Adam Lambert Commands the Stage with Queen in Kiev!

We’ve all been so excited waiting for this and now it’s here! Adam Lambert just performed a full 2-hour concert with Queen in front of an international audience, only hours ago. You can see and feel the excitement from not only Adam, but from Queen members Roger Taylor and Brian May. The concert gave just the right touches of homage to Freddie Mercury with videos of him during certain songs. In fact, watch closely during Bohemian Rhapsody as Freddie sings with the band. No, it’s not a Tupac hologram!

Adam Lambert majestically rocks Kiev with Queen!

Adam Lambert majestically rocks Kiev with Queen!

When Queen announced that Adam would be their lead singer for Sonisphere, there was so much controversy “across the pond.” Diehard Queen fans speculated that Adam would try to “replace Freddie Mercury.” After watching Kiev, Adam’s sure to gain an infinite number of new fans as he puts that notion to rest. He sang with such confidence and clarity, sometimes putting his own mark on the iconic Queen repertoire. Not one second of this concert is Adam trying to copy Freddie – it is so clear that Adam is his OWN performer. His loyal fanbase already knows that, and now, so will the rest of the world! Just watch him on stage – you’ll recognize many signature moves from Adam’s stage persona.

Adam gets some vocal rest during this 2-hour show as both Taylor and May take over on some of the singing. And imagine how proud Taylor is to have his son Rufus drumming alongside him! Adam was also joined onstage, by Viktor Romanchenko of Ukrainian X Factor for We Will Rock You.

The camera kept showing a couple dressed in white in what looked like a box seat. I don’t know who they are, but wonder if they are a political couple? Sorry if I’m showing my ignorance – if anyone knows who they are, please comment!

Think back to how Adam felt when he performed with Queen at the Idol finale in 2009. He only knew himself to be a local Hollywood boy getting up on the stage with some of his idols. IMO, Queen recognized his talent back then – in fact, they wouldn’t have agreed to be on the show if they hadn’t already been so impressed by Adam. That one performance set the wheels in motion – both Adam and Queen knew they wanted additional performances together. Then came the EMAs in 2011 and the deal was cemented. The international public reaction was overwhelming, calling for more.

Sonisphere, as well some additional performances were booked. Thank goodness Queen didn’t give up after they were canceled. We’ve got 5 more international performances from them to look forward to, thanks to Queen’s persistence in rescheduling. They knew the disappointment from fans who wanted to see the pairing of Adam Lambert with them. Here’s hoping they make some USA appearances too.

Adam has come full circle considering he sang Bohemian Rhapsody to audition for American Idol in San Francisco, and now here he is singing it WITH Queen! Enjoy the 2-hour show in one piece, or the 7 segmented versions.

Lila, Glenda (@glspence01) and I were at the Queen Extravaganza last weekend. Even though primary lead singer Marc Martel’s voice is so close to Freddie Mercury’s, we all kept closing our eyes and imagined Adam instead. Now, thanks to Lambosessed, we will never close our eyes – again!!

Love ya!

About Carol

I started writing on this site back in May 2009, not knowing what I was in for or where it would take me. I had no idea of the joy and personal satisfaction I'd find here. I never dreamed that I'd get to meet Adam, but that dream came true! The bonus of becoming such great friends with Lila and the other fans is what keeps me going. Music gets me though every day. In addition to Adam, I love Muse, Linkin Park, 80s and finding newer bands and supporting them by attending everything that's within 350 miles. With Adam, the boundaries are farther! Thanks for joining us on this ride! :)

I have been waiting for this since the very first time I heard Adam on Idol. I knew I was psychic. I had the pleasure of seeing Queen everytime they came to the Cleveland Colliseum in the 70’s and 80’s. I saw alot of bands, but they were my absolute favorite. Made a huge sign..” Queen is King”., along with the elaborate design they had in the Q. Painted it on a white sheet, and had it tied to batton mitton poles. When we held it up, Freddie.. stopped, and pointed up to us., and gave us a bow.. Amazing, Now getting to see my new favorite Adam.. playing with the amazing band Queen. Full Circle. Thanks so much!

    • That is amazing! Not only we enjoyed these great shows, but now Brian’s on Twitter and all of us get to hear about these amazing stories – the connection between generations finally happened. Don’t get me wrong, I love interacting with people of all ages and nationalities, but the Queen fandom was always a bit… eh, I don’t know how to describe it, hard to deal with, or not being themselves. I have always crossed the boundaries of any given fandom and therefore this “pairing” as they called it is a dream come true. Destiny, one could even say.

  2. Melinda says:

    goosebumps!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. It is a great pleasure to see Adam sing with the Queens… He deserves the best.
Thank you so much, Carol, for the enthusiasm you put in your work. A portuguese fan.

    • Carol, Glamb #2 says:

You’re welcome Luisa! We all feel so good doing anything we can for Adam & his fans!

  4. Holy Smoke! What a tribute to Queen and Freddie that only Adam could make happen. I’m with you, Melinda, like a dream come true.

The first time I heard Adam sing at Idol auditions, I thought of Freddie. A dream come true. You said it perfectly.

    • One of my friends had a dream in 2009, that Adam was the spiritual kid who would deliberately take on the role with Queen. Lol. I myself had several dreams about him, one in which I saw a “sink hole” which to me is a pun on “sync whole” (2012). When he sang Time For Miracles, Brian May was like “squee!”, I could see the connections but still saw Adam as “just a singer” – funnily enough, that soundtrack came to life, but in a very different way than I had expected.
I’ve been looking at this connection ever since the concerts, everything they’ve been saying, and what I can say is Carol is spot on with the “majestic” description. And yes, Adam did indeed only see himself as the local Hollywood boy (lol, as if Hollywood wasn’t what it is, a replacement of the traditional royal symbolism held in Europe, with “stars”). I think the general view held among people is that the whole “Queen” terminology is a type of joke, saying “royal”, “the royal family” and so on, but… “British Rock in the Royal Tradition” was written on the t-shirts on sale there, and I now think it’s the real thing. Look at the so-called “chemistry” he has with them (but then, so does Kerry Ellis, only I could not accept her before Adam, I wasn’t “seeing it” properly). Everything he’s into and which resonates with him is linked with European descent – but at the same time he’s putting those things in their rightful place, as many people have mixed views & feelings about it. Now that I’ve seen him live, I just feel SO relieved about so many things – and he’s healed Brian too. I can’t thank him enough for that.

  6. Patricia Rose1 says:

Thank you, thank you for these neatly organized videos. Watched live stream and then again o er and over today. I’m spellbound!!!!!

  7. Watched it live stream yesterday, phenomenal performance by all. Very beautifully done! Thanks for the vids in segments!

I think the the woman they focused in on before BR might be Mary Austin, Freddie’s friend and love.

    • Just friend… and a lover, in the beginning. But his Love is in the Music, and he never wrote about any of the people in his life, but about an ideal. This ideal was expressed in all the people he loved separately, but he was looking for someone who was all of those things in one. Being a priest of the Goddess like Freddie was (Zoroastrian) isn’t easy. Which is why THANK THE UNIVERSE Adam found his true love, when people started to compare him with Freddie I felt my heart drop to my knees that he was in for the same struggle – but he finished it in a much faster swoop, “fell into a Ring of Fire”, got it over with, and he’s allowed to be happy and communicate that to the audience. “Making Music is about Love, you do it for your Baby!” says the WWRY Musical. We’re all connected, and Old school (i.e. being miserable while giving Hope and Love to the audience) doesn’t work anymore, as Gaga says: there will be no more barriers between us.

  8. One Good Woman says:

Awesome! Adam looked right at home up on that stage, and he couldn’t have done any better. He sounded so great! I loved Queen when they were popular years ago and they couldn’t have found a better singer to front them during this tour.

  9. I think Adam proved to nite that he is in the right place for him. What a classy concert-no drinking or glassy eyes or any gay agenda. It was just great music by fabulous entertainers. Adam was fabulous and proved to be the great frontman that he is. Very well done and nostalgic. Hope we see a lot of this kind of entertainment.

    • It was Love, pure Love. Everyone tries to pin an agenda when they find such a fabulous Opening, it’s just human, but Queen are about Freedom to be exactly who you are, not someone else’s movement. But we are all empowered. Nostalgic? No way… it was alive.

  10. Leilani aloha says:

    FANTASTIC SHOW!!!
ADAM & QUEEN JUST SIMPLY AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!!

  11. Love it! thank you! Adam is the best!

  12. Beautifully written, Carol. I was so touched by his performance and it was such an overwhelmingly proud moment, that I cried several times during it. Adam is the ultimate performer. He is extraordinary and he proved that he can take on any challenge and nail it. Never fails to impress. I am awestruck.

  13. Thank you so much Carol. I just spent 2 hrs watching my favorite guy. I especially liked parts 6 & 7. The emotion he showed while singing was so captivating. He can do no wrong – when he opens his mouth it is heaven. Thanks again!

  14. glamity58 says:

Love every minute of the show. We will Rock You was not my favorite as I thought it would be. Everything else was great, especially the infusion of Freddie into the concert. It was like he was alive.

    • Well, thanks to Adam saying it, I now see that he IS alive. Being in a sh*tty place emotionally doesn’t allow one to notice, and twists everything that happens, all the suggestions, into something painful and energy-consuming. But now the Vibe was raised enough to actually see how Spirit carries on… for real. When Michael Jackson died, I felt such a realization that he was ok, and that he was better. But Freddie cast a huge collective trauma, because his Love is really FIERCE, we’ve all been walking around with dark circles under our eyes… not only that, but everything, all the accusations “how dare you leave?”, all the confusion at God, I experienced as if it were my very own… these days I understand it’s not, but I still experienced it.

  20. This show was beyond epic!!! Electrifying yet so nostalgic. Made me cry and gave me goosebumps on ADAM’s Who Wants To Live Forever, Brian’s Love of My Life and on Bohemian Rhapsody. ADAM showed the whole world he is a consummate and an electrifying performer. He was incredible especially on WWTLF and Somebody to Love. He commands the stage with Another One Bites The Dust and he was pure joy on I Want To Brea Free especially on the line “I’ve fallen in love!”.
CONGRATULATIONS, ADAM baby. I only have so much respect and admiration for proving to the world why you are the greatest performer and vocalist on the planet now and.
You make us your fans so proud to be Glamberts!
You make Brian and Roger proud for not proving them wrong.
You make your parents, Eber and Leila proud. And of course Neil and Sauli.
You simply looked stunningly drop dead gorgeous that night in Kiev, as always!
I thank GOD for you for all the joys you give to your fans.

  21. THANK YOU CAROL !!!! Adam awesome as always! 🙂

  24. Adam needs to be seen and heard by the whole world. He is like no other and I have loved him since I first heard him sing over 3 years ago. He makes me feel HAPPY. When he sang I WANT TO BREAK FREE in Kiev, and broke out with that beautiful smile I had tears of joy streaming down my cheeks. He deserves to be as happy as he has made all of us all over the world, with his beautiful voice and persona.
Thank you, dear Carol, for all your time and efforts in keeping Adam close to us each day in this amazing site.

  25. Eriskay says:

I thought the same thing, “Adam has come full circle.”
What a night!! Adam Lambert does not have to prove to
anyone who and what he is. He is the only voice out
there who can sing and perform like no other!
We knew that from the start, and now the rest of the
world can’t ignore him. Sure, there are always the
haters, but they dishonor Freddie’s legacy!
No one can touch Adam for pure voice and performance!!

  26. I am in awe……….your all fab…. undeniable talent. Thanks for sharing it in the US.
    love Pam –PeaceOut……….xxxxxxxxxxx

  29. Adam and Queen together–blew me away! Totally awesome! Carol thank you so much for the segments and sending this so quickly! I can’t get enough of it!!!

  30. Hopefully with this amazing performance, the world will know what Adam’s fans have been saying for years…..he IS the consumate performer!! I think this performance, along with the others with Queen, will catapault him into another realm of stardom that will seal his fate as one of the world’s greatest and best known entertainers .

  31. UNBELIEVABLE!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THESE VIDEO’S!!
Now will someone tell me how i can somehow copy the “audio” so i can burn a CD???

  32. Very impressive. Hope they can come to the States together.

  33. So proud of Adam; like one of the family has done GOOD! So perfectly at home on that stage -beautiful, beautiful! A bittersweet joy however; I agree with other posters that the world is now “discovering” Adam; those wonderful small venues of the Glam tour may be just a lovely memory. He might want to consider getting a bodyguard. Keep following the dream Adam; we will be right there with you!

  34. First have to thank you for posting this amazing concert. Second, to Simon Cowell, Still think Adam Lambert is too “theatrical” ?!!!! The show must go on, I pray for a US tour !!!

    • No, he doesn’t, he was smiling from ear to ear at Adam’s “theatricality” which means that he was “cracked” (Simon’s manner was satirized in Queen’s musical “We Will Rock You” where the script says real live rock’n’roll died with the appearance of “a terrible monster, called Simon Cowell” – lol – but as is the case in life, no-one plays the same role forever, so once we got that huge smile from Simon he couldn’t go on being the same character on the show. It reminds me of when a guy made a parody of Metallica, saying that now they had kids, they would be singing “If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands!” though still in the Metallica hard rock style – pretty much what happened with Simon, though my mother tells me it’s because he got married… I prefer to think Adam did it…)
