When I went to TCU in the 1980s, it was a Christians school with the typical "christian" values. Two of my friends "Sean" and "David" were gay and had moved their bed together and got beat up by a guy named JW.

I was in the guys dorm at the time and ran down to defend my freinds. Being lacking brawn and brains, I got in the middle.

I was 5′ tall and barely 90 pounds. I went flying across the room and into a wall by JW when I tried to get in the middle.

The campus police were called and it all ended up in a Vice CHancellors office a few days later.

They were willing to repremend JW for the attack… on me. NOT on Sean and David.

"Welcome to my life," is what Sean said to me with a shrug later. Completely shocked me but it was a serious wake up call about how things really were.

I was a writer and photographer at the Daily Skiff at the time. They refused to even write the story. I was told by the head of the journalism department that they did not publish stories about some 'deviant.' Amazing.

I have never sent TCU a penny, mostly becuase of issues like this.

I admit, I'm leary about one writer on the campus actually standing up for a kiss, but perhaps, and just perhaps, there is some change even on a Christian campus….
