Sisterhood of the Floridian Glambs

When I started the state Glamb groups just about 1 year ago, I could only have hoped that one would blossom into a spectacular union of forever friends, with great leadership, and a fun-filled spirit that is just contagious.  One such group did bloom – the Florida Glambs.

Under the direction of Lisa, these ladies planned and organized concert tour stops in Florida with hotel accommodations, dinners, and even a raffle for!  I was only with them in “glamspirit” via their Yahoo group, but nonetheless, their energy and enthusiasm was contagious.

As they are slowly coming down from the clouds, I’m happy to hear that everyone had the time of their lives.  Lisa is also a Billboard Hot 100 Examiner for  Here is her account of riding the rocket ship!  Stay tuned for more photos from Florida.  ~Dana, Glamb #6

My ride on the rocketship!

I am not sure how long you train to be an astronaut.  I expect it may take longer than 1 year and 8 months but that is how long I have been preparing for my trip to the far away planet called Planet Fierce.  As I made final preparations for my first flight, I came to understand that there were several people who made the journey possible and I want to thank a few of you by name before I share the actual experience with all you.

First of all, my husband who played the role of mission control.  During the flight and exploration of the glitter encrusted planet called Fierce, he did an incredible job of keeping me tethered to the Earth.  There were many moments that I could have easily lost all connection to reality.  He was like gravity, constantly holding on to me to keep me from becoming lost forever in outer space.

While he gave me free rein to explore and celebrate the awe and wonder of this beautiful experience, he was always the calming voice, the strong shoulder, the lifeline that brought me back to earth and reality.  He even provided the tissues during the moments that I became so emotionally overwhelmed that I could not hold back the tears of joy.

Next I have to acknowledge my dear friend and fellow astronaut, Linda who I met only a few short months ago.  She provided not only the rocket ship that carried us on our journey; she was there to share the experience.  Though we have only known each other for a few months, we have now shared an experience that has created a bond that will last for the rest of our lives.

The next person who made it possible for me to actually meet and speak with the Glittery Alien himself is Nancy.  When I knew that I was booked for the journey but missed out on the limited opportunity to have a private audience with the Leader of Planet Fierce, she sacrificed her pass to allow me, a total stranger to have the most remarkable 20 minutes of my life.

Though it is impossible for me to mention by name the others who supported my mission, the group called the Florida Glambs, were my support staff, mentors, fellow astronauts and dear, dear friends. All of you ladies are amazing and the trip would not have been possible and certainly not nearly as memorable and fun without you.  We have spent many months planning and preparing for the journey.  We all had hoped it would be a once in a lifetime experience and I believe, at least for me, it exceeded my wildest dreams.  For the rest of my life, I will be thanking God for bringing each of you into my life.

From the first day that we all entered into our agreement to share this journey, we had a common goal; Riding the rocket ship to Planet Fierce to see and hear the Glittery Alien.  We were so excited and so nervous, yet each of us knew that at the end of the trip we would be changed forever.

We spent 48 hours on that planet, 2-3 hours of actually being in the presence of the Glittery Alien (Adam Lambert for those who do not know) and the memories of those two days will last for as long as we live.  The experience was one that I am still reliving over and over in my mind and heart.  I have photos and videos to prove that I was actually there.  I am glad that I recorded the experience since it was so surreal that it was actually difficult to remember to breath and impossible to absorb all that was taking place.

As for the Glittery Alien himself, he was so much more than I could have hoped for.  That is a huge statement since my expectations were the highest that I had probably ever had in my entire life.  I had made a study of this creature since January 2009.  I had spent countless hours each day tracking his every move, reading about others who had made the journey and been in his presence.  I have watched recorded videos of him entertaining the devoted masses who have pledged their allegiance to this indescribable young alien.  I thought if I knew more about him and I studied the words of those who had gone before me to this planet; it would allow me to be more prepared for my moment.

Before going in to enjoy the show that Adam Lambert came to perform, I was allowed to have a few minutes to meet him personally and in private.  Though there were 25-30 others who were there in the room to have their own time with Adam, he made a point to make each of us feel like we were the only reason that he was there.  We all knew the crazy schedule that he has kept over the past several months.  He has met hundreds of thousands of us, yet he took time with each of us.  Chatting as if we were his friends, allowing us to hug him and be near his magic as he signed his name on whatever silly pieces of paper or other earthly possessions we asked him to sign.  He smiled, laughed, looked each person in the eyes and spoke directly to us as if we were the only person that was in the room.

Once it became time to go into the show, we joined a group of 2000 in an auditorium that was bursting with energy like nothing that I had ever felt in my life.  Looking around the room, you saw a collection of every type of earthly being.  Young, old, male, female, gay and straight.  The room sparkled with color from the skin to the makeup, glitter and jewelry being worn by the masses of humanity who came to honor this remarkable young man.  We all agreed that the time before the show starts is an unexpected experience that brings such a level of joy.  When the entire world seems to be at war and under constant stress, here in this room for this time, we all loved, laughed, danced and sang together and shared a bond unlike anything that we have ever imagined.

When Adam takes the stage, the rocket ship launches and you are transported to that far away planet called Fierce for the most amazing hour of your life.  It is still so hard for me to describe just how it felt.  Honestly, I am now wiping tears again.  The music is out of this world, the costumes, the dancers, the stage show, the voice.  It is so apparent that Adam is the one who directs the entire process. I do not think a mere human could possibly comprehend how he does what he does.  I am more convinced than ever that Adam Lambert is not one of us.  A mere mortal has no power to bring 2000 people to ecstasy with just a thrust of a hip, a tilt of a shoulder, a mischievous smile or by hitting that one perfect note and holding it until it seems to release chemicals in the brains of those listening that makes us crave the next release.

Adam Lambert was not only the alien that the magical rocket ship transported us to see, he was the captain of the ship, he was the navigator that kept all of us traveling along the same orbit, he was the one that gave us energy to endure the journey, he was the mentor who taught us all how to live, laugh, sing, dance and love one another.

I hope someday, all creatures of the earth will see that we need to pay attention to the message being sent back to earth from the Glittery Alien from Planet Fierce.  It is absolutely possible for all people of all nations, all backgrounds, all races, all religions and all lifestyles to gather together and share experiences that will change the way we interact with one another.  Adam Lambert has often said that he tried out for American Idol when he did because it was the right time.  As I look back over the last few days and I look around at the state of the world, I see the brilliance of this statement.  Adam is the man (or the alien) who God has sent to lead us through these difficult times by allowing us to enjoy the ride.  There may be bumps along the way but the journey is one that I hope all of you will book a ticket for.

  1. Beautiful, beautiful, what a special story. Two things especialaly stood out for me, that meeting Adam was all you expected it to be and more while your expectations were etremely high and second that he knows how to give you that feeling that you are the only one in the room with him.
Only extraordinaire strong and charismatic people have this ability. It is right there and then they put the spell on you…..and only people with a special mission on this earth can put a spell on another person.
Yes, you are so right and Adam know it himself, the time is now, for a Gay Man to show the world what Love is all about.

  2. WOW – I HAVEN’T POSTED HERE IN A WHILE, BUT THAT TRULY INSPIRED ME…I’M A WRITER & HAVEN’T BEEN ABLE TO PUT IN TO WORDS WHAT YOU JUST EXPRESSED SO HEARTFELT & BEAUTIFULLY – SUBMIT IT TO OPRAH!! 🙂 WE WANT ADAM BACK ON THERE IN HER FINALE SEASON! WE’RE ALL SENDING IN OUR STORIES, altho you have to cut it down to 2000 characters which may be a challenge!! AND i’m especially grateful you are giving credit to God for sending us Adam, & the special people that we continue to meet on the journey – hearing your persepctive as a first time concert go-er was wonderful, because I’ve been to 5 glamnation shows, plus had the opp to see him on oprah last january, PLUS 2 American Idol concerts back in august 2009…but as you said & it is so true –
A mere mortal has no power to bring 2000 people to ecstasy with just a thrust of a hip, a tilt of a shoulder, a mischievous smile or by hitting that one perfect note and holding it until it seems to release chemicals in the brains of those listening that makes us crave the next release.

craving the next release…he’s addictive – it’s never enuf…we just keep wanting MORE & he so unselfishly keeps on giving…thanks for sharing your special story – means so much to all of us who “get it”! Whole Lotta Love to you & above all God’s blessings, Jill

Did you get to say anythhing to him? Did he smell yummy? Rema

  4. This is a fantastic conveyance of someone’s personal experience. It is so personal to them, yet it is the same feeling that we hear from EVERYONE who meets Adam. Myself included. He truly is almost an other-worldly being. I have been writing on this site for over 1 1/2 years now, since the very beginning. I had no idea if we would last. I am so thankful for all our loyal readers because it has allowed me to stay connected in a way I never thought would happen. I’ve gotten some major benefits from writing for this site. The best of which is the friendship I’ve formed with you and the proud feeling I have knowing how much this site has meant to everyone. We know that Adam and the band love it too! They’ve told Lila, Sue and myself just that when we’ve been lucky enough to have a few minutes with them! 🙂

    Love you!

  9. Dana and all of you. You made me cry, again. When I signed up to lead the Florida Glambs, I never expected much to come from it. Boy, was I wrong. I thank all of you for giving me one of the greatest blessings of my life. I love you all so much. I can’t wait to do it again. Many experiences in our lives are never able to be repeated but I know that next time, it will be just as special and moving as it was this time. Thank you all.

  10. What a wonderful story! And for Nancy to give up her meeting Adam for you, is such an unselfish gesture. I would hope i could have done the same thing for someone, but not sure I could have. So is this it for all the writings? I sure hope not. I have enjoyed coming in here . I don’t chat much at all, but love to see the posts and videos.
    thanks to all of you!
    From a fellow floridian!

  11. ADAM is the blast water, that we drink and then give us a chance to become ALIVE ….ADAM IS THE LIGHT OF MY HEART.LOVE LOVE LOVE

  12. Beautifully written story and tells of my experience exactly in Seattle in July except my angel from heaven who allowed me to meet and spend time with adam was Betsy! Betsy is at the Puyallup Fair lucky enough to see Adam again for the second time this summer. I hope that she enjoys herself and has a safe trip back from Planet Fierce! Amazing story, eloquently written!

  13. I was at Hard Rock and had the time of my life. He was amazing and the crowd was like I had never seen before, full of life and love. Even before he came on the crowd was having a blast dancing and just waiting for him to appear. Once he appeared the crowd was mesmerized. The time went so fast I wish he would have sang for 2 hours. When he spoke to the crowd, I felt so close to him. I will see him again any chance I get.

I wish him a safe trip, fun and adventure, great shopping ,some rest .Let him come home soon we don’t want him stolen, he is our treasure. XOXOXO to ADAM and group

  16. Lisa, thank you for sharing your experience so beautifully and eloquently. I saw his second show of the tour, and although I have been to enough rock concerts back in the day, I have never, ever felt such electricity and love in one room and from such a varied mix of ages, races, male, female, etc.. It is so wonderful that Adam has been able to touch the hearts and souls of so many! Thank you for putting into words what I have not been able to do.

  17. Wish I could be part of your group. We’ll have to start one in the Midwest. I saw him early in June and wish I could go to more shows. Maybe next tour. NIce story. Can’t wait to see what happens in Europe and Asia.

  18. What beautiful stories! Thank you for sharing your special experience, Lisa. How did you ever find words to say when you met him face to face? When he walked over to me after the concert in S.D. I was so awestruck that I was speechless. All I managed to do was to gently touch his wrist. I can’t wait to hear his next song……

  19. Lisa, what a wonderful acounting of your magical journey, you described it well so well for a lot of us who share your feelings of this incredible ride. The joy is infectious, the energy is exciting, the man is amazing.. the voice mesmerizing. Look at all of us here and how happy Adam has made all of us, and teh rest of the fans he’s touched around the world. He’s an embasador for happiness and joy. Shame some of the world is missing out on Adam’s incredible voice and mesage of joy, love honesty and kindness.. If they’d open their EARS, their hearts would open and follow and the world would be a better place.
I didn’t get the whole back/ story, but how incredible for you that you were given that special pass, and the amazing oportunity to actually meet and talk with Adam!! WOWOWOW! I was overjoyed to be able to make eye contact for a split second and thrilled when I felt the cd liner notes pulled from my fingers, knowing HE ahd taken it to sign — “He Had it, he took it!!” =D, even happier he put it back in the right fingers! What a WONDERFUL ride this has been with Adam, and so special we can come to this site and re-live and share the joy we all feel. Thank YOU the creators of the FABULOUS site (my favorite place to play!) and all who contribute here for all of us to enjoy. =)

  20. I am weeping as I read this story. I felt I was alone. I know Adam has legions of fans but I haven’t found anyone to share with here in Australia. Maybe I am the only one. I have been lucky enough to get front row for his concert here but missed out on the vip experience due to a mix up with the timing the tickets were released. I convinced myself that it was fate telling me I was not worthy of meeting Adam. Then I would feel don’t be silly Adam loves all his fans. Back to I’m not worthy again. He has changed my life in so many ways,my husband says I have a new lease on life and I owe it all to Adam. You have made me realise I would have been important to him and can’t wait for the concert next month and hopefully his presence in entertainment until I reach my end. None of my friends get it but now I know there is someone else out there with the same feelings as me. I don’t feel so alone.
All hail the glittery alien as you have dubbed him.

Lisa, thank you for sharing your journey.
Carol, Sue, and everyone else, thank you again for the site!
I just came home from the last continental US concert in Puyallup, WA, and am soooo excited to be able to go to both Hawaii concerts next month. I think the venue in Hawaii does not allow cameras, but if I can sneak one in, I’ll send vids or pics. We are all going to be starving for sight and news of Adam!

  23. Wow! I live in FL and obviously TOTALLY missed all this.

  24. I felt the same way……..awesome story! Thanks for sharing.

  25. Viki Glamb #673 says:

Thank you for putting into words what I have been thinking since American Idol. I went to the Borgata in Atlantic City thinking it was my one and only time to see Adam. But as everyone says, he is addictive. I got to experience 2 additional concerts as some of you know from previous posts. And I agree, I really do not think I could have given up a pass to meet Adam in person. So hats off to you Nancy, and as Adam says in Aftermath, “You get back what you give away!”. So Nancy, you are in for something really great in the future!

  26. delibel (Nederland) says:

Thanks for that great yourney you take us.
Beautifull I must cry when i read it.

  28. Wow! What a beautiful, touching story! This experience you described brought me to tears! I, too, have watched this beautiful, talented man from his first appearance on American Idol. Adam was right about waiting for the right time–we need this now! Thank you!

  29. Such a beautiful, joyful story of one person’s experience with our very own Adam Lambert. It’s so wonderful to hear from people who love him like we do. I love to share Adam stories.

I went to Adam’s concert in Bethlehem, PA with my husband. His voice was amazing as always, but unfortunately we had lawn tickets and could only see Adam as a stick figure. Of course, we could see his fabulous face on two big screens but it’s not the same as seeing him in the flesh! If I ever laid eyes on him in person my mouth would probably fly open and stay that way and paramedics would have to get me out of there! I’m not complaining though because I’m sure some people never got to any of his concerts – so I feel blessed. My goal is to see Adam in person even if I never get to meet him. My next goal is to actually meet him (ha,ha). A girl can dream right?

  31. AllaboutAdam says:

What a beautiful tribute to an amazing human being (to say the least). He’s changed us all, enlightened us all, and brought SO MUCH joy into so many lives. Please let’s not view the U.S. tour-ending with an air of finality… but keep writing about our memories of him until we see him again. The countdown now begins for the new album and – can we stand it? – a brand new tour! Hope the waiting doesn’t kill us first, now that we all have a taste, a tease, of what the rest of our Adam-journeys will be like. He’s like the perfect lover: makes you weak in the knees, grabs your heart, fills up your mind and leaves you with a delicious anticipation of next time!! Until then, just imagine your personal memories of the “simple” things like lace-up pants, bare feet, little beads of sweat rolling down his face, mesmerizing eyes that look directly into yours from the stage, shoulder rolls, BODY ROLLS (like that one in FEVER – YIKES!), his adorable shimmies with Brooke, the millions of smiles, winks, tongue actions (oh, so many of those!), flirting with Tommy – were you lucky enough to see them kiss?….and my personal favorite: THOSE EYE BROW LIFTS! These are the important things after all, are they not? Comforting that you all know what I’m talking about. It’s true… because of him, the material things don’t mean a thing; we are all now and forever “connected with love”.

  32. Lisa, just ready your story. Im so glad we got to share that night together.

  33. I couldn’t have said it better myself. Everything you said is what me and my glams felt and experienced, except having the climax of meeting him in person. God knows we tried. We even had meet and greet passes for after the concert and he didn’t show up because of voice rest. This was at the Idol concerts. Have seen him 5 concerts and it is not enough. It is totally amazing what this young man has done to our lives. I, personally have been reborn.

You either get it or don’t. And we got it from the very beginning of Idol.

    God help us!

  34. Rema, I got to meet him in Oklahoma. And yes, he smells VERY yummy!
