It was SO GREAT! Really a surreal night. I went up with Nancy and Damian. He’s bringing his giant 20′ sign that he got Adam to sign last week. They’re really looking forward to the party. I called Tommy (94.1) about 8:30 AM, just before they talked on-air to Carly Smithson about the Copley party tonight and her Idol experience last night. She raved on-air about how superior Adam is! I talked to her last night about her coming over to our party tonight after she’s done at the Copley. Don’t know if she will (probably not!) but she kept saying we should come earlier to the Copley. (Nah, don’t think so!) But, I talked to Tommy this morning about plugging our party on air with Jeff and Jer, and he said he couldn’t promise, but if I did get on-air, to not talk about it like it was a fund-raiser (WHAT?????) but to just be talking excitedly. I’ve written it up so I’m prepared with what to say. Basically a ditto of what Walter said.
***Tommy just called - really apologetic - couldn’t get it on the air, but asked for all the details and will have other DJs plug it today.
I NEVER thought I’d EVER be there, especially for the finale show!!!! We got in line at about 9 AM, just hoping to get tickets to the rehearsal, and ended up immediately getting tickets to the performance finale show!! A girl in line had 2 tickets for friends that couldn’t make it. You’re emailed that morning, have to respond within an hour, and then be able to go at last-minute’s notice! After waiting in line until about 11:30 we finally got our hard tickets. We could leave then, just had to be back to make the 4:30 PM door closing getting into the Nokia. So we spent the rest of the time at the Nokia/LA Live Center. I’m not really sure what the true name is - “Something” Live Center.”
The Nokia Theatre, Staples Center and LA Convention Center all triangle each other on 3 corners. The ESPN News Sports Restaurant is across the courtyard from the Nokia, and they had all the TV Guide Channel and Idol booths in between. We ate at the ESPN in their patio seating, looking right at the courtyard booths. I saw Nigel Lythgoe just walking in to the center next to the patio seating talking to some fans, signing some autographs, etc. I went up to him for an autograph, but he didn’t have any more time - had to get somewhere. One of the canopied booths was for the past Idol stars to sign autographs/pix pose at. They had a computer (AT&T sponsor) to register your name and number on to win a million dollars in that booth. They had long tables lining the back wall, and a bunch of the past Idol stars were sitting at them. The first star (Bo Bice when I was there) had a stack of slick cardboard stationery sheets and they all had Sharpies. I got a lot autographs and spoke to all them - basic fan adoration chit chat. I said how great I thought it was for them to give their time for this (I know, basic suck-up but I wanted them to feel good!). I did ask some of them who they liked, and did they vote, and Carly Smithson was such a strong Adam lover and voter! Everyone said they were for Adam! I managed to time it perfectly, when it was close to shutting it down, so there weren’t many people begging for their time. There were still a lot of people lined up to get in, but they weren’t being let in, so I had extended time. I saw/got autographs from: Bo Bice (I told him I loved seeing him at the SD County Fair and he said he loved San Diego, and loves some restaurant that I didn’t recognize! Also, Blake Lewis, Chiquese, Carly Smithson, Parris Bennett, Kimberly Locke, Syesha Mercado, Lakeisha ???, Vonzell Solomon(?), Hayley Spenato (?) and Melinda Doolittle. On the autograph sheets, you can’t tell which some of the signatures are. It would probably be a fun drinking game!
Now I know what those TV Guide Channel 99 Idol shows are like to be at. Justin Guarini looked handsome and Kimberly Caldwell was really pretty. They were doing different interviews with past IDOL contestants. We could stand right along the partition, 2 feet away from where they were talking. Because we were told in advance we couldn’t bring camera in to the performance, I didn’t even bring mine. I had no idea what to expect. I got Justin Guarini’s autograph at this location, after leaving the autograph booth. I did get cell phone camera pictures of most of the stars.
In the Nokia Theater, the rows were A-Z then started on AA, BB, CC, etc. We were in KK, about 5 rows from the back. and on the extreme left side, looking at the stage. But it was still close enough. Both Nancy and I had binoculars, so no problems.
I loved, loved, loved Mad World! His voice sounded so pure in the theater. We thought he was GREAT! He looked so great in the long coat. But for some stupid reason, Simon was hearing something different and chose not to compliment/rave about his PURE voice last night, which is what the contest is about, and instead flipped out about the coat and fog. Simon - you’re so inappropriate! Adam’s eyes glistened on the good and bad comments from the judges. You could clearly see this on the big screen. He was really emotionally effected. Adam’s voice sounded so pure and ethereal. Kris’ Ain’t No Sunshine was really good but not so much better to “win the first round!” It’s hard to compare Adam to Kris because they’re such different artists. Like apples and oranges.
We all heard it. Adam wasn’t as strong as his usual self on Kara’s song - the song stunk for both of them, but they really should have been harsher on Kris. He is not professionally able to carry off entertaining an audience by himself on more than 1 song. He’s boring! And his voice could not hold up for 3 songs. Instead, they acknowledged the poor performance by saying “judge the whole season.” Well how about Adam - he RULED the whole season. No one could touch his voice quality. At least Simon did say they “had found a WORLD star.”
Updates on the American Idol finale night. Check this page back for more updates soon:
Cyndi Lauper (**I LOVE HER**) will be doing a Duet with Allison (She’s the “fun” girl from a previous post)
Keith Urban will be performing with Kris at the Finale
Jason Mraz is confirmed to be performing. No clue with who.
They are trying to round up as many winners as possible to have a duet a Beatles song. Scheduling conflicts are making this difficult - one or two probably won’t be in attendance
Carlos Santana will be performing at the finale.
Bad news: David Bowie fell through. (Theres like a 5% chance it will happen so they are still working on someone to perform with Adam at the finale) *CAN YOU IMAGINE!?!??! Adam and David Bowie together?!??!
David Cook, Lionel Richie, Queen Latifah andBlack Eyed Peas have already been announced.
The band KISS is also rumored to appear.
What do you think?
