Diva Adam Lambert – The Host With the Most!

@adamlambert added another accomplishment to his professional resumé when he filled the host role on VH1’s Divas last night.
In front of a packed Shrine Auditorium, he worked the stage and showed the non-Glamberts many of the reasons why we love him so much. For his hosting premiere, he was relaxed and a true pro. (Khloe Kardashian should take some lessons from him!) Adam really shone brightest when he took the stage as singer, performing some of the night’s most incredible numbers. And like a true Diva, he was wearing something new every time you saw him! Check him out on the Red Carpet! Thanks JustJared for the photo.

Lila and I drove up from San Diego and sat in the lower balcony at this amazing event. Proud Glamberts were everywhere we looked, including some of our best friends, who drove and flew in from all around the country. Even though we only visited briefly in the lobby, it was wonderful to see Ellen (@Vudubird), Mary Howe; Leslie (@Scorpiobert), Jan (@deidreinorbit), Angelica (@angelraj) and Diana (@CoralMermaid). We couldn’t find Glenda (@glspence01) but we know she was there too. These fabulous ladies all bought the VIP tickets which supported the Save The Music cause, and were invited to the After Party. We received texts from them at the party, letting us know how fabulous Adam looked and how much he was enjoying his time with Sauli.

Okay, let’s get to the show!

The sparkly turquoise and red stage was electric, and the band led by former American Idol bassist Ricky Minor, really filled the air with full sound. Sometimes a bit too much sound as we were there to hear strong, proud DIVA voices who sometimes were drowned out. I don’t want to take the time here to comment on each of the Diva’s numbers, but as you can see from the show, some were definitely stronger than others. Ricky and Adam weren’t the only American Idol presence. Also performing were Jordin Sparks and Kelly Clarkson.

The first thing that struck Lila and me early in the Donna Summer tribute was that we guess now it’s okay for a singer to walk crawling dancers on leashes? After Keri Hilson and Kelly Rowland started singing, Adam showed up as the real Diva when he came out and lit the flames singing Hot Stuff, wearing what looked like the famous red feather jacket from his Queen concerts last summer. He even managed a costume change mid-song when he rejoined the Divas for Last Dance.

Adam had tweeted a few days earlier that he would be covering a Madonna song and Lila and I looked forward the entire night to this gift. We were hoping for Ray of Light and the Universe delivered! I don’t know who he was vocally channeling during this song, but maybe his tunic held some of the explanation. It looked like it was displaying the formula for his spacecraft to travel back to Planet Fierce! Following the Divas video is the reason why we were hoping with all our might that he’d sing this particular Madonna song.

VH1 will be repeating this show all week. If you missed it, be sure and catch replay and let us know what you thought of the show.

Love ya!

About Carol

I started writing on this site back in May 2009, not knowing what I was in for or where it would take me. I had no idea of the joy and personal satisfaction I'd find here. I never dreamed that I'd get to meet Adam, but that dream came true! The bonus of becoming such great friends with Lila and the other fans is what keeps me going. Music gets me though every day. In addition to Adam, I love Muse, Linkin Park, 80s and finding newer bands and supporting them by attending everything that's within 350 miles. With Adam, the boundaries are farther! Thanks for joining us on this ride! :)

  1. ko, I agree. I never liked that song either, even though I have always liked Madonna. I wondered why, of all her songs, Adam was singing that one. It definitely is a difficult one to sing and I didn’t think he sounded good, either. With a national stage, I always hope Adam will knock it out of the park, so more people will come to be fans, like all of us here! But it was still great to see Adam on TV again and thanks for posting these videos for us. He still is gorgeous as ever! Love him and all his everchanging looks!

  2. Peggy Dixon says:

Carol or anyone…how can I watch this from Canada??

  3. These singers are supposed to be divas with huge voices and I didn’t hear that many huge voices. Kelly Clarkson, Kelly Rowland and of course Adam belted out their songs. All in all Adam was by far the biggest diva. He sang with attitude, power and flamboyance. He never lets us down. VH1 picked the right person for the job.

  4. Another amazing night!

  5. I think AdamOfficial has some information on how Canadians can watch this. Check it out.

  6. I agree, Adam was the most impressive. Kelly is always great, but she’s so unanimated. I like some dancing or some expression. Adam had all of it. I’m not real familiar with Ray of Light and the sound mixing was a little suspect. But Adam is a true pro and handled it fine. The costume was interesting. I hope we hear about this show on some other stations or get more articles. Adam deserves to be hosting more shows. Chloe Kardashian is on X-Factor? Are you kidding me?

  7. Sally Fowler says:

For Peggy and others wondering how we can watch the show in Canada, MuchMusic is airing it on Wed. , Dec. 19th. It’s 8-10 pm for me in Halifax (AST), so check your TV schedules for the time in your part of the country.

  8. Adam was wonderful but I am not familiar with Ray of Light so I did not know what it should sound like but I read on his twitter page that he watched the show from last night and laughed at his own lame ass on Ray of Light. What a sense of humor he has. I don’t know if he meant the music or the outfit. Love him no matter what he does!!!! I thought Miley Cirus was great too and Kelly Clarkson. But ADAM stole the show. I think( not to sound like an American Idol judge) but the rest of the girls voices sounded pitchy. Even Debbie Lovato did not sound so good.

  9. ko’s smiling says:

Adam, that was not good. I love ya, but do a sound check! Could you not hear the music? Is that why you were off-key for most of the song? Jeez, dude. It’s about the singing, remember

  10. @ko’s smiling, I agree with you too. First of all, who picked “Ray of Light”? That is a hard song to sing even for Madonna. Never liked it then, and I don’t like it now.

Since the show was VH1 Divas, I thought for sure Adam was going to sing “Vogue.” That would have been awesome! Even more so if he would have danced a little.

The first 40-45 seconds were bad! He was so off-key. He wasn’t pitchy, he was totally off key all together. I remember in one of his interviews, he mentioned that he didn’t read music. He really needs to learn. That way if the band is in the key of G, he won’t be singing in B-flat. It could also be that the band was pretty loud, but like @ko’s smiling said…MIKE CHECK!

Adam is so professional, and I could tell that he couldn’t hear himself because he messed with his ear piece (something he does often). About 50 sec later, he sounded very Adamesque! I loved his outfit!!

Overall, I thought Adam did a fantastic job, and he sounded great! Congratulations Adam for a job well done! ? you!

  11. That was suppose to be a “heart” not a “question mark.” Weird.

    Love you Adam!

  12. I know this sounds really weird and maybe a little crazy but I heard Adam in an interview on the Buzz on VH1 saying that Madonna picked him to sing one of her songs but he really did not want to say too much cause he could be in trouble for telling too much. Maybe the words were not exactly how he said them but what if Madonna picked this song and him to sing it cause she knows how hard it is to sing and being as she is so close to Monty Pittman(Adams x guitarist and her guitar teacher) it was done on purpose to make him sound bad. But you all are right a sound check would have been good but just thinking… and always defending him.

  13. ko’s smiling says:

Thanks for not yelling at me, Sally. We all love Adam here and it’s nice to be able to be honest about it – for better or worse. Perhaps Ray of Light was a bad choice. I never liked that song, either. Maybe Adam underestimated it…?

  14. I was sitting in front row loge just about 25 feet from where Adam was doing his great emcee bits. “Ray of Light” was a terrible song choice for him. It’s melodically weak and more than a little weird and not a good choice for a strong singer like Adam.

I was immediately aware that he was off-key and so was he, as when he was touching his earpiece you could tell he was havig a technical problem But he gamely kept on going as the consummate professional he is and he recovered his correct pitch mid-way through the song.

That incident aside, I had a wondeful time at the show. Adam is a natural at emceeing. He is just so terrific and mesmerizing on all fronts.

Carol & Lila – missed seeing you there. Glad you got in, too.

  15. @mandy, you know, the thought did cross my mind…LOL!

  16. @songwriter, that is awesome that you were able to attend. I loved the show too. Adam is wonderful in that capacity.

I can’t wait to see him live again.

  17. REDSTAR040665 says:

I would much rather have heard him sing Express Yourself, Vogue, or Material Girl where he could have rocked it out. Ray of Light was not a good choice for him, but I still love him anyhow.
