlighten us in the comments!
I did find this information from someone who had previously seen Silversun Pickups there. It is 5 years old so I hope it’s not outdated!
“There are outdoor mini-concerts and indoor mini-concerts. This show was an outdoor mini concert. Outdoor meaning that stage set-up is beyond the alley of the studio, beyond the rear parking lot, way in the back on the next street over. If you find yourself leaning on a fence and looking across Hawthorne street at the surrounding fence of Hollywood High, then you’re in the right spot. The entrance is back where the Hollywood façade of the studio does not reach. The massive columns and towering banners at the Jimmy Kimmel Live entrance on Hollywood Boulevard are for the in-studio audiences only.”
You can check out the Yelp page to see what other people had to say about the venue. One person commented that when they say Death Cab for Cutie they played FOUR SONGS. The reviewer was kinda pissed about it, but Carol and I have gone the same distance to see him only play ONE song at Leno so four would be a treat!
http://www.yelp.com/biz/jimmy-kimmel-live-hollywood
I’m writing this in two parts. This first is more of a quick report on the night, and the second part will be from Lila’s and my personal viewpoints and full of pictures!
Part One
The NewNowNext Awards 2012 was a star-studded occasion, complete with all the ingredients that make a heart go pitter-pat. It was held at the historic Avalon Theater in Hollywood, where The Beatles made their West Coast debut in 1964. Lila and I arrived just before 6 PM and the first well-known face I saw was Ross Mathews. From that moment on, I knew the night was going to be magical! The Red Carpet, scheduled from 5:30 PM to 6:45 PM was in full-swing, occupied at this time mostly with personalities from RuPaul’s Drag Race.
Lila and I were escorted into The Avalon from the back, fresh from the Red Carpet area, entering onto the main floor. I estimate there was seating for about 700 on the floor, with additional main floor raised seating, plus levels in the balcony. The main floor was set in rows, unlike last year’s tables. About 40% of the chairs had name signs on them, many of them celebrities’ names. Other signs were for industry-related people invited to this soirée. We were stunned to find we were seated in the 7th row, and my chair had my name on it!
We were treated to an open-bar in the back with hors d’oeuvres being circulated. Lila and I enjoyed this part very much, because we needed something to calm our nerves! Here we met several fabulous men from Time Warner and the Las Vegas “What Happens in Vegas” marketing campaign, who would become our companions later in the evening at the Afterparty. Over-head announcements started invited everyone to take their seats, since the show would begin in about 15 minutes and people slowly began to move to their seats. The seat kitty-corner to Lila’s had been labeled RuPaul, yet the occupant clearly wasn’t RuPaul! Next to her was Jiggly Caliente and Sharon Needles, both from Drag Race.
With about 10 minutes to go, we saw Adam and Sauli enter from the same back door area and take their seats in the first row. Celebrities were stopping and chatting with Adam, and I pulled Lila up with me to go talk to him. Even though I had just spoken with Adam last week at the San Diego morning radio station, mentioning that we were from the fansite nominated for the NNN award, it didn’t seem to register on his face that he knew what we were talking about. He just smiled and said, “oh, that’s great” and moved on to the next fan. (I know radio stations are hectic.) But now was the perfect time to introduce ourselves again. He was just finishing talking with someone, and I was about to step up, but Josh Hutcherson from The Hunger Games stepped in front of me. I waited, hearing “3 minutes to start time” and Josh left. I approached Adam, and said “Hi Adam, I just want to tell you how proud we are to be representing you with our fansite!” At first he just looked at me like another fan, and then the light went on in his eyes, and he gave me a big smile, saying thank you for all the work we do. I wanted Lila to have her time with him too, so I shifted to Sauli next to him and introduced myself and shook his hand. There was a Drag Queen next to Sauli that for some reason I didn’t recognize, who was listening to our conversation, so I figured she must be part of their group. I said “Hi, I’m sorry I don’t recognize you” and she replied “I’m Raja.” “Oh my gosh, I watched you all last season!” She smiled and shook my hand. It was time to go back to our seats, so as I passed in front of Adam again, he said “good luck, I’ll be crossing my fingers for you!” and he raised his hand to show me. I couldn’t keep myself from saying, “you know, this has been an incredible 15 minutes for me!” and he looked right at me with a big smile.
Lila and I melted all the way back to our seats! She told me about their conversation, and we were both sorry we didn’t have something recording it! She told him we were from the fansite, and he thanked her and told her he appreciates what the fansites do. Lila said “we do it for you. It’s all about you.” He replied with “no, it’s a symbiotic thing!” and he motioned his fingers back and forth between the two of them. Squee! Back at our chairs, I noticed that Jai Rodriguez had taken his seat behind me and I introduced myself. (Jai was my favorite cast member from Queer Eye For the Straight Guy.) See the second part for more on this.
Okay, sorry! I had to expand on that part!! Back to the straight report – no pun intended!
The show began and we were entertained by host Kelly Osborne and all the award presenters, as well as performances from Brink of Fame winner, Neon Hitch, Rye Rye, and Neon Trees, who gave an amazing performance of their new single “Everybody Talks.” I must add that Kelly Osborne did an outstanding job hosting the entire event. Her personality is so warm and infectious! They arrived at the part of the evening where they announced the award for Superfan Site, and Lila’s and my heart were beating out of our chests! Unfortunately, the fansite for Vampire Diaries took the award, and it was claimed by Kat Graham, who plays Bonnie Bennett on the show. No one from that fansite was able to attend and Bonnie said how much the show “really appreciates all the fans do for them” and we thought that was very nice.
Then it was time for the performance everyone was waiting for – Adam! He was closing the show, as only a top star does. Kelly gave him an amazing introduction (you can tell they’re good friends!) and Adam gave us his show-stopping new funk sound, with the first full-band performance of Trespassing that I’ve seen or heard. His energy was non-stop, his voice was full of fire and the show was electrified, ending in a shower of confetti! Adam had two female, gowned back-up singers on-stage with him. The entire theater was on their feet dancing and clapping to the syncopated beat, having the time of their life. Everyone knew they had just been entertained by a major star!
I was the only person on the floor filming Adam, and after 2,718 views in only about 3 hours the next morning, Viacom pulled the video. Adam has just tweeted what must be an approved version. You’ll see my turquoise arms holding the camera several times in this video! Lila’s in white, next to me. So ladies and gentlemen, get ready to get down and get funky!! You can watch the whole evening on LOGO, Monday, April 9th at 10 PM PT, repeating many times.

Hey everyone! I know you’re not used to hearing from me, but I thought I’d throw my two cents in today!
Carol and I had a blast at the NewNowNext awards and we really, REALLY appreciate all of the time spent voting for the Superfan Site category, but unfortunately the Vampire Diaries fansite beat us out. Bummer!
On the other hand, we are all in for a treat with the Trespassing performance. I will admit that I was a bit unsure about the song from what I’ve heard so far, but let me tell you from being there… it’s amazing. Carol did take a video and we immediately posted it on YouTube, but it was pulled down by the time we woke up the next morning. We’re trying to repost it here Oh yeah, you can see another recording here, but it’s just a consumer camera so it’s not as good! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xu33__10K7A. We’ll see how long it lasts.
Carol here: Adam just tweeted this video, so hopefully it’s approved and will stay! I believe all the attendees in the upper lever were told no cameras. But as nominees, we didn’t receive this notice, and there were no instructions about recording any of the show. I think I’m the only one on the floor who you can see holding a camera. It’s inherant in our blood, isn’t it?! So everytime you see a camera being held up by turquoise arms, that’s me and Lila is next to me, in white. You’ll see us in the very first 2 seconds of this clip.
It was an amazing experience and one that we will probably not soon forget (or be able to repeat) and we’re very thankful to Adam Lambert, the NNN nominating committee, our followers and our families who allow us to be crazy fangirls.
Carol and I are getting ready to leave for LA very soon, but we just heard about the live stream and wanted to give everyone the heads up so you can be sure to watch it! Here’s the link:
http://www.newnownext.com/newnownext-awards-red-carpet-livestream/04/2012/
Thanks again to everyone for voting!
No, this isn’t from me (don’t I wish it were!) but from Louis Vertel at AfterElton.com. Even though Lila & I will be there as nominees (we’re so excited, we just got our info about arrival for the Red Carpet, Seating and Afterparty!) we don’t think we have a glittery ghost’s chance about getting any time with Adam! He is the highest billed guest and major media will be swarming him.
However, Louis Vertel from AfterElton.com has posted this. He’s asking for the fans to submit questions to ask Adam! Watch the video in this link – and when you’re done smirking, do the facebook post or tweet him @louisvirtel. Cause he’s right – the fans probably have better questions than he does!
And just in case we do get a moment to talk to Adam, leave your question in the comment below also. Stranger things have happened!

Direct from Adam Lambert’s radio tour, Adam stops to chat and perform for a very lucky audience at Boston’s Mix 104.
Adam is a bit rambunctious in this 25 minute video. Maybe he was a little sleep deprived from the power outage the night before in the hotel? Throughout this session, he displays the great humor that runs throughout the Lambert family. Like when he comments about the originality of the questions! To counter that, this self-admitted controller turns the questions to the audience instead of the twitter feed.
We also get to enjoy two stripped performances of Better Than I Know Myself and I think the sexiest version of Fever that I’ve ever heard! I love the funk beat that Tommy rips on his acoustic guitar. Catch Adam’s ad lib to the lyrics, and look at the sparkle in his eyes.
Thank you to Gale Chester Whittington for the video. Be sure and read more about the appearance and see photos from the event by checking out Reneé Snyder’s article too!
And only 18 days left to vote for this site in the NNN Awards! http://logo.to/z4xtyG

Mix 104.1 Boston ADAM LAMBERT FULL Interview + Performances 3-14-12 from Gale Chester Whittington on Vimeo.
Here’s another part to the British Yahoo omg! interview with Rebecca Twomey. I guess he’s no longer pulling questions from the hat. I think this is the most laid-back wardrobe I’ve ever seen Adam wear!
I don’t take his comment personally about the people who spend their time sitting at their computer not having a lot going on, or living much of a life. He seems to direct that comment towards the people who are commenting negatively about videos.
Thank you JadellEJ for posting this video. I wish Adam would stop talking about Trespassing and just return home and concentrate on getting it out!

P. S. Have you been voting for the NewNowNext Awards? http://logo.to/yLd9jQ A vote for this fansite is a vote for Adam Lambert’s entire fanbase! Only 28 voting days left!
Adam Lambert sat down with omg.yahoo.com in England, and answered fans’ questions from Twitter. He had the honor of pulling these questions from a hat.
If you’re thinking you can just listen to this while you do work, you better think again! Aside from the obvious (why wouldn’t you want to look at Adam?!) you have to read the questions on the screen. They aren’t read aloud.
Enjoy a “normal” morning with Adam!

As we reported 2 days ago, your Adam Lambert fansite has been nominated for the NewNowNext Awards, in the Superfan Site category. Our jaws are still on the floor, thrilled that we’ve received such an honor! Voting opened Monday, but was offline all of yesterday. We wanted to let you know that voting is open again, and to ask you to please visit the site often, and vote for us! Clicke here or go to this link: http://www.newnownext.com/awards/2012/categories/superfan-site-award/
You know how when something is announced about Adam, the fans go crazy and Twitter gets flooded and goes down for a bit? I’d like to think that this is the answer for why the voting site was down yesterday! Am I just dreaming? I hope the Glambs and Glamberts have jumped on the cause and are making it their mission to show Adam some love!
This site has received a lot of publicity from this nomination, and is thrilled to find out we are being supported by the other Adam Lambert fansites! Because after all, by voting for this fansite, it’s another way to show support for Adam! I know many of us have experienced global warmth between ourselves when we’re united in line for Adam’s concerts and TV tapings. And this universal fansite support is another example of that positive vibe!
We are only competing with the other nominees in our category, which is a major task in itself! We feel our main competition will come from the Lady Gaga fansite. Lady Gaga has 19.7 million followers on her Twitter, where Adam has 1.3 million. We’ve got to get busy to pass those Little Monsters! Voting is really easy. There is no registration to do, and by the looks of it, you can vote as many times as you want. After you click the Vote button next to Adam’s picture, just hit the X, and vote again and again! Of course we hope you’ll hit the Share button also, and ask your Twitter and Facebook friends to help. We don’t know when voting closes, but the show will be filmed April 5th, so that’s only 36 days from now!
***We just learned that voting is open until April 2nd. So that gives us 33 days!!
Adam will be performing at the Awards Show and just think . . . how fantastic would it be if his fansite won while he was there?! So remember, vote often, spread the word, and let’s support Adam by showing him how many Superfans he has!!
Love ya!

Glambs, I am so excited! My girlfriend Ellen - @Vudubird just called and told me our site has been nominated in the Superfan Site Award category at the 2012 NewNowNext Awards!!
We are the ONLY Adam Lambert site nominated! Your support of us has been tremendous! The others are sites supporting Lady Gaga, Vampire Diaries, True Blood, RuPaul and Reality TV GIFS.
Please vote for us here We know how supportive the Little Monsters are for Lady Gaga, so we’ve got our work cut out for us! Please ask everyone you know to help. Put it on your facebook page, tweet it, anyway you can get the word out will be appreciated!
I hope we’ll get honored and be invited to attend! This will be amazing since Adam is performing at the awards this year.
Voting is open. The Awards will be telecast on April 9th on Logo TV.

Questions were submitted all week from around the world for Adam Lambert to answer on this Q & A session with SaturdayNightOnline with Romeo. It’s so pure - just Adam sitting in front of his computer answering the chosen questions while reading them from a list. Best part is there’s no interference or input from anyone else!
Check out his most embarrassing moment, some Idol talk, and my personal fav - watching him play with his hair!
Special thanks to jazzyjessy18 for posting this to YouTube. I know you’ll all enjoy this!

Have you been watching all the hosting and interview bits Adam Lambert has been doing lately on VH1, Fuse and Logo? Have you noticed that he’s worn the same zipper-adorned jacket, jewelry, pants and boots in everything? I think he changed his shirt to a striped one for one of the shows. All these Top 20, Sexy Beats and Ten on Top interviews must have been done on the same day! He’ll be back on Fuse with more Sexy Beats on Thursday, so let’s see what he wears.
Now, he’s done another piece with VH1, but this time we get the full run-down on his fabulous fashion. I love that he’s avant-garde yet still sensible, wearing the striking coat from the EMAs/Queen performance in his Better Than I Know Myself video too!
Feast on!

I don’t know if you’ve heard the news yet, but Adam the perfectionist is back at work on his album. He tweeted yesterday: Yes, the album release date has been pushed back. Working on some new songs, making the album even better! Thank you all for understanding”
You can see him saying it here during a Z100 New York interview from Clevver Music:
Adam Lambert Delays Album - Video by ClevverMusic
Now I just have a little bone to pick here – the part about the Bruno Mars collaboration. I remember hearing that it was a writing partnership, not a singing duet. Yet I’m now seeing confirmations that there is a SINGING duet! But then we’re still seeing erroneous reports that Adam is the new lead singer of Queen!
Okay Adam – we’re waiting until “Mapril” for the release. In other words, no certain date yet. I hope the M in Mapril refers to March and not May! Yes, I’m disappointed, but if you’re giving us more Dr. Luke music, maybe it will be worth the wait. After all, we’ve waited since November 2009 for this second album. What’s a month or two more?

Sit back and listen to a very charming and slightly revealing interview with Adam Lambert by Gale Chester of In:Demand Radio UK, first posted February 9, 2012.
Revealing because we get to hear about his musical recommendation for making love! We also hear about bathrooms in his house, the most famous number in his cell phone and his new car. Well it’s new for him, at least. Seems the Ford Mustang needed an upgrade!

What a night! Adam Lambert’s just released video for Better Than I Know Myself has caught me quite off guard! To be honest, from the Sneak Peek, I thought it was going to be reminiscent of WWFM. But wow was I wrong! The fight between Dark Adam and Light Adam is full of imagery, symbolism and metaphor. In fact so much that it could produce a term paper!
The internal mental fight that that Adam exhibits fills this video. It’s a real test to Adam’s acting ability. Is this is a look into what’s gone on with Adam this past year? At least internally? Not just any artist could pull this off. With nods to Twilight, who knows where this Dark Adam will go. But the redemption from Light Adam takes us back from the edge.
Introducing, the video for Adam Lambert’s Better Than I Know Myself!
Please let us know what you think!

Adam Lambert spent his birthday on the slopes with Austria’s Radio Q. He breaks new ground (again!) when he tries his hand (no pun intended) playing sheep bells. He also reveals that he used to snow ski when he was 13. As a former ski instructor, I would give anything to spend some time on the slopes with Adam! But I digress, sorry.
Adam’s feather-collared jacket is gorgeous! I can only imagine his glee when he’s getting to pick out clothes for new locations! They were popping champagne in honor of Adam’s birthday, and knew he was on a heath kick, so instead, told him he’d have a full body massage later at his hotel. Oh, be still my heart!
Thank you violetglitz for posting both of these videos.

Here’s a radio interview that Adam Lambert just did with Germany’s Radio 7. All I’ve found so far is Adam making a statement of where he is right now in his life and a playing of Better Than I Know Myself. And listening without a clue to what’s being asked in German is kind of fun!
I’ll post more when I find it!

Here’s a sneak peek at the video for Better Than I Know Myself, the first single from Adam Lambert’s upcoming second album. Does it remind you of anything?
Look for the full video on February 3, 2012, according to Adam. Today he tweeted:

Okay Glambs, the wait is almost over! I’ve just learned that Adam Lambert will be on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Ellen DeGeneres Show next week!
Adam is scheduled as the musical guest for The Tonight Show on Tuesday, January 17th, to debut his new single, Better Than I Know Myself. Hopefully Jay will have time to chat with his favorite vocalist! Will you be in Los Angeles next week? You can apply for tickets here. There’s no guarantee tickets will still be available when you read this, but the date on the calendar was active when I posted this!
Ellen DeGeneres is welcoming Adam back to her stage, airing Thursday, January 19th. Tickets for Ellen are much tougher to get! Currently, show dates are listed on her website through March 1, and there are no tickets available for any dates.
I’m so excited, just thinking about all that’s in store for the fans! The best news of all will be when he starts talking more about the tour to support Trespassing. Start saving your money, refresh your out-of-town contacts, and figure out your excuses for work folks. I can feel the storm’s about to start!!

After Adam Lambert’s jaw dropping performance singing with Queen on MTV’s EMAs, the Irish Times has declared everything we’ve known about Adam on this side of the Atlantic for almost 3 years. They even call him a “megastar in the making.” I beg to differ, but we Glambs and Glamberts already think he’s arrived!
Here’s the text from the article. My heart glows even more with each new paragraph. I’m so proud to be an Adam Lambert fan!

GLAMBERT RULES
Irish Times November 11, 2011 by John Kearns
If anyone was in any doubt that Adam Lambert was a superstar-in-waiting, his performance with Queen at the MTV EMA 2011 will dispel any question of whether or not this singer is the real deal. Lambert’s adoring fans have known for a couple of years that their hero has everything it takes to be a total musical icon. His introduction to the limelight was of course on American Idol and his amazing vocal range, total charisma and androgynous beauty made the United States sit up and take notice.
This artist is brimming with star quality and has all the credentials to be the biggest pop/rock phenomenon on the planet for the next five years. If the work ethic muscle continues to be flexed and lady luck smiles Adam could seriously be on the way to another stratosphere.
It’s like a powerful machine with all the necessary components firmly in position and the engine is ready to roar. The mechanical side of things is in perfect working order – great albums already recorded with another even better one ready to drop and that undeniably killer voice ready to be unleashed. The sleek chrome-plated design is also prepared and polished – Adam’s sartorial sparkle and image so elegantly complete the picture.
Some artists are all about the music and others have an image bigger than their actual talent, whereas this singer shines like a diamond in both departments. Gifted and glamorous in equal measure Lambert is set to blow through the industry like a stylish swaggering superstar storm and claim his place as the new king of the download charts.
Speaking of royalty, the manner in which he tackled those throat-bursting Queen anthems was an astounding spectacle to behold. There is no hiding place when it comes to taking on a Freddie Mercury vocal and the medley of musical monuments were expertly executed by Lambert with room to spare. May, Taylor (and Deacon) were genuinely thrilled to have him on board and I’m sure Freddie would most definitely have approved of the band’s choice for microphone duties on the night.
Credit where it is due – Adam Lambert is an awesome performer and a megastar in the making.
The fact is that he always has been; it’s just been kept a bit of a secret until now.
Here’s a sneak preview of Adam Lambert mentoring on Sunday’s Majors and Minors, on the HUB network. He surprises the kids as they are singing Whattaya Want From Me. Adam is so likable and relates to the kids so well. I’m sure he can see himself in their position. I hope he’s on for the whole hour!

Adam Lambert thrilled the world by singing with Queen on the American Idol Finale, and he’s done it again! Adam and Queen sang a medley of songs tonight for the European Music Awards shown locally on MTV3. Queen received the award for Global Icon and they closed the show with none other than Adam Lambert as their lead singer.
Bryan May really meant what he said a few years ago when he said he’d love to have Adam sing with them again! I just found the video, and want to post it ASAP for you all!!
Enjoy this Glambs and Glamberts!! We welcome ALL your comments!

The show as a whole beat out April’s debut as MTV’s biggest live stream ever, nearly doubling the previous numbers. Preliminary numbers for the Oct. 31 livestream indicate 1.4 million, but are subject to change. Fans cast more than 22.3 million votes for their favorite artists, leading Bjork, Adam Lambert, Tokio Hotel and Nirvana to take home a few of the night’s big prizes.

Adam Lambert and his mother Leila Lambert received awards yesterday in Beverly Hills, CA from the PFLAG organization. PFLAG stands for Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbian and Gay. Even though there were scary periods in his life when coming to terms with his homosexuality, Adam admits his experience was relatively easy. And he feels his liberal parents were a part of that ease.
When describing the actual time of disclosure, Adam and Leila joke that one of her first reactions was “great – more shopping!” I’d love to hear about some of those shopping trips. The following video is their acceptance speech, complete with a description of the awards received.

Adam Lambert will be appearing on The Hub’s Majors & Minors as a mentor to young singing talent. Adam’s childhood years in theater make him a natural to guide these youthful performers. It’s wonderful that another facet of the music industry has recognized Adam’s unique talents and abilities. Music World Domination is one step closer, Glambs!
How long will Adam appear on the show? Considering Adam’s busy upcoming schedule promoting the release of his second album, it’s unlikely that this will be a recurring role. Mentors will probably change each week. Along with Adam, other mentors are Jordin Sparks, Leona Lewis, Sean Kingston, Colbie Caillat, Avril Lavigne and Brandy. The following promo video gives me a feel like Majors & Minors will be similar The Glee Project. I love it that Adam is the first celebrity mentor shown!
Adam has already shown his mentoring skills during Season 9 of American Idol. He was the first Idol contestant to be asked to mentor a current cast of hopefuls. Adam tried his best to “wake up” those kids, but even Adam couldn’t do the impossible!
Let’s revisit Adam showing his mentoring prowess on American Idol!
Majors & Minors is debuting Friday, Sept 23; 8 PM Eastern/5 PM Pacific on The Hub. To locate your Hub channel, click here.

Video by Carol Hagey (for better quality, see Suz526 video, below)
Adam Lambert received the Equality Idol Award last night in a room full of Los Angeles leaders, members and supporters of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. The award was bestowed by Equality California, the largest statewide LGBT-rights advocacy organization working to achieve equality and civil rights for all of California’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender citizens. Adam received his award for “using his newfound fame to act as a fearless, outspoken advocate for LGBT kids and quickly won the hearts of youth desperate for positive role models. He shot a video message as part of the “It Gets Better” campaign to help LGBT youth overcome bullying and alienation. He also released a song, “Aftermath,” to benefit the Trevor Project, a national suicide-prevention hotline for LGBT youth,” as stated in the event program. Other honorees included Facebook, receiving the Equality Advocate Award and New York Assembly member Daniel J. O’Donnell, receiving the Equality Leadership Award. Mr O’Donnell is the attorney sponsor of the recently passed New York Marriage Equality Act and also the brother of Rosie O’Donnell. From last night’s program, “In 2007, O’Donnell introduced the Marriage Equality Act which would have guaranteed LGBT people in New York the right to marry. The bill passed the assembly and had the support of then-Governor Eliot Spitzer. But it was blocked by the Republican-controlled state senate. He tried again in 2009 and successfully passed the bill twice before seeing it shot down by the Republicans once again. May 10, 2011, Assemblyman O’Donnell introduced the Marriage Equality Act. Just a few weeks later, on June 24th, Governor Mario Cuomo signed the bill into law.”
Facebook received its award for their leading role in the LGBT community. They recorded the 2010 “It Gets Better” video project, which Adam Lambert had an appearance in. According to the program from last night’s awards, the video “featured Facebook employees telling their stories about being young and LGBT and offering support and encouragement to GLBT youth who are struggling. Following a number of LGBT suicides, Facebook further combatted anti-LGBT bullying by forming a “Network of Support,” which includes partnerships with a range of LGBT organizations.” They have also added “domestic partner” and “civil union” to their relationship status options.
Okay, now that we’re done with the formal reporting, let’s talk about how amazing the event was. First, I was lucky enough to attend this event with Glamworld-famous videographer, the incredible Suz526! She and I drove up from San Diego, having no expectations of what our evening would be like. We didn’t even know until a few days ago that Adam would actually be in attendance! Suz had one other friend at the event, Julie, better known to you all on Twitter as AZGlamFan who came with her husband from Arizona, as you probably guessed. Julie was lucky enough to catch Adam, Sauli and Leila on the Red Carpet. Me? I had a martini in my hand, checking out the Silent Auction items and was unfortunately oblivious to the Red Carpet. Rats. To be honest, I was so happy that Glamberts didn’t take over this affair, as they did the Grammy Rock Star Summit on Social Media. Not that I want to be selfish, but I didn’t want the other honorees to feel shadowed. Fortunately, this was not the case.
One of the sponsors was Blue Angel Vodka, so the most delicious martinis were circulating around the outer reception room, being offered by the most gracious wait staff. The Beverly Hilton certainly knows how to attend to their guests! Hors d’oeuvres were for the taking, but I didn’t want to crowd my hands. It was challenging enough trying to maintain amongst the largest gathering of the most sparkly, well dressed and groomed people I’d ever been in!
Guests were encouraged by the Host EQCA representatives to register and bid on the Silent Auction. I’ve never attended a silent auction and was quite impressed with the set-up. I don’t mean to insult the more sophisticated readers, but I’d like to share their great system. First, the registration desk slid our credit card and we were given a sheet of almost 40 barcode stickers, complete with our private number. Next, we visited tables full of wonderful trips, restaurant offerings, movie packages, art pieces, wine tasting trips, spa visits, gym memberships, and more. Many of these items were completely neutral, but several had content that reminded you what event you were attending. LOL! These were all donated items. Each item had a sheet with progressing dollar amounts listed. If you found something you wanted to bid on, you placed your barcoded sticker next to the dollar amount you wanted to bid. We were told we would receive notice later that night if we won. Unfortunately my bid for the 2 dozen gourmet cupcakes wasn’t high enough. I guess that’s good and bad.
Next we were ushered into the main banquet room for dinner and the evening’s awards. We enjoyed a delicious dinner while key representatives from the EQCA made speeches. (OMG the most fabulous filet I’ve ever eaten and something we named Risotto in Disguise. The trio of chocolate cheesecakes was heavenly too!) Suzanne and I shared our table and the rest of the evening with 3 of the most delightful gay couples, one of which was on their first date. It was so cute to watch them look and giggle with each other! I sat next to Jean-Guy, originally from Quebec and his partner, Joe. I found Joe’s story fascinating when he told me he had 3 teenage sons, and had been married for 17 years. His marriage did not break up because he was gay, in fact he didn’t really explore that until well after the divorce. His 3 sons never blink an eye at accepting their father. One son has told him that sexuality isn’t even a part of his thinking, and they completely accept school friends who are gay. I was amazed all evening of how welcomed we were by this fabulous community. In fact, Jean-Guy and Joe told us a few times how glad they were that two straight women had driven 2 ½ hours to attend this event. Little do they know the lengths we’ve gone to, to celebrate Adam!
One speaker who brought tears and aching hearts to everyone was Wendy Walsh, the mother of 13-year old Seth Walsh, the boy who took his life after suffering bullying. Legislature named Seth’s Law followed. See here for more details.
On the other side of emotions, singer Jasmine Jonas really got the room going when she sang Defying Gravity, from Wicked. As soon as the accompanying pianist played the opening bars, almost everyone in the room let out a cheer. I guess the song has become somewhat of an anthem for the gay community. I just loved the irony, seeing how Adam was in the audience too. Her voice was beautiful. Here’s a clip of Jasmine singing Defying Gravity, from another time.
Before Adam received his award, Kathy Griffin was on stage to present the award to Facebook. She made it an absolutely incredible evening for everyone there when she went off-course and started singing Mad World, hoping Adam would join her on stage. When he didn’t, she took a microphone into the crowd, seeking out Adam, who was loving “making her squirm.” Thank goodness for the quick-thinking of whoever brought her the microphone! Thanks so much to Suz526 for having the video camera going during Kathy’s speech. Now you all get to enjoy what we did too!
Next was the topper to the evening; time for presentation of Adam’s award. Here’s the full video shot by Suz526, with intro by Sam Sparro. At 2:29, a completely human moment of Adam’s was shared with us all, when Adam thought it was his time to come to the stage, only to be told “just a moment” by Sparro.
We can see Adam’s growth in his acceptance as a role model. Remember when Rolling Stone came out and Adam was criticized by a magazine editor (I’m sorry I can’t remember his name, but I know you know who I’m talking about) for not being the right kind of gay public figure? And Adam’s position was he wasn’t trying to be a spokesperson, just a singer? Now, he seems to have accepted that role and is doing great things with it.
I felt incredibly honored to have been given the chance to attend this event. I hope you all are able to support Equality in any way you can. Pardon my preaching, but the world will be a much nicer place with it.
Love ya!

The adulation and awards don’t stop! Adam Lambert will be honored, along with Facebook for bringing change and new thinking to society. How many of us look at things differently, now that we’re following Adam Lambert? I’m reprinting the article, stright from SDGLN.com, San Diego Gay & Lesbian News.
LOS ANGELES — Equality California will honor singer and songwriter Adam Lambert, a San Diego native, and Facebook at this year’s annual Los Angeles Equality Awards.
Presented by AT&T, the awards will take place Saturday, Aug. 13, at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.
“We’re thrilled to honor Adam Lambert and Facebook whose work has been a catalyst for social change and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality,” said Roland Palencia, Equality California’s new executive director. “Their courage and leadership in entertainment and social media have helped Californians become more supportive of LGBT rights.”
Lambert gained international fame as the runner-up on “American Idol” in 2009. Since launching his solo career as a singer and songwriter, he has been an outspoken and fearless role model for LGBT youth nationwide.
Lambert also participated in the “It Gets Better” campaign with the hope of helping LGBT youth overcome bullying. His new song “Aftermath” will benefit the Trevor Project, a national suicide-prevention hotline for LGBT youth.
“I am so honored to be invited to and recognized by the Equality California event,” Lambert said. “It’s a pivotal time in the progress of equal rights and I’m very grateful to be the subject of such broad visibility. I strive to lead by example by making no apologies for or withholding my identity as a proud and comfortable gay man. I strongly believe that ALL people have a fundamental right to love who they want to love and if they so choose, have their union recognized by the laws of this country regardless of sex, age, race or religious affiliation. I am hopeful that we are getting closer everyday to this idea of Equality.”
In an effort to prevent anti-LGBT cyberbullying, Facebook has developed the “Network of Support,” a coalition of non-profit organizations serving the diverse LGBT community. Facebook has also adopted policies to create a more welcoming experience for LGBT people on the social networking site, including adding a feature that allows LGBT people to select “married,” “civil union” or “domestic partnership” for their relationship status.

Somehow, I never saw this interview and wonder if there are a few of you who never saw it either? And if you did, during this time of “not much going on publicly in the World of Adam,” it may be a great way to enjoy 10 minutes!
It’s from Grammy-time, so not too old.
I love the way he talks about his fans. He truly gets it that many of us were there for multiple Glam Nation shows and appreciates our loyalty. I can almost feel the hug coming from him through the screen. Hearing that the repeat audience inspires him to raise his game, makes you love him even more! I wish he could have given us 3 things we didn’t know about him. I don’t think we know his favorite cookie, or favorite TV show when he was a kid, or maybe what were the punishments in the Lambert home when he and Neil fought too much? If I was in the interviewer’s chair, that’s what I would have asked. What would you have asked?

We know the Grammys are over, but I just found this great interview with Lindsey Parker and had to post it for you! It was done at the Grammy Media Summit, on February 11, 2011 at LA LIVE.
They talk a lot about the Grammys, and how Adam wanted to go solo to the event. She also asks if Adam wrote his speech and planned his Grammy outfit when he was a boy!
There’s some great talk about the For Your Entertainment album. This interview was the first time I heard Adam address the comments from the fans when the CD was first released (almost 16 months ago!) about the vocals being “a little buried or overprocessed.” He even criticizes this, but gives the reason for this. He talks in more depth about the direction for the new album. He’s moving more in the Whattaya Want From Me? direction, letting us know it’s because it’s the one “everybody loves!” It’s the Grammy-nominated song, the hit single, and ultimately the best sound for him.
There’s a lot more to enjoy, so have a good listen! Thanks to devenlane for posting this to youtube.

Just one day after its release, Adam Lambert’s Glam Nation LIVE CD/DVD is starting to get national recognition! It was mentioned toward the end of the music report on E! News. They show a small clip of him beautifully singing Whataya Want From Me. I know that was to identify with his biggest hit, but I wish they would have also shown some of his “wild child” side! This is another confirmation of his outstanding talent by mainstream media.

***JUST IN!! Here’s Adam Lambert’s interview with Ryan Seacrest on KIIS FM just a few hours ago, courtesy of MJs Big Blog. Hint, to hear the full interview, just listen to Track 2. It starts with Track 1 and continues to the end.
Now, here’s the heart-pumping remix of Aftermath that will get you moving in the morning, at the gym, on the dance floor, behind the wheel of your car, etc.! This remix was done by up-and-coming producer Billboard. This is NOT the version Adam will sing on American Idol tomorrow night. Instead, we’re getting a beautiful acoustic version. This remix version will be available only through adamofficial.

I’m sure you’ve all heard that Adam Lambert will be on American Idol on Thursday, March 10 performing an acoustic version of Aftermath. I haven’t checked with any officials, but I think he may be setting some records. We all know that he was the first past contestant to be invited back as a mentor, but now he’ll be on a second time in as many years, as a guest artist! And to be singing one of his own songs, I just can’t wait! It was incredible when he brought co-writer Alison Porter up on stage to sing it with him at his second-to-last Glam Nation show at the Music Box Theater in Hollywood on December 15, 2010.
According to TheTrevorProject.org, “immediately following Lambert’s performance on AMERICAN IDOL, a remix of “Aftermath” (remixed by Billboard) will be made available on AdamOfficial.com with part of the proceeds going to support The Trevor Project.
“Billboard turns the song into a fresh new dance pop anthem to blast on the radio and in the clubs!” says Lambert.
The Trevor Project is the leading national organization focused on crisis intervention and suicide prevention among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. For more information, visit here.
I must admit I’m an Idol Junkie! I still haven’t voted since the close of Season 8 when I vowed not to touch the voting/texting lines again after having my life turned upside down by one Mr. Adam Lambert. I’ve held true to that but I’m very impressed with the Top 13 this season and think it should be a great show. I wish there were more rockers though. I’m excited to say I’ll be able to share with you all the details that you won’t see on your set. My girlfriend was given two tickets by another friend and I screamed when she invited me to go with her. I love my Network of Adam Friends and I can’t wait to hear him sing!
**This just in!! Tune in tomorrow (Wednesday) on Ryan Seacrest’s morning show on KIIS-FM at 7:30 AM to hear the world premiere of the Aftermath Remix!
Love ya!

Wednesday was a day full of Adam Lambert sightings and events for Carol & Lila, admins of the Adam Lambert Official Unofficial Fan Club, and a few others of us who were lucky enough to join them. We were high on excitement, anticipating seeing Adam live twice on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, as members of the audience on television’s “The Talk” and “Extra”.
I hadn’t attended an audience taping since I was a child, so the whole process interested me. We drove to the CBS lot at 9 a.m., parked, and walked to where they were checking ID’s, searching our purses for contraband, and walking everyone through a metal detector. Then we walked some more to a “holding room” – simply a room filled with benches and chairs – and lots of Adam Lambert fans.
The holding room already had a party atmosphere. Everyone was chatting, laughing, and taking pictures. No pictures, cameras, or visible cell phones were allowed on the set, so now was the time to take photos of each other. I saw some familiar faces from Adam’s concerts, and chatted with various people. People had flown in from all over just to see Adam Lambert on “The Talk”. Chicago, Mexico City, New York – no distance was too far for fans to go to see Adam even for just a few fleeting minutes.
A few CBS “nannies” dressed in red jackets and black pants babysat and entertained us with antics while we sat there… and sat there… and sat there. Finally, a more official, very funny guy showed up from “The Talk” itself. His job was to organize us, explain things to us about the show, and choose a few audience members to ask Adam questions and participate in the show.
All he would tell us about the latter was that the chosen few needed to be able to sing, should know Adam’s lyrics, and couldn’t have met Adam before. All kinds of things ran through my head when they announced that. Was an audience member going to sing a duet with Adam? I tried to imagine what was going to happen.
Finally, after what seemed like forever (time magnified by Adam-nerves), “The Talk” show funny guy escort led us through the streets of CBS studios past cottages and trailers reserved for the stars. We walked this way and that through a maze of cottages, trailers, and sound stages… and walked… and walked… and walked.
Finally, we stopped. My heart beat a little faster as I realized we were at the sound stage for “The Talk”. Adam was just on the other side of that wall! I got more excited, more full of nervous energy every moment.
Let me pause for a side note. I know all of this sounds a bit silly – nervousness, heart palpitations, and anticipation running wild – something a 14-year old might go through over her crush on Justin Bieber. Trust me, I am far, far away from 14 years of age. Why these feelings over a singer – any singer – I can’t fully explain. No singer, no celebrity has ever affected me this way. Except Adam Lambert.
Yet here I was, in a crowd of women (and a few men) who completely understood how I was feeling about this singer called Adam Lambert. People in my daily life didn’t understand. But here, somehow I felt at home with my “Glamily” – fans who totally understood how I felt because they felt the same way.
Outside the sound stage our funny guy escort from “The Talk” pumped us up, got us excited by having us clap and whoop (as if we needed him to get us any more excited than we already were), and finally led us in to the studio, where we were all seated.
More getting us pumped up, more clapping and whooping followed – I guess to get us animated enough for it to come across on camera. On camera, it was explained to us, everything needed to be magnified – bigger gestures, louder clapping, and so on. Here I thought that those bigger, broader actions were reserved for the stage, not for the watchful eye of the camera that saw virtually every nuance in gestures and facial expressions. Nevertheless, we performed like a good audience should.
“The Talk” hosts - Sharon Osbourne, Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Holly Robinson Peete, and Leah Remini - finally came out on stage. The stage was set up almost like someone’s living room or den – a book case and staircase stage left, couches and overstuffed chairs in the background. They chatted on about men doing “manly” things like breaking down doors, changing a car battery, and so on. We politely clapped and laughed.
One of the hosts (Sharon Osbourne I think) at last said, “And coming up after the break – Adam Lambert!” The audience virtually exploded with cheers and clapping. The ladies of “The Talk” panel just looked at us, the audience, a bit surprised and chuckled at how passionately we reacted to that announcement.
A panel member said something about never having had an audience quite like us – we were “the most enthusiastic crowd” they’d ever had. Well, duh! They had never had a guest quite like Adam Lambert, either! The commercial break ended, and finally the reason for all the anticipation, all the nervous excitement walked through the doors onto the stage.
Adam Lambert entered, a broad white smile gleaming and blue eyes sparkling, the audience showering him with a roar of clapping – no, a standing ovation! Whoops and cheers and fervent clapping rose in crescendo and threatened to never end. We waved the various posters we had – which, by the way, they had given to us. I want to clarify that, because I’ve seen far better posters in concerts than we had on “The Talk”. I know the Glamberts are capable of much more. But unfortunately, we were not allowed to create and bring our own.
Adam smiled ear to ear as we continued clapping; then after acknowledging all the applause, he finally sat down. The loud applause continued along with the cheers. But we could see he was about to talk. Immediately we grew so quiet you could hear our hearts beat.
No behind-the-camera prompting was necessary for us to quiet down. The audience monitor who told us when to clap and when to be quiet eventually gave up trying to direct us. We were doing everything perfectly – in fact, probably better and more than they ever expected.
Adam talked about being nominated for a Grammy, and the audience again burst into applause. He talked with the panel members about what kinds of “manly” things he could do, and we learned he could break down doors, change a car battery, and do all sorts of things. Asked if he could do a fireman’s carry, he didn’t just say “yes” – he picked up Sara Gilbert and demonstrated it for us!
Then Adam talked about his charitable contributions. For Adam Lambert’s 29th birthday on January 29th, he asked fans to donate to Charity:water instead of sending him gifts. In the first few hours his fans met the original goal of $29,000. On his birthday itself his fans raised $115,000 – in just one day! Finally, shortly after his birthday, Adam’s fans reached the new goal he had challenged us with - $290,000.
A few members of the audience asked Adam some insightful questions, then later on during “The Talk”, three women participated in a game called “Silence of the Lambert”. They were shown an Adam Lambert video, and then it was stopped after a minute or so.
The audience member then had to sing the lyrics that came after that point for a few bars. It was funny, fun, and Adam was gracious and smiling, as usual. Kudos to the brave women who got up there to sing Adam’s lyrics. I would have been so nervous just being that close to Adam I doubt I could speak, much less sing!
Regardless of what was going on during the show, I sat in rapt attention, watching every move Adam made, listening to every word he spoke. Before I knew it, the show was over. The time went by in a flash. It was way too short.
I had never sat in an audience where Adam was just talking – live. Before, the only times I had seen Adam was in concerts. But at “The Talk” I could have sat there for hours, just listening to Adam talk. Heck, he could have simply read the telephone book, and I would have been happy. But all good things must come to an end, and all too soon the show ended.
After the show was over, Carol, Lila, some friends, and I walked back to our cars and then drove across Los Angeles, straight for The Grove – an outdoor mall near Farmer’s Market where “Extra!” was being shot that day.
We had a long wait before Adam came out to be interviewed – but none of us minded one bit. Adam Lambert’s fans will literally wait for days to see him. When I attended the Music Box concert on December 15, 2010, I met some fans who had literally waited for over 24 hours to get into this general admission concert. And they waited with laughter, camaraderie, and eager anticipation, sharing stories about Adam.
That’s one thing that is so very special about being an Adam Lambert fan – spending time with other fans that can totally relate to how you feel about Adam. For minutes, hours, or days I feel totally at home with complete strangers – the Glamily – when I go to Adam’s events.
Adam finally walked toward the “Extra!” cameras at about 2 p.m., where in an interview he talked about his nomination for a Grammy and about how excited he was to go to the Grammies. He answered questions about how he felt about American Idol’s new judges, and continued to answer other questions posed to him.
We fans hung on Adam’s every word. If you look at the video of “Extra”, just notice some of the faces in the crowd. It isn’t hard to tell who is thoroughly smitten with Adam.
Even though I was too far to hear what Adam was saying, I still sent adoring looks toward him as did all of his fans there. Just having a whole day that was all about Adam Lambert was such a treat. Carol, Lila, some friends and I had started “Adamizing” our lives at dinner the night before we went to “The Talk” and “Extra!” Then the day of the shoots we continued talking about Adam, watching him, listening to him, and trying to thoroughly absorb every single Adam-minute we could.
For a few glorious moments we could forget about the Adam-withdrawal we had been going through since the Glam Nation Tour. That dose of Adam we got on February 9, 2011, should sustain us for awhile – until once again we grow hungry for more of Adam Lambert.
- Sandra Essary

From redblack2 on LiveJournal:
The eighth season of American Idol was labeled by many as a war between conservative America and liberal America. On one end, Kris Allen, the good, modest Christian guy with a pleasant voice. On the other end, Adam Lambert, the charismatic, wild, theatrical guy with the huge voice and ambiguous sexual identity. Although Adam came out officially only after the show had ended, backstage his sexual orientation was out in the open. The black nail polish, the stylish outfits and the makeup that were all part of his performances on the show, left little room for doubt- the guy was not straight. Pictures of him kissing guys that were revealed during the show, did not aid the concealment of his secret from America, but did contribute, however, to the surging buzz around him. The liberal media compared Adam to Barack Obama, and hoped that the unusual contender, like the first black president, would manage to win the American conservativeness against all odds. Throughout the duration of the show, Adam kept mum about his sexual orientation. On the night of the finale, the judges urged the audience profusely to vote for the singer with the superior vocal ability. In other words, to vote for Adam Lambert.

This week we get ready to start a new season of American Idol. While we’re starving for any news on our favorite guy in the universe, I came along this interview by Shirley Halperin from The Hollywood Reporter, with one of American Idol’s vocal coaches. Debra Byrd was there during Season 8, the season that gave us Adam Lambert. Most of the interview is about American Idol, as a whole. But you can’t talk about American Idol, and not mention Adam. He is one of the few contestants who have really been what the show has been all about since the beginning – finding a singer that holds our interest and makes us want to spend our money. Just a handful of contestants have reached that level: Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, David Cook and Adam Lambert. With Adam, we got much more than that. We got an entertainer like no other.

Vocal Coach Debra Byrd Looks Back at a Decade of ‘American Idol’
by Shirley Halperin
Check here to see the article on its site.
From the battle of the divas to an image-challenged David Cook to the sure thing that was Adam Lambert, ‘Idol’s’ resident vocal coach runs down the highs and lows of America’s favorite show.
It’s amazing to think that American Idol vocal coach Debra Byrd (known affectionately to one and all simply as Byrd) was initially hired for only a three-week trial during season one. Nearly a decade later, she’s still behind the scenes walking the contestants through what will probably be the most trying and unforgettable few weeks of their lives, from the auditions through Hollywood Week to the semifinals and beyond, if one is lucky enough to make the Top 12. She’s seen and heard just about everything, and after all this time, Byrd says, “I love the gig and am very grateful for it.” THR’s Idol Worship caught up with the competition’s true taskmaster for a look back at nine years on the show and ahead at what’s in store for season 10.
THR: In all the time that you’ve worked on Idol, what sticks out in your mind?
Debra Byrd: How overwhelming it is for each contestant every season. That’s a constant because almost every one is the kid next door, the everyman, they come from obscurity to this huge platform where there are photographers, cameramen, sound people, hair and makeup… and on top of that, they have to sing great. The constant is the overwhelming nervousness that runs through every season. And there are surprises, too. It never ceases to amaze me when I’m surprised a person’s going home who should have stayed.
THR: Is there one in particular whose elimination you’re still lamenting?
Byrd: Chris Daughtry. But if you look at the big picture, he won. He’s the one with the ongoing career, the record deal, the sales. But it was such a shocker when he was sent home so early. Jennifer Hudson going home was another one. Those three women — Latoya London, Jennifer Hudson and Fantasia — were in the bottom three, and as I was watching them, I remember thinking, “I’m okay if Jennifer goes home. She’ll be alright.” But I wouldn’t have been okay if Fantasia had gone home. That was a distinct feeling I had. Her sound was so different, it was something we had not heard. And I also remember that during the commercial break when Fantasia found out that they were in the bottom, she burst into laughter, and it helped me that she burst into laughter. That was an extraordinary moment for me as well.
THR: Do you think the kids who train intensely for Idol with vocal coaches and whatnot have an advantage over someone who might be naturally gifted with zero training?
Byrd: No matter what type of singer, the advantage comes if they’re comfortable with themselves. The more knowledgeable they are about their talent, the better they do in the competition. If they’re freaked out, nervous, if they have no confidence… buh-bye. Those kids go home sooner, they fold faster. But the singers who are confident in who they are do very well on the show, and it doesn’t matter their age — if they’re 28 or 15, they’re the ones who have no problem being on stage through all the madness.
THR: The season 9 contestants have taken quite a beating in the press these last few months and haven’t really been able to relish in the post-season glory of Idol. Do you feel bad for them?
Byrd: I think I felt badly for them when they were in the season. [laughs] The thing is, they weren’t the only season that people said sucked. There are highs and lows to everything. But let me say this: It’s hard to follow the season of Adam Lambert. Like, what do you do next? Do you set yourself on fire? However, my other theory is, if Adam Lambert had been in season one, he would not have survived. Because we weren’t looking for that in season one. The show was so new, he wouldn’t have made it.
THR: And Adam’s post-Idol success has been nothing short of extraordinary.
Byrd: I never doubted it. You could see it when he was on Idol — this is a guy who was prepared. I think he said this was the last chance he could audition, because of his age, and he and other contestants were really smart about how they presented themselves to the planet. Consequentially, he’s made some missteps, but I’m very grateful that he’s been able to bounce back, so I applaud him. Because he’s very talented, very unique, and I think the music world needs him. I really do. Yes, he’s had a great year, and I’m glad for him.
THR: What’s your take on the new judges?
Byrd: They have great chemistry. I’m also noticing that Randy seems to be a bit more comfortable. And I love what Jennifer Lopez brings to the show. Even when she was mentoring, she was succinct and her comments were very helpful. I thought that she got right to the point. And when I heard that she was coming on board, I said, “That makes perfect sense.” It just felt right. She bring that glamour. And Steven Tyler, I love that he has this thing where he’ll sing to the contestant. From what I’ve seen so far, and I’ve only been around them for Hollywood week, they seem to have great chemistry, but I can’t wait until we get inside the show to see how it evolves even more.
THR: What do you think of the show lowering the age limit to 15?
Byrd: I think lowering the age is a good idea because there are some extraordinary 15-year-olds out there. I can spot them. Even during the audition process in the large stadium, I can spot their age and I can tell when they’re comfortable in their own skin. And when they’re not, you send them away and say, “You’ve got time to come back.” It’s not about age, it’s experience.
THR: How has it been working with new musical director Ray Chew?
Byrd: He was very patient and amenable to the requests that were made of him. He always maintained a great attitude, he never looked like he was bogged down, he looked like he enjoyed it! He was in control, so I applaud him for stepping up to the plate because we’ve had other MDs come through and the total opposite was their first experience where they’re uptight or a bit agitated. He didn’t have any of that at all.
THR: Another change that was announced is the sudden death round. Does that mean that a contestant can’t have a single off performance?
Byrd: Yeah, because it’s an endurance test, too. That’s why I say if you’re confident in who you are as a talent, you will do very well. And yes, even people who are confident do have an off day, but you don’t sing out of tune. You don’t crumble. You stand up to meet the challenge. American Idol is a marathon, as opposed to a sprint, so you have to be smart. You must be mentally prepared and have your tools.
THR: What are the tools that every contestant should have?
Byrd: I’m always leery of the kid who comes into my rehearsal room with no tape recorder, or they didn’t bring their music, they didn’t bring a CD player, they haven’t done any homework — it’s like, why are you here? You should never forget to bring your tools: your music, your lyrics, pencil and paper, a recorder, your throat lozenges, tea… It’s like if you were building a house, wouldn’t you have a hammer? Where are your nails and where is your wood?
THR: What do you like about your job?
Byrd: That I get to plant a seed of any kind in these people who end up having wonderful Grammy-nominated, Grammy-winning and Oscar-winning careers. I feel very grateful and blessed that I have had some input into all of that.
THR: You once told me a story about David Cook’s early challenges on the show and how he wasn’t telegenic enough, care to share it with the Idol Worship readers?
Byrd: Well, it bothered me that David Cook wasn’t on anyone’s radar. The media didn’t pick up on him. David Archuleta was in the forefront, Carly Smithson was getting press, Michael Johns… but David Cook was totally ignored and I love this guy, his voice is extraordinary! So I have a girlfriend in Florida who I call every season to ask her who she likes. She lists all those people I just named, and I asked, “What about David Cook?” She said, “I don’t like him, he reminds me of a stalker.” Huh?
So I stepped back, and I looked at him from head-to-toe, as I do when I’m on the set watching the contestants and the judges’ reactions on the monitor, and really took what she said to heart. He had the goods, I knew he could deliver, but it bothered me that she thought that, and I remember saying to David, “You’re not camera-friendly and I am going to make you camera-friendly.” He said OK, and when people began noticing him, I said, “Now I’m going to make you sexy.” And he said, “I’ll take it!” [Laughs.] It just goes to show that vocal coaching goes beyond just checking on your voice, it’s also how you present yourself to the planet.

The rumors have been flying, and now it is confirmed . . . somewhat. Adam Lambert has been included on the 2011 Grammy Nominees CD! The CD is supposedly for sale on Amazon’s UK site, according to a random Facebook page. If it’s true, I’m sure it will be all over the US stores soon. But why would the UK have it first?? Since he’s nominated for “Whattaya Want From Me” it would make sense that this is the track appearing on the CD. We’ll just have to wait and see!
See here for more information.
Oh, and in case you are squinting a bit to find him, he’s listed just right of center on line 3. That’s a little bit different for him - he’s usually just left of center!! Sorry, I couldn’t resist - tee hee!!
Love ya!
