American Idol remains the most popular show in the US, in 2009 drawing an average audience of 26.3 million viewers. The first show of 2010 drew in 30 million viewers. Being on top,

American Idol has little incentive to change anything about the show yet it is increasingly clear that the voting system is fundamentally flawed.
The American Idol audience believes they are judging the contestants and choosing the one with the potential to become a star. Almost 100,000 auditioned, millions will vote and one contestant will win the title and guaranteed recording contract. We are getting down to the wire in Season 9 with only nine contestants left on their quest for the American Idol trophy. In the end, the winner will be the contestant with the majority of votes.
