Janet, AKA songwriter4adam, and I returned to Janet’s home after seeing the show live, and we’ve analyzed the performance and watched it back on big-screen TV over and over. Both of us also viewed all your comments regarding the performance on the previous thread. Both of us formed our opinions before viewing the comments, and sadly, we agree with what the majority of you have said.
We want to shoot the set designer and crucify the choreographer. And did we mention we want to spank Adam? Over and over… Seriously, the performance was disjointed and all wrong right from the start, from the strange Liberace-style piano beginning to Adam’s uncharacteristically angry look at the end. The trip didn’t help, and we hope Adam isn’t hurt, but there were many more serious problems with the performance than the unfortunate trip.
I wasn’t crazy with FYE when I first heard it, but the song quickly grew on me. I loved the sexy lyrics, and the song was catchy and fun. Janet and I agree that the song is poppy and full of kinky fun, and the performance should have reflected this. Adam would have been better served to do a fun, tongue-in-cheek performance with his trademark sexy dance moves than this angry, stilted S&M mish-mash.
Adam never smiled once during the song, and more importantly, never smiled at its conclusion, something he ALWAYS did during his American Idol performances. At the end of this performance, Adam’s eyes and mouth scream anger, and at the very end, Adam almost looks like he’s trying to smile, but instead simply compresses his lips in disgust. We freeze-framed this shot of Adam on the big screen. Neither of us have ever seen this look on Adam.
Now, neither Janet nor I are prudes. But both of us agree that all the crotch-grabbing and the kiss were a total disservice to the performance and the song. The song is sexy and flirtatious - those moves were not. They were alienating. It might have been about sex, but it wasn’t sexy. Hello!!! (That’s Valley Girl talk in case you didn’t know! Hey - I’m learning!)
Now maybe Adam, in his typical “what the hell was that?” fashion was simply trying to be provocative and trying to do the unexpected. But his first performance on national TV of his first original song, one day before the release of his album, is not the time. Hello!!!
After the performance ended, I screamed (this is Adam, after all, in person), but after the screams died away, there was an unexpected, shocked silence in the theater. There was no applause. Ryan ended the show with a lame joke, and people immediately began filing out.
When I asked Janet for her reaction after the show, she told me she needed a few minutes to gather her thoughts. Her first impression was how silent the audience was. It was as though everyone was having a collective WTF moment. In my mind I was trying to defend the performance as provocative, but I couldn’t disagree with what Janet was saying. We were confused, as many of you are, and when we watched the performance again on TV, we realized it was even worse than we first thought.
I want to cry for Adam, and when I’m done spanking him, I want to hug him and tell I love him anyway. It will be OK. Adam may lose casual fans and I’m afraid his album sales will take a hit, but I don’t think this one performance defines Adam, and I hope that none of you will stop supporting Adam because of this literal and figurative “trip-up.”

***UPDATED WITH VIDEO*** This time it’s US Weekly’s Hot Hollywood 2009! How is it possible that in every subsequent batch of photos Adam looks hotter than before?
And I’m sorry, Kris may be “cute” but he doesn’t define hotness for me at all.
This will probably be my last post until after the AMA. I’ll be there, so on Monday night watch for my report! I can’t wait to see Adam perform!!!

Enjoy!!!

Here’s a great video of Adam auditioning dancers for the AMA performance of For Your Entertainment. It’s fun to see the role reversal - Adam’s behind the table this time, and others are performing for their lives!

Aaron Hicklin, Editor-in-Chief of OUT magazine, wrote this “Dear Adam” letter:
I like you, I really do. Although I’d never watched American Idol, I
became a fan this year thanks to your unapologetic flamboyance
and sexual swagger. It was refreshing to see someone playing by
his own rules among so many cookie-cutters. And although you
narrowly lost to Kris Allen, you were the real winner for those of
us who saw your success as a test of America’s growing tolerance.
That’s why we’re proud to have you in this year’s Out 100, along
with all the other men and women who don’t believe their sexuality
should be a barrier to success. It’s unfortunate, therefore, that
your record label and management don’t share the same view.
Read the rest of the letter here.
The following is my opinion of Mr. Hicklin’s letter. I don’t think I’ve ever read an editorial that was so critical of someone featured in their own magazine. More than just critical, it was rude and mean-spirited. To even suggest that Adam and Adam’s management team should not make their own decisions in what Adam wants to do and what’s best for Adam’s career is ludicrous.
In Adam’s interview with OUT, he stated he wants to be remembered first and foremost as a singer. Here’s a snippet from the interview:
If you were going to pick one thing to be remembered for, so far, what would it be?
That I can sing my face off. I mean, that’s what I do. All this other stuff is part of a personality, persona thing surrounding that. I hope that people are like, “Oh, I like his voice. I like his music.”
As a singer, Adam and his team made the decision to “come out” (not that he was ever “in”) in Rolling Stone, a magazine that spotlights music and artists. (Gee, makes sense to me!) I see no reason at all for criticizing that decision. Adam is first a singer, who happens to be gay. The notion that gays who don’t choose to be solely defined by their sexual orientation should be criticized is ridiculous. He’s been up front and honest about all aspects of his life. I don’t think the problem is Adam, who is doing just fine living his life on his own terms, but people like Mr. Hicklin, who expect others to submit to HIS agenda.
I hope Adam continues doing what he wants to do, not what others expect or want him to do. I was excited when I heard OUT was going to be featuring Adam, but I’m so disgusted by Mr. Hicklin’s editorial that I’ve decided not to buy this or any future issue of OUT.
“We don’t want to sound ungrateful,” says Mr. Hicklin. I don’t think you tried very hard, Mr. Hicklin, because every sentence of your article proclaims your ingratitude. But I’m willing to bet you won’t mind pocketing all the extra money this issue will bring you. Well, sorry, but you won’t get my dollars.
You can also read Michael Musto’s take on this whole affair here. Mr. Musto is glad he voted for “the other guy.” (He claims this line was meant as a joke.)
What do you think of the editorial and of Mr. Musto’s article? Are you going to boycott OUT or buy it?

***UPDATED WITH LINK TO ARTICLE***
OUT magazine will feature Adam on the cover of their “Out 100″ issue along with other nominees. The issue will also contain an interview with Adam. This will be the December issue, which will most likely hit stands in the next week or so. I checked my local Barnes & Noble today, and they didn’t have it yet. But here’s a sneak peek at the photos:

Here is the link to the article.

The December issue of Elle magazine with the Kradison photo shoot is on stands now! I picked up my load of copies this morning at Barnes & Noble. Do you guys remember the “mystery” backstage photo from a while back and all the speculation over whether it was really Adam or Kris dressed up to look like Adam? I thought it would be fun to post that mystery photo again and the finished product - clearly, as most of us thought, the “mystery man” was indeed Adam. Here they are:

The following is an article by Jocelyn Vena of MTV News on the photo shoot:
Kris Allen, Allison Iraheta and Adam Lambert all certainly have very distinct senses of style. So when the trio of “American Idol” stars teamed up for an Elle magazine photo shoot, they each got to express their individual sense of fashion. And, yes, that means that Lambert was wearing eyeliner and spiky platforms.
Lambert appears in the spread all dolled up in a glam suit posing with a microphone. “Accessories were the big thing for Adam,” Elle creative director (and “The City” regular) Joe Zee says in his A to Zee column in the December issue.
“He’s got a classic uniform of nonconformity,” Zee continued about Lambert’s look. “But I wanted the finishing touches to make his look a look. Think dangerous: chainmail scarf, link-chain gloves, spiked boots.”
Just to illustrate the contrast of the singers’ styles, Zee dressed Allen in Lambert-style wings and platforms — a look the “Idol” winner clearly can’t pull off. But in the real spread, Allen embraces his “soulful quality” in a tie, vest and skinny black pants, holding an acoustic guitar. “He’s like a young Chris Isaak who can sing in a stadium and make every person feel like it’s a one-on-one performance,” Zee wrote.
As for the only lady in the group, Zee wanted to keep Iraheta’s personal aesthetic alive and make sure her rocker spirit was captured in the photos, dressing her in a figure-hugging one-sleeve dress and leopard-print ankle boots. “I’m very inspired by girl rockers,” Zee explained, “especially a young Courtney Love and Grace Slick, and mixed kick-ass sexy with the toughness of her attitude and the music.”
And here’s the MTV video:
The article and video can be seen here.
Check this out! Oh, and Elle is also doing a really fun poll on Adam’s hair and makeup. Lots and lots of our favorite Adam pics from earlier in the year. Elle’s poll is here.

***UPDATE*** Adam just tweeted:
“Thank you all for making my album #1 on the itunes pop chart and #10 in general music. I’m so thrilled you all want to hear it!!!”
In less than 12 hours, FYE the album rocketed to #10 on the overall iTunes album chart and #1 in Pop. Wow! Pretty terrific considering Adam hasn’t had much, if any, in the way of paid promotion. Face time in the media, fan sites, and word of mouth seem to be doing it all. Can you imagine the result if some honest-to-God real promotion dollars in the way of advertising were thrown Adam’s way?
Adam’s album is now available for pre-order on iTunes, and it’s chock full of extra goodies! Your pre-order contains two exclusive bonus tracks, “Master Plan” and “Down the Rabbit Hole” plus two behind-the-scenes videos and a digital booklet. Wow! I’ll be ordering mine today!!!

***UPDATED - 2ND 2012 PRESS INTERVIEW ADDED***
Can we get enough videos? Check out this interview by Roxanna Bina for 2012! Darn, but he looks good.
~~Jeanette, Glamb #5
Here’s the second part of the wonderful interview by Ruben V. Nepales of the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
LOS ANGELES — “THE world of rock has a bright new star.”
Queen guitarist Brian May wrote those words in his blog after hearing Adam Lambert’s “Time For Miracles,” the theme song from director Roland Emmerich’s disaster film epic “2012.” When we asked Adam to comment on Brian’s effusive praise, the “AI” standout couldn’t hide his thrill. “It’s such an honor,” Adam said. “Brian May is part of one of the best bands out there ever…To have him give his stamp of approval meant a lot to me.”
Here’s part two of our interview excerpts with Adam, who grew up in San Diego, home to a large Filipino community. That could only mean rock’s new star has Pinoy friends so yes, he craves our food every now and then.
Was there positive reaction from fans when you admitted being gay?
I was a little nervous coming out. But I had to do it because there was so much speculation. I didn’t want to go through the rest of my career with people constantly trying to figure out what I’m about and getting into my personal life, so I just figured I’d crack it wide open. Now we can just get past it and make some music.
Would you sacrifice your trademark look for a movie role?
As long as the role is good, it doesn’t matter if I have to take off my eyeliner and nail polish.
What are the things you’re still struggling with?
Remaining levelheaded and grounded is a slight struggle but I’m doing good. Dealing with the lack of anonymity is a new adjustment but it’s worth it. I’m getting all I ever wanted so if I can’t go to the grocery store without being recognized, it’s a small price to pay.
Have your friends and family already said, “Come down,” or something?
No, they’ve actually been kind of affirming that I am staying that way—it helps to hear, “Good for you for staying on two feet, Adam.” I am like, “Thanks guys. If I ever start going up into the clouds too much, pull me down please.”
Can you look back on your first “Idol” audition?
That probably was the most nervous I was throughout the entire process. My heart was beating so fast. I was just trying to stay cool…Paula was really sweet and I kind of knew what to expect, but the minute Simon and Randy said they had their doubts, I thought, “Okay, this is your moment; fight for it.” I opened my mouth and said, “Come on, give me a chance.”
Have you seen “This Is It”? How influential was Michael Jackson to you as an artist?
That movie is fascinating. I was satisfied to see how he contributed to the creative process…doing choreography and musical arrangements…If something was not right, he went, “No, no, no, no,” because he just didn’t feel it.
Despite your admission in that Rolling Stone article, women are still attracted to you.
Maybe it feels safe for them. Maybe they feel like, “Okay, well, I can fantasize about this guy but I don’t have to worry about my husband being mad about it.” Maybe there’s a safety there because I’m not available for that sex.
Who were your musical idols when you were younger?
Definitely, Freddie Mercury…I discovered the music of the ’70s a little later though. I grew up with Michael Jackson, Madonna, the big pop stars of the ’80s and ’90s. Later, in my 20s, I got into the whole Summer of Love era, that whole movement in San Francisco. I got into Jimi (Hendrix), Janis (Joplin) and the Beatles, and then Led Zeppelin and Queen. I loved T. Rex and Sweet, Gary Glitter and Bowie.

We know that Adam has been getting some great press in the U.S. from the likes of Ann Powers, Lyndsey Parker, etc., but just imagine the delight of many of our International Glambs when articles like the one below surface. This lovely in-depth article is from the Phillippine Daily Inquirer by Roben V. Nepales (Part 1 of 2) and is continuing proof that Adam is indeed our “World Idol.”
LOS ANGELES—“I did this myself, yeah,” Adam Lambert said with a smile, amused at a female reporter’s question on who dressed him up or styled him today. “This is out of my own closet. I like clothes so …”
“This” is his version of glam rock—pinstriped jacket, T-shirt with Marilyn Monroe’s image, skinny jeans and silver boots. The look is completed by his trademark dark eyeliner ringing those blue eyes, spiky hair, black nails and striking rings on each hand.
Mix those elements with his chiseled facial features and an incredible singing voice—and wonder no more why women fling their underwear at him onstage even though he’s admittedly gay.
Beyond these physical attributes, the “American Idol” runner-up is remarkably grounded and sensible. Very confident and articulate as well, the 27-year-old singer gave a very moving comment when a reporter told him that he must have wonderful parents.
“I do have great parents,” he said. “My father is teacher-oriented. He was very much guiding me through. I always felt weird and kind of out of place. I remember my father from my early age going, ‘It’s okay. When you’re older, everybody is going to want to be your friend, trust me. The weird ones are the ones that everybody wants to be like when they’re older.’ I really enjoyed hearing that as a kid. He gave me a little tip. He was like, ‘Hold on, just hold on. It will all work out. It will all fall into place. People will understand you later.’ So that gave me a lot of confidence, being like a strange kid. And my mom is just as supportive.”
It’s all working out for the “strange kid,” probably way beyond what his father had imagined. Adam’s much-awaited album, “For Your Entertainment,” comes out on Nov. 23. He gets to sing the theme song of “2012,” the apocalyptic movie of epic proportions. Titled “Time For Miracles,” the song was composed by Alain Johannes and the late Natasha Shneider for the movie that stars John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Thandie Newton and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Interviewed by my wife Janet for TV, Adam disclosed that he has Filipino friends so he rattled off the Pinoy food that he loves: “pancit, adobo and lumpia.” Told that “American Idol” alumni David Cook and David Archuleta have been to the Philippines, Adam said that he wants to visit the country, too. He offered a message of hope to Filipinos affected by the recent spate of storms, according to Janet.
Below are excerpts from our interview with Adam.
Can you talk about your journey from “AI” to this point?
It’s been pretty wild because I didn’t think I would get as far as “Idol” at all. Every week that I got through, I was like, really, they voted for me again? So each time I thanked my lucky stars and just did what I do. I just didn’t expect all the support that I’ve been getting and it’s been really amazing, very flattering and very exciting because I’ve been working towards this type of career the 10 years that I’ve lived in Los Angeles. I’ve been working toward this so I feel like it’s all added up into this moment.
And this moment includes the release of your album and you singing the theme song from “2012.”
Yeah, as soon as “Idol” ended, I was busy that month, already working on my album, with different producers, doing writing sessions and then the opportunity came up for the “2012” song. Alain and Natasha’s demo for it was this beautiful melody, just a beautiful acoustic kind of rock feel and then with (producer) Rob Cavallo, we made it like an epic kind of rock power ballad that I’m very proud of.
“For Your Entertainment” is the first single off the album. It’s a lot different from “Time for Miracles.” What’s great about “Time …” is that it has a kind of classic rock power ballad feel. It appeals to all ages. It goes full on like Zeppelin or Queen rock toward the end but starts out with a beautiful melody. It does what some of those great classic rock ballads do. I’m really happy with it. As for the single “For Your Entertainment,” we wanted to release something that was dance club ready. I wanted to get people dancing, drinking to it and shaking and feeling kind of sexy.
Is acting also in your future?
I hope so, yeah. It is something that I’ve done a lot over the past eight or 10 years. If the opportunity came up and it was the right thing, I would love to be a part of a film. Right now, I am going to try to work on the album first. One thing at a time, right (laughing).
Talk about your androgynous look.
Even on “Idol,” I wear my eyeliner and my black clothes, my little rocker outfits. That’s just how I’ve always dressed over the past couple of years. You can label it however you want—androgynous, glam, emo, Goth. We can put a bunch of different labels on it but I’m just being myself. I like to pretty it up like all the good rock stars do. Mick Jagger and David Bowie did it and I’m like trying to do it now (laughter).
What can you say about your female following?
The female following is really flattering, with underwear flying up on stage (laughter). I never really expected that to happen but I’m enjoying it. It’s very flattering and I like the attention (laughter).
Five million people are probably trying to give you directions about your career. How do you know what’s the next step you should take?
I don’t think anybody ever knows the next step. I think “Idol” was a great microcosm for the way that this could work from here on. I was given the opportunity and what was so great about “Idol” is because it’s a contest. They help you where you need help. But they really put it in your hands which made it really exciting for me because I had to pick the song, what I was wearing, what my staging looked like, what the arrangement was, and obviously there were professionals in each of those fields who went and offered their advice and they were like, “I think you should do this. What do you think?” And it was all teamwork in a way. I think that was like a great way to experiment with how I would be received. Okay, this week I’m going to be crazy, over the top with my eye makeup on and screaming and wailing at the top of my lungs.
On the album, you went to many different ways …
I did. I went four or five different ways all on the same album. That’s what I decided after “Idol.” I was like, okay, I have all this classic rock that I’ve done. I got a lot of credibility from that but I also perform “Mad World” which is like a New Romantic, New Wave haunting ballad thing. I did a disco song and I did a bunch of different types of music.
I wanted to figure out a way to do an album that had cohesion to it but that was kind of a variety of different directions, just like what my experience was on “Idol.” I think we did it.
As far as your question on what to do now, I’m trying to keep following my instincts. Luckily, my team that I work with both at 19 and RCA have been really great with backing me and asking me like, well, “what do you want to do?” They’ve been very supportive. Maybe more so than people will think. It’s not as Svengali puppet master as people commonly think the “Idol” experience is. It’s actually been the opposite.
Can you talk about some memorable moments that have happened to you so far?
I remember that finale getting ready for the Kiss performance which was actually really funny. Black Eyed Peas were onstage and I love Black Eyed Peas. I love pop music as well as rock music and Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas walked in. I was getting rhinestones glued onto my eyes at a backstage makeup mirror. She just wrapped her arms around me and gave me a big squeeze. She was going, “I just love you.”
I turned around and I was like, “No, I love you! (laughter) …” And then she said, “Look at your outfit, wow, you know (laughter). Is that thing painted on?” So it was great moment, just that kind of exchange. It gave me a lot of confidence going out there in my glitter platforms, thinking that Fergie thought I was cool. That felt good (laughing).
After you said in that Rolling Stone interview that you are gay, was there negative reaction from the fans?
Yeah. I mean, I’m sure. I tried not to pay attention to the negative reaction because that’s a waste of my energy. There were a couple of people who felt turned off by that. Quite frankly, if my sexuality is enough to deter you from the art that I’m creating, then you probably shouldn’t be my fan, anyway, because I’m looking to create fun music that’s entertaining and sometimes makes you want to dance. Some of the album tracks are emotional and very vulnerable. If you can’t get past that, then you’re probably not going to enjoy the music anyway, so to each his own.
You can find the interview here.

tvguidemagazine.com ran this brief article today. It doesn’t tell us anything we didn’t already know, but it’s an excuse to post the accompanying photo of Adam in all his androgynous glory. I know some of you don’t like this look, but it is stunning and different. I like it, but what is that black ponytail thing draped over his shoulder?
Here’s the article:
His first single from his debut album For Your Entertainment is already climbing the charts, but Adam Lambert isn’t about to rest on his laurels anytime soon.
“I’m really excited,” the American Idol runner-up tells TV Guide Magazine. “Then I realize no one’s heard the album yet so the pressure is kind of scary.” Luckily, Lambert promises his 14-track disc, due out November 23, is diverse enough to appeal to all music fans.
“I wanted to span a bunch of different genres,” he says. “There are songs that are really angsty indie rock. There are songs that are very classic rock and there’s a couple of dancey electro kinds of things. People tend to sometimes not listen to a whole album these days. They put together their own play lists so I wanted to treat it like an eclectic collection of things that had me at the middle of it.”
The article is by Dana Meltzer Zepeda, and you can find the article here.

Anyone who has followed Adam in the press since the early days of American Idol knows that Ann Powers of the LA Times has also been following him o these many months. Ann has provided us with many positive and in-depth articles over this time, and here’s another gem. She not only talks about Adam, but the music industry as a whole and how Adam has been influenced by it and how he fits into it now. It’s one of the very best articles on Adam I’ve ever read. You MUST read this! Here’s a portion of it:
Kicking off another typical seven-day work week in the offices of his management company 19 Entertainment, Adam Lambert fixed his gaze on his own pretty face. Scattered across his publicist’s desk were proof sheets from a photo session with the singer, who will release his debut album on RCA Records, “For Your Entertainment,” Nov. 23. The shots captured Lambert in typical glam-god poses: peacock, street tough, space oddity, freaky adventurer in the boudoir of the damned.
Lambert, who in person is none of those things but rather a startlingly grounded 27-year-old radiating Southern Californian optimism, took up a red pencil and circled a frame. “This one needs a little fix here,” he said, momentarily playing art director. It’s all part of one big performance for Lambert as he works to resurrect rock in the new pop age.
But hold on. When such hyperbole is thrust at him — by, say, an overly admiring pop critic who followed him closely during last year’s “American Idol” contest, when he broke ground as the most successful Idol to be rock-oriented, androgynous and gay — he lifts a ring-laden hand to brush it away.
“I want to put it out there that I don’t take myself all that seriously,” he said. That’s one of his mantras. “The dress-up supports that; the fantasy element supports it. People want to talk about whether I have rock cred, whether I’m selling out, the theatricality, the gay stuff. . . . Chill out! And just enjoy yourself. It’s not that deep.”
Then he corrected himself, slightly. “Sometimes it is deep. Some of the songs on the album are,” he admitted, pointing to the song “Soaked,” a sweeping epic about the loneliness of one-night stands that’s actually a cover of an unreleased track from Muse, and a very serious one at that. He also singled out “Broken Open,” a ballad he co-wrote, which he said is about encouraging a lover to become vulnerable enough to cry.
“But sometimes it’s just, ‘This is hot, I feel good, this song makes me want to go get a drink and flirt with somebody and have a good time.’ Good energy is just as credible as the cathartic, dark, heavy” stuff, he said. “It’s just as important!”
This might be the most exciting message Lambert carries forward into one of the most intensely observed major label debuts in recent pop history. He’s reminding America that rock music can be joyful, light-spirited and sublimely silly, just as pop can explore serious subjects beyond the call to hit the dance floor. And that a rock star might also like to dance.
The Lambert way
As Lambert plays the role, a rock star doesn’t have to be an angry punk, a brooding post-grunge puritan or a hair-metal style macho dude in a dress. These approaches all have their purpose, but Lambert projects something different: outrageousness that’s totally at peace with itself.
He does this by connecting countercultural ideas — values he learned as a kid touring Germany in a production of “Hair,” the musical that first brought rock’s spirit to Broadway — with a trouper’s sense of artistic performance as work, which takes brains and a certain sharpness as well as talent.
“His No. 1 challenge, which I think he’ll pass, is stay true to himself and to roll with the punches as they come,” said Rob Cavallo, who has worked with artists from Green Day to the Dave Matthews Band and produced four tracks on “For Your Entertainment.” “He’s going to have successes. He might have people against him. Which is exactly what happened to Elvis, the Beatles, to Prince. . . . There will be controversy, and there will be opinions. If he stays true to himself he will be one of those great artists to watch over the years.”

Preview Adam Lambert’s New Album
Amazon posted 30-second snippets of all the songs on FYE (link above), and Gil Kaufman of MTV reviews what he heard in this article:
After months of hype, Glamberts finally got a chance on Tuesday (November 3) to check out Adam Lambert’s debut album, For Your Entertainment. And while the “American Idol” runner-up’s coming-out disc is still a few weeks away from its official November 23 release date, Amazon’s U.K. site posted 30-second clips of all the songs on the CD, which promises to be every bit as over-the-top as the singer has promised.
And, in case there was any doubt, the clips confirm his promise that “glam is back.”
The songs include the throbbing title-track first single, as well as the collaboration with “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi, “Strut,” a chugging slab of glam rock with some ’80s-hair-metal-worthy guitar and a mix of Lambert’s falsetto and lower register. There’s also the new-wave-y ballad “Whataya Want From Me,” which bounces along on a bed of churning guitars and was written by Pink and radio-pop maestro Max Martin. Like “Whataya Want,” the disco ball-spinning raver “If I Had You” sounds a bit like a dancefloor remix of a Kelly Clarkson outtake, slathered with Lambert’s signature winking sensuality.
And, of course, there are ballads, such as the sweeping, Linda Perry-co-written “A Loaded Smile,” which has Lambert pining over mechanical-sounding drums and weepy synthesizers, and “Broken Open,” an icy tearjerker that plays out over chilly keyboards and a spare, haunting beat.
Lambert has plenty of space to get loose, as on the “We Will Rock You”-style thumper “Sure Fire Winners” and the hair-metal stomper “Music Again,” a mystically powerful rock song that bears the heavy influence of co-writer and spandex-loving British wailer Justin Hawkins, formerly of the equally falsetto-tastic band the Darkness.
It’s not hard to pick out the influence of OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder on “Sleepwalker,” which falls into the singer-songwriter’s growing canon of majestic/ominous-sounding ballads, such as Beyoncé’s “Halo.” There’s also no mistaking the song that Lambert was so excited to work on, the Lady Gaga collabo “Fever,” a preening bit of carnival pop that allows Lambert to indulge in some vocal bump-n’-grind as he sings like a naughty, gritty-voiced carnival barker over a throbbing beat and bouncy keyboards.
The album will also feature the bonus track “Time for Miracles,” the bombastic ballad from the disaster movie “2012.” Other tracks include the big-screen piano ballad “Soaked,” which could rightly be mistaken for a B-side from collaborators Muse, the mid-tempo rocker “Aftermath” and a yearning pop-rock song co-written with Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo, “Pick U Up.”
You can view the article here.
Here is a link where you can hear the snippets back-to-back.
I haven’t been able to listen to any of the song snips yet…have any of you been able to? If so, what do you think?
ADDED: Anyone who wants the snippets as mp3 files for download, email me at jeanette@glambs.org and I’ll forward them to you. I’ve already got mine burned on a CD so I can listen in the car tomorrow!

Adam attended the premiere of the movie 2012 on November 2nd. We carried the live stream as it ran (about an hour and a half) but the camera only got the above brief shot of Adam. The announcer managed to interview a dull-as-dirt John Cusack and Roland Emmerich, but NOT Adam…good job, dude.

‘For Your Entertainment’
Performed by Adam Lambert
Written by Dr. Luke
Produced by 19 Recordings Limited/RCA Records
So hot
out the box
Can we pick up the pace?
Turn it up
heat it up
I need to be entertained
Push the limit
Are you with it?
Baby, don’t be afraid
I’ma hurt you real good, baby
Let’s go
It’s my show
Baby, do what I say
Don’t trip
on the glitz that I’m gonna display
I told you
I’ma hold you down until you’re amazed
Give it to you ’til you’re screaming my name
No escaping when we start
Once I’m in I hold your heart
There’s no way I’ll ring the alarm
So hold on ’til it’s over
Oh, do you know what you got into?
Can you handle what I’m ’bout to do?
Because it’s about to get rough for you
I’m here for you entertainment
Oh, I bet you thought that I was awfully sweet
A fallen angel swept you off your feet
But I’m about to turn up the heat
I’m here for your entertainment
It’s alright
you’ll be fine
Baby, I’m in control
Take the pain
Take the pleasure
I’m the master of both
Close your eyes
not your mind
Let me into your soul
I’ma work it ’til you’re totally blown (right?)
No escaping when we start
Once I’m in I hold your heart
There’s no way I’ll ring the alarm
So hold on ’til it’s over
Oh, do you know what you got into?
Can you handle what I’m ’bout to do?
Because it’s about to get rough for you
I’m here for you entertainment
Oh, I bet you thought that I was awfully sweet
A fallen angel swept you off your feet
But I’m about to turn up the heat
I’m here for your entertainment
Oh oh…
Entertainment…
I’m here for your entertainment…
Oh oh…
Do you like what you see?
Let me entertain me you until you scream
Oh, do you know what you got into?
Can you handle what I’m ’bout to do?
Because it’s about to get rough for you
I’m here for you entertainment
Oh, I bet you thought that I was awfully sweet
A fallen angel swept you off your feet
But I’m about to turn up the heat
I’m here for your entertainment

***UPDATED - ADAM TWEETED THE ANNOUNCEMENT***
Adam just tweeted this:
Debut single is called “For Your Entertainment” get ready to shake yo asses to this song. It’ll make ya dance for sure.
Seems everyone is speculating on which song will be Adam’s single. I never bought into the Pink song rumor…I’m sure Adam sang the hell out of it, but I couldn’t see a Pink reject being Adam’s single. So, here’s my take on what I think the single will be. Adam tweeted this about 2 hours ago (late Wednesday morning CT):
Thanks guys!
Well here’s some more album info for you guys! The upcoming single was produced by Dr Luke!!
OK, so if the single is produced by Dr. Luke, wouldn’t it be “Entertainment”? Makes sense to me, since it will be the “title track” of the album. Here’s what Lyndsey Parker of Yahoo! Music had to say when she heard and reviewed the song:
“Entertainment” - The default title track and statement of intent, masterminded by Dr. Luke (Katy Perry) and Claude Kelly (Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson), Adam opens this one up, Rocky Horror-meets-Robbie Williams-style, with the audacious declaration: “I’m here for your entertainment!” And he ain’t kidding. This is an ultra-caffeinated party-starter (imagine if Mika, Sam Sparro, and Kevin Rudolf had a threesome that resulted in the conception of a glittery alien baby…if you dare), and it’s just begging to be remixed by everyone from Calvin Harris to the Neptunes to Justice–even though it sounds like a shiz-hawt remix already, as is.
Has anyone else heard anything to either confirm or deny this? As usual, we will wait for an official announcement, but all this waiting, waiting, waiting really invites speculation.
If they would only tell us WHEN the single is due to drop!
~~Jeanette, Glamb #5
Someone mentioned in comments yesterday Simon’s famous line, “What the hell was that?” and I replied, “’What the hell was that’ is our manta.” Some people may have thought I was joking, but I was dead serious. In light of the widespread panning of the new album cover, I feel that now is a good time to remind people of the night that Simon made that statement. It was March 17th, Adam’s American Idol “defining moment.” It was, of course, Simon’s initial reaction to “Ring of Fire,” followed by “absolutely indulgent rubbish” and “horrific” and the equally famous line, “People are throwing their televisions out the window.” Adam just laughed.
It was at that moment that people either agreed with Simon or realized that we were seeing someone special – someone who was telling us that they wouldn’t conform an inch more than they absolutely had to. It was someone who’d promised during Hollywood week that he’d “twist it” and was delivering. It was someone who could surprise us, shock us, and give us something we’d never seen before. And it was someone who could entertain us – not just sing, and not just perform. A performer, to me, implies someone going through the motions – an established series of moves or steps. There’s almost a mechanical connotation in the word “performer” for me. Adam takes it a step further – he’s an entertainer. By definition, he captures our attention and holds it. It’s an indefinable thing - call it the “it” factor, or whatever, that separates performers from entertainers. (Which is why I finally now “get” the album title!)
I was saddened yesterday by not only the sheer number of people who commented on the web that they disliked the cover, but the brutality of the comments. I read “soft,” “feminine,” “cheesy,” “amateurish,” and that wonderfully creative adjective “bad.” Some people, of course, are non-fans. I don’t care about them. They never got on the bus and never will. But I’m disturbed by the number of Adam fans who sent up a collective wail of “why o why did he choose that cover? It’s not what we expected!”
So what happened between March 17th and today? Maybe it was the long weeks of the concert tour, seeing Adam every day in the same outfit, singing the same songs, making the same moves. Maybe that one image of the fierce Adam decked out in studded and spiked leather became burned in our brains. Yeah, baby, drop him in the desert, hand him a weapon, and he can kill bad guys alongside Mel Gibson! Maybe this “manly” image, coupled with the Details photo shoot, had people thinking the heterosexual fantasy was reality.
Maybe it’s just personal choice. Maybe people find “manly beauty” more appealing than “androgynous beauty.” That’s fine – we all have our personal likes and dislikes. But to lament the choice and cry “why o why” makes no sense to me. Have we forgotten that this is Adam? Have we forgotten March 17th? Was it that long ago? Did we just get too used to the tour concert “look”? Is it that we want Adam to conform to our expectations? Are we feeling too entitled these days? Are we too selfish, wrapped up in our own wants?
Er, guys, this is Adam, remember? This is the man who loves to change it up and show us a different side of himself every time out. He’s a kaleidoscope – shake him up and you get a different look every time – but it’s all Adam, and it’s all beautiful. To me, the gender thing doesn’t matter – beauty is beauty, and the different looks are all sides of the same man.
I know I’m not going to change the minds of Adam haters. And if you’re an Adam fan and dislike the cover, I’m not going to change your mind, either. All I’m asking is that the next time you have a Simon moment and find yourself thinking “What the hell was that?” take a deep breath and remember March 17th and Ring of Fire. That was Adam’s promise to us for the future.
Adam is being Adam, and he’s delivering that promise by entertaining us - he grabs our attention and doesn’t let go. I don’t think he has now or ever had any intention of going “mainstream,” and if you hate what he does, I think he’ll laugh, just like he did on March 17th. He loves changing it up, and he hopes we love it, too. But if we don’t… Well, in my opinion, if you dish up hatred because he’s not conforming to YOUR expectation, that’s your problem – I don’t think he’s going to worry about it.
Of course, it’s the music that matters. But I have a feeling that people will have mixed feelings about the music as well. Critics and fans alike may not love all of it. It may not conform to what we became used to during Idol. Heck, I’m pretty sure *I* won’t like all of it. But when I have my Simon moment, I’ll remember Ring of Fire.
I hope we never get to the point where people stop asking “what the hell was that?” That will be a sad day, and that’s why I made the comment “’What the hell was that’ is our mantra, and we’re proud of it.” I don’t editorialize often, but I feel strongly about this. I think it goes to the core of what it means to be a fan of Adam’s. You either accept the fact that he’s going to be himself, or you don’t. If you don’t like being surprised, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
Better yet, if you want something safe and sappy with a non-threatening cover, go buy Take One.

***UPDATED WITH JIMMY KIMMEL INTERVIEW***

Adam and Katy Perry at the “This Is It” premiere in Los Angeles! I have to say they make a good-looking couple. Not diggin’ Adam’s outfit as much as the one he wore for the AMA nominations, though. The jacket here doesn’t look like it’s properly fitted at all…when it’s buttoned it pulls terribly. Looks a little better unopened. I also like the blue/black combination better than the all-black look. But hey, Adam and his bulge still look pretty damn good. The haters can’t say he looks “girly” in these pics, can they?
Here’s a short video:
~~Jeanette, Glamb #5

Wow - I can’t even drive home from work without missing breaking news these days, but this is news I’m happy to come home to! Here’s the cover for FYE, and I LOVE IT!!! It’s colorful, stunning, attention-getting, and beautiful - all the things a book cover or album cover should be! So much better than just the usual photo of the recording artist staring blankly into the camera lens. I love the celestial background, the blue hair, the makeup - everything! I have to say that while I wasn’t thrilled with the album title, I’ve gotten used to it, and the cover more than makes up for any misgivings I previously had.
This is a work of art - totally befitting Adam. I don’t think this cover - or Adam - is meant to represent reality. Art takes the elements of light, color, and composition to illicit an emotional response, and that’s what this does. This takes us out of our hum-drum lives to a place of fantasy and limitless possibilities - the “sky” is literally the limit. And I don’t see the makeup as “girly” but simply as beautiful. “Manly” or “girly” doesn’t matter - it’s not about gender, but about a universality that embraces all. This cover art is brilliant. I had high expectations, but this shattered my expectations!
Adam just tweeted “Glam is back!!!” And how, baby!
What do you think?

***UPDATED - MORE PICS ADDED***

On Saturday, October 24th, Adam was the headliner at the annual Party City Halloween Bash and Industry Awards held at the Boca Raton Resort & Club in Boca Raton, Florida. Party City donated $400,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of America during the event.
Adam sang Idol favorites “Ring of Fire,” “Black and White,” “Mad World,” “Born to be Wild,” and “Whole Lotta Love.” How in the world was he able to sing with fangs? Adam has me constantly in awe!
WOW - that photo is yummy! As both a vampire author and an Adam lover, could I be any more in heaven?
The second pic is courtesy of Party City, a party specialty and Halloween retailer. Party City collected and donated the $400,000 through in-store donations for the support of the Boys & Girls Club. Party City put out a press release which you can read here.
Third photo - all I can say is LUCKY GIRL!!!!
Now, if Chistmas would only come early in the way of the SINGLE…please???????????

***UPDATE - ADAM JUST TWEETED***
Adam just tweeted this, confirming what we suspected:
“@paaattty yeah this “take one” thing is basically “on with the show” re-tooled. Now this is ALL material recorded in ‘05 not written by me.”
Not exactly a ringing endorsement.
Adam followed up with this tweet:
“*the Single SHOULD be out next week…” YAY!!!!!!!!!!
An album titled Take One is available for pre-order at Amazon and is scheduled to drop on November 17th. The Amazon listing shows this album to be by Adam and put out by a label called “Coldwater.” There is speculation that this is another attempt by the same people who tried to put out the Want album titled On With the Show earlier in the summer. When the single Want did not sell well, the album was never released. (I googled “Coldwater” and came up with nothing.)
It would seem these people are trying to cash in on Adam’s popularity and also take advantage of the timing of Adam’s official album - to catch us while we’re in a buying frenzy, so to speak. Adam hasn’t twittered about this new “fake album” yet, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he does not endorse it. It will be interesting to see if Adam does twitter about this in the next few days.
I can’t tell you what to do, but I am NOT going to order Take One. As much as I love Adam’s music, I am not going to put money into the pockets of people who are trying to take advantage of Adam and us, his fans. What do you plan on doing?
MJ has more on this story here.

This is just a short little video of Adam promoting the AMA show, but lots of different shots of Adam - he looks sooooooooo delicious in his blue and black threads!
Also, for those of you who haven’t heard, in addition to Adam, past Idols Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry and Carrie Underwood will also be performing.
There will also be a number of Glambs attending the show in person, so you can be sure we’ll be bringing you lots of first-hand reports from different perspectives.
The American Music Award show will air on Sunday, November 22nd at 8:00 ET on ABC. You can also view the show on USTREAM.

***UPDATED WITH THE NEW EW “SHAW REPORT”***
UPDATE: I just received my new copy of Entertainment Weekly in the mail, and I found this little tidbit interesting. In “The Shaw Report” of who’s in and who’s out by Jessica Shaw, she writes this:
IN - Adam’s CD
FIVE MINUTES AGO: Allison’s CD
OUT: Kis’ CD
Hmmm…what do you think about this? It’s wonderful that she thinks this about Adam, but I feel a little bad for Kris and Lil’ Sis. Allison’s CD isn’t even out yet!
I apologize for posting this cover photo again - just can’t get enough of it! As some of you have already found out, the November issue of Details is on stands a few days early. Several of you have found it in stores today, and I did, too! My Barnes & Noble had it on the shelf, and I purt’ near cleaned them out. If you’re interested in this magazine, I suggest heading out to your local bookstore early, and if you’re the type to want to keep a pristine copy for posterity, don’t forget to pick up more than one copy.
The November InStyle is also on shelves today.
I now know how it feels to tote 15 pounds of magazines! My suggestion to B&N is to get thicker, stronger plastic bags - my haul came very close to dumping out of a ripped bag on the rain-soaked ground. Not to worry, my adopted Glambs! Your copies are clean, dry, and slobber-free.

The video asks, “WHAT IS THE ZODIAC SHOW?” and in just a little over one minute gives us a pretty good idea! There are only a few quick shots of Adam, but this teaser will definitely have us salivating for more!
“Zodiac: Metamorphosis” is due out next year.
~~Jeanette, GLamb #5
***UPDATED - TIME FOR MIRACLES AVAILABLE NOW ***
Adam just twittered the following:
It’s official! My debut album, dropping November 23rd will be called “For Your Entertainment”
So what do you think of this title? Personally, I don’t care for it at all. After all the suspense and making us wait I thought they would come up with something really different and uniquely Adam. This title is soooo generic - it could apply to any singer in any genre. Reminds me of the old movie “That’s Entertainment” which was a collection of movie clips. It’s very forgettable. For those of you who thought our Glambs title choices were bland, well, I think ours were GREAT compared to this! I wonder why they didn’t use Strut or Sonic Lobotomy?
Of course, it’s the music that’s most important, but I was really hoping that all aspects of this album, including the title and the cover art, would be signature Adam - provacative, outrageous, and creative. I trust that the music will be far superior to the title. I’m trying really hard here not to say how much I hate this title…oh, what the heck…I HATE IT!
Wanted to add this video to make myself feel better. It’s an interview by Yong Chavez at the AMA nominations. Love the hair!!!
What do you guys think about the song title?

On kissing women: “I am gay, but I like kissing women sometimes. Women are pretty. It doesn’t mean I’m necessarily sleeping with them.”
On entertaining: “It’s all fantasy – that’s what entertainment is. I’m here to entertain you, and if my sexuality is apparent and you respond to it, and you’re attracted to it, then great, I’m doing my job.”
His American Idol past: “There’s a feeling of entitlement [with the fans] because they voted to get us where we are. But you know what? I am responsible for what I created on the show – you voted for what I created, and thank you, but I created it, you didn’t.”
And from Laura Saltman of Access Hollywood, here’s a great video showing Adam’s reaction to the photo shoot:

After such a seemingly long dry spell of no Adam news, we are finally feeling the wind and rain, and we’re loving it! Each day now seems to bring either music news, new interviews, or new photo shoots.
To the magazine alerts we can now add InStyle magazine. The November issue has a nice one-page spread on Adam with some fashion and non-fashion Q & A.

Here’s a transcript of the article, courtesy of Mr. L:
Itching to work with?
Lady Gaga. She has a bold look and her music is awesome. We could have a lot of fun performing together.
Favorite discovery
The IPhone. I love the Bump app that lets you exchange contact information with someone by bumping your phones together and Speak Easy is really great for recording vocals.
Signature scent
Dior Homme. It’s so yummy
Style Icons
David Bowie, Marc Bolan, Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler, Prince and Michael Jackson were big influences on me.
Fashion faves
Gareth Pugh has a men’s line that’s unbelievable. There’s Skin Graft, a L.A. design house that made a lot of my leather jackets and accessories on Idol, Brian Lichtenberg who does holographic leggings and sweatshirts, Diesel jeans and Loree Rodkin jewelry.
Drink of choice
I’m addicted to those 5-Hour Energy shots and unsweetened ice coffees.
Recent splurge
My four day get away to Bacara Resort & Spa in Santa Barbara. It costs a pretty penny but was well worth it.
Beauty essentials
OPI nail polish, M.A.C. Smolder eyeliner and Bad Head styling products.
Necessary extravagance
Manicures. Often I paint my own nails, but on tour there is manicurist on site – and she does a much better job!
If I didn’t audition for Idol..
I would still be a chorus boy in ‘Wicked’ in Los Angeles.
Looking forward to
My album – it’s 100 percent me. Rock, pop, dance, electronic and funk – a little bit of everything.
So how many of you are the type to buy a product just because Adam uses/endorses it? I have to plead guilty to buying a few of Adam’s “favorites” - his “Me” by mezhgan eyeliner and OPI onyx nail polish, but I don’t automatically run out and buy everything he endorses. I’d go broke!

Adam twittered that he had a surprise for us, and he certainly did! Did any of us even know this magazine photo shoot was coming? They did an excellent job of keeping it under wraps. The second surprise was the photos themselves – nothing “under wraps” there!
The article is a little reminiscent of the Rolling Stones article – lots of candid talk about sex and drugs with a little profanity thrown in for good measure. I’ve checked out comments on some of the blogs around the net, and people are talking about the photos being heavily photoshopped, wondering what the motivation was behind the photo shoot, and the whole family-friendly controversy.
Yes, the photos were a bit of a surprise, but really, after Rolling Stone, is any of this truly shocking? I think people try to read too much into things. Adam is an entertainer, and part of his style as an entertainer is to surprise us and pull us out of our comfort zone. The photos are most likely edited to some extent. So what? I think all magazine photos are. Motivation? Some people think Adam isn’t being true to himself, therefore the photo shoot is a money-making sham. Well, sure, the magazine wants to make money. As to being true to himself, yes, for the millionth time, we know he’s gay. But Adam admits in the article that “I like kissing women sometimes. Women are pretty. It doesn’t mean I’m necessarily sleeping with them.” Regarding his appeal as a gay man, he says, “I think it’s beautiful. That’s the way it should be. It shouldn’t matter what a person’s sexual preference is – it doesn’t change their appeal.” I think most of us would agree with this last statement of Adam’s. His appeal to us has nothing to do with his sexual preference.
As for family friendly or not, that’s up to each parent with children to decide for themselves. No entertainer can be all things to all people. If what Adam does is not your thing, be a fan of someone else. Adam is Adam, and I think most of us would rather have him be himself and be happy rather than try to conform to what a certain segment of society would have him be.
Adam entertains. So if we look at the photos and smile (or drool, or faint, or overheat), is that not entertainment? If you’re offended, go somewhere else.
What do you think about the photos? (NOTE: Photos not posted here because the magazine has already asked other websites to take them down)

***UPDATED WITH MICHELIN MAN INTERVIEW*** Some of the tidbits in this interview are things we already heard yesterday, but it’s always great to look at Adam. He already looks like a star - his gorgeous looks, his incredible sense of style, his poise and confidence and total ease with not only the media, but whatever situation he’s put into. He just *belongs*! Not bad for a kid who used to feel he didn’t fit in. What an inspiration - not only to young people, but all of us. It’s never too late to be the best you can be.
Laura promises more to come soon, so stay tuned!
Here’s the Michelin Man interview. I don’t care what context you put that outfit in, it was hideously ugly and not at all flattering or interesting as far as I’m concerned.

Lyndsey Parker interviews producer Rob Cavallo in the above interview and demands “scoops” - Rob obliges!
Rob describes Adam as “one of the most gifted singers I’ve ever recorded” and also adds that Adam’s range is “limitless.” Rob says that Adam is “the greatest, nicest guy” but that’s not a scoop - we already know that! Rob says that he did 6 songs with Adam for the album, and calls it a “glam robot invasion kind of thing” combining classic rock and modern pop. At the end of the interview Lyndsey asks for song titles, and Rob mentions “Winners,” “Music Again,” and “Suburban Decay.”
Rob also says that the Time For Miracles should be released on October 18th, but he didn’t sound 100% certain on that.

While we’ve been waiting for the storm to hit, we’ve been showcasing the talents of some of our Glambs. As many of you know, our AdamAddict, Emili, is an artist. Some of you ‘encouraged’ her to share with all of us, and she has. Below are some of her drawings. She only asks that you please not copy these drawings to other websites, but simply enjoy them here. Emili also wanted me to show you the photos that inspired each of the drawings.
Enjoy!
