Two more dates to mark on our calendars! The November issue of Details magazine hits the stands on Tuesday, October 27th, and on Monday, October 19th, set your DVRs to record Entertainment Tonight, which will be featuring a behind-the-scenes story on the photo shoot.
Adam twittered that he had a surprise for us, and he certainly did! Did any of us even know this magazine photo shoot was coming? They did an excellent job of keeping it under wraps. The second surprise was the photos themselves – nothing “under wraps” there!
The article is a little reminiscent of the Rolling Stones article – lots of candid talk about sex and drugs with a little profanity thrown in for good measure. I’ve checked out comments on some of the blogs around the net, and people are talking about the photos being heavily photoshopped, wondering what the motivation was behind the photo shoot, and the whole family-friendly controversy.
Yes, the photos were a bit of a surprise, but really, after Rolling Stone, is any of this truly shocking? I think people try to read too much into things. Adam is an entertainer, and part of his style as an entertainer is to surprise us and pull us out of our comfort zone. The photos are most likely edited to some extent. So what? I think all magazine photos are. Motivation? Some people think Adam isn’t being true to himself, therefore the photo shoot is a money-making sham. Well, sure, the magazine wants to make money. As to being true to himself, yes, for the millionth time, we know he’s gay. But Adam admits in the article that “I like kissing women sometimes. Women are pretty. It doesn’t mean I’m necessarily sleeping with them.” Regarding his appeal as a gay man, he says, “I think it’s beautiful. That’s the way it should be. It shouldn’t matter what a person’s sexual preference is – it doesn’t change their appeal.” I think most of us would agree with this last statement of Adam’s. His appeal to us has nothing to do with his sexual preference.
As for family friendly or not, that’s up to each parent with children to decide for themselves. No entertainer can be all things to all people. If what Adam does is not your thing, be a fan of someone else. Adam is Adam, and I think most of us would rather have him be himself and be happy rather than try to conform to what a certain segment of society would have him be.
Adam entertains. So if we look at the photos and smile (or drool, or faint, or overheat), is that not entertainment? If you’re offended, go somewhere else.
What do you think about the photos? (NOTE: Photos not posted here because the magazine has already asked other websites to take them down)
