To my Glamb Friends; I posted this on the British Lambert site, the Lambrits, and thought I'd share it
here rather than rewriting another one. Hope you enjoy it.
"I was there! Finally the long awaited day arrived. I’m still sorting out all of my impressions. But here’s some of my comments about the concert.
I’ve been watching all of the performances on youtube, as I’m sure you all have too. The highlights-
Matt Girard was a total suprise. That man is a showman. Nothing like you saw on Idol. He blew me away with his piano jamming, he was at ease, funny, on key(!) and thoroughly enjoyable.
Allison was as she was on the show-a rock chick with Joplin vocals, and wonderful energy on the stage.
Annop sang Gentle on My Mind, and it was beautiful. I didn’t care for the rest of his set.
Michael, Megan and Scott were pleasant. Scott is a hometown boy, and was warmly received.
Gokey-was the singer before Adam. Sorry Gokey fans, I’m not a big fan of his.
THEN, 15,000 people rose to their feet, screaming, yelling, whistling, waving glo sticks and cell phones, the light show came on with thunderous explosions, the intro to Whole Lotta Love played, and out he strutted and took command of the stage.
Honestly, he is bigger than life. And literally big, his height, his carriage, his total ownership of the space he is in. He wears fairly heavy stage makeup-I have a theater background so I’m familiar with it. But of course, our Glambert glammed it up! That somehow, made him seem, well, not that sweet funny boy cutting up with Kris or having one of his candid interviews. He was a star. A showman. Every gesture, every expression, every movement went to enhancing his performance. (I saw Mikail Barishnikov perform once, and he had that same intensity and attention to minutia). Adam seemed…other-worldly.
Am I gushing?
He looked even more handsome, truly stunning up there. I think his song choices fit him so well. His choreography is more defined and precise than it appeared in the videos. The sound system sucked, it’s a sports venue, and his voice was huskier and more gravelly on WLL,(very sexy, actually)and I had the feeling he might be powering through some voice strain.
His set seemed to be over way too soon. As I watched him sink into the stage, I really almost cried. I guess this is the appetizer. We’ll all wait for the full course.
Kris closed out the evening, and he was great. He has changed up his set, so it is far livelier, and he rocked it. The crowd stayed on its feet almost his whole set, just sitting down for Ain’t No Sunshine, the better to savor it. And of course, the group hug at the end, with 15,000 people singing Hey Jude, rocking, swaying, awwwwwh….reminded me of more innocent times.
Hope I haven’t prattled on too much, and you feel a little closer to being there. Later. Na na na na, na na na na, hey Lambrits, good bye!"
And to all of you Glambs, too!
