Adam Lambert Sends a Message to Gay/Lesbian Teens: It Gets Better!

Although Adam Lambert has stated repeatedly that he doesn’t want to be a spokesman for the gay community, he is looked up to by so many. Here he sends a message full of hope, understanding and encouragement to teens who are troubled. He is able to speak with current insight, because even though millions of fans around the world think he is magnificent just the way he is, he is still a victim from comments on articles about him and his career. I know none of those derogatory comments would ever appear here on our site, but they must be out there.

I found the article here on Celebrity Gossip.net., and the video comes from Perez Hilton.

Love ya!

About Carol

I started writing on this site back in May 2009, not knowing what I was in for or where it would take me. I had no idea of the joy and personal satisfaction I'd find here. I never dreamed that I'd get to meet Adam, but that dream came true! The bonus of becoming such great friends with Lila and the other fans is what keeps me going. Music gets me though every day. In addition to Adam, I love Muse, Linkin Park, 80s and finding newer bands and supporting them by attending everything that's within 350 miles. With Adam, the boundaries are farther! Thanks for joining us on this ride! :)

  1. I have watched this video so many times. Every web site has it. It so perfect. Here is Adam in ultra cool black and white, with make-up, glittery costumes in the back and yet just himself, telling it like it is. Best of all the “it get’s better” vids because he gives examples of the bad that he is experiencing, what to do, “ignore and look to the positive” and the real part, “it’s up to you”. Attitude rules in this situation. Help everyone you know to evaluate their prejudices in view of the real world of 2010!

  2. Adamisamazing says:

Carol, beautifully said. This video was inspirational, intelligent and thought-provoking. Adam helps people everyday, and now he is trying to help those that are bullied by fearful, ignorant, short-sighted people. His message is one of strength, love, and positiveness. To have someone articulate what people face as beautifully as Adam does, has to alleviate some of the pain and loneliness people feel. You shouldn’t be defined by your orientation just as you should not be defined by your age, religion, ethnicity, race, etc. But, with all the headlines regarding these sad bullying episodes, I am so glad that Adam put himself out there, and was brave enough to say what he said. He actually made me cry because it is so heart-wrenching what is happening to Adam and others. Like Carol said, he doesn’t want to be the spokesperson for gay rights. He simply wants to be known as an entertainer; not the openly gay singer as journalists like to write. Do you ever hear anyone saying…”Steve, the openly straight teacher” for example? No, it is just ridiculous to define someone like that. Adam is a beautiful person who certainly doesn’t deserve these nasty comments written about him on other Web sites. But, as he knows, it is just ignorance and negativity. And, love will win out…it always does. Thank you Carol and thank you Adam for this.

  3. Adam is so caring and thoughtful! People who bully others do so because they are lacking something in themselves, and think they can make others fear them to make up for it! It is totally dispicable, and I’m so proud of Adam for sharing his experiences and assuring them it will get better.

  4. Mary-Ellen #444 says:

Adam has been blessed with many gifts and obviously eloquence is one of them! He speaks so beautifully and simply from the heart and his own experience it brought tears to my eyes. Those who criticize Adam do not know him and those who criticize other people never look past the surface. Shoot, even God doesn’t judge people til they’re dead, why do we think we have a right to judge anybody?! Adam’s message of love and acceptance has been the greatest “statement” he could ever make and I am proud to be his fan.

  5. gran4adam says:

I BELIEVE IN YOU TOO, ADAM! What a wonderful, beautiful man you are. Thank you for caring so much. It will get better because of people like you. Can’t wait to see you again in LA! Thank you Carol for this video.

  6. JoAnne T. says:

Very well said Adam! There are alot of h8rs out there that just love to prey on someone who feels insecure about whatever it is they are going through and it is time to stand up and say “ENOUGH”! All my life I was put down for not “fitting” into the mold that society thought I should and it took a long time to say honestly that those people’s opinions do NOT matter. We are all equal in Gods sight and that is that! I recently had an experience at a church and I PURPOSELY wore my Adam t-shirt to see if it was truly a “judgement free” zone. Sad to say it was NOT the case with everyone. I had someone say “Do u like Adam?” which at first seemed a friendly question which turned out no to be the case because after saying YES I got the snide comment “Well, do u pray 4 him? He needs it!” That person walked away quickly before I could defend Adam further and it really did make me angry. Adam is so open and loving with everyone and he is a role model for EVERYONE, goodness knows I’ve learned alot from him.

    JoAnne T. (Glamb#497)

    • Thank you JoAnne for your courage to wear your Adam shirt to church! You are just as brave as he is!!!

      • JoAnne T. says:

Thank you Irena!!! I didn’t think of it as bravery but now that you’ve mentioned it….I guess I have gotten a bit more thick skinned thanks to our beloved Adam.

        JoAnne T. (Glamb#497)

  7. Lamchops50 says:

I’m proud of Adam. This is very well done!

  8. waveridergal says:

WONDERFUL!!!!!! We will probably never know exactly how many young people Adam has helped with his message. I’de be willig to bet a bunch!

You are AWESOME ADAM! So real and straight forward with your comments. I listened several times and tried to put myself in a young person’s position and I felt a lot of peace.

  9. adamlover51 says:

way to go adam! your fans are all very proud of you and your message of love and acceptance regardless of our differances i wish the world would follow your example,I’m amazed that in this day and age people can still be so small minded and so hatefull to they’re fellow manI think it’s kind of funny that it’s us grandmas that get it! WE love you and wish you the best always and stay just the way you are a beautifull human being

  10. MyBoyAdam says:

That was such a wonderful message! My daughter is bi-sexual and she looks very masculine. She’s had rocks thrown at her in middle school, was bullied in other ways and she’s tried to commit suicide multiple times. Now she’s 17, doing much better and is able to stand up to hateful people but it still gets hard sometimes. I want her to hear Adam’s message!!! Thank You Adam.

  11. Well said Adam, I hope your message will be seen by those young people who have lost hope in themselves. You are an inspiration to them and to the world, and yes, it will get better. May much sucess follow you as you go forward, and stay just the way you are a caring, loving, human being.
    YOU ARE MY IDOL!

Thanks Carol for sharing this video with us, it is very much appreciated.

  12. I agree that adams message is g reat how ever you cant always be strong when you are beaten down everyday and your 11 years old!!!! . L ETS GET SUICIDE PREVENTION EDUCATION in the schools families mem bers, teachers, religious leaders, communites, could help. GAYS ,MENTAL HEALTH , ,PEOPLE WHO ARE JUDGED AS DIFFERANT are not in the closset ,every body knows someone in their community .I also think using the word bully is a glossy verson !! lets not forget the word SUICIDE as well , if its used people may start deal ing with it .Its the worst feeling to be afraid to live and to die ADAM has already made an impact he has millions of fans to prove it lets help the ones who cant help themselves thanks ADAM for just being you!!!!

    • I agree with you that the word bully has become a euphemism. This people are tormenting other people. I am always baffled by how poorly schools deal with this. My kids go to a Quaker school with a strong anti bullying statement and with a three strikes your out policy. Still I’ve had to bring things to the teachers attention that were happening right under their ver eyes.
Bullying also happens in the work place to grown ups. A friend of mine droppped out of a nursing program many years ago because of being bullied for no apparent reason other than they just picked her. These women who did this were future nurses! It’s just plain scary!

I think it is very powerful that some many Adam fans are up in arms. This shows the force of community.
We can be a world wide web of Glamberts againts bullying. No other entertainer that I can think of has ever set that kind of social change in motion. The sixties were a time of huge change but it was a change that took place through music, books and students at major universities.
We are talking here about fans of one man only. The First Man, Adam.

  13. Thank you Adam for your inspirational message. You may read and hear negative messages
about you sometimes, but there are so many more loving messages and people who admire you and
cherish you. You have a lot of impact on young people who are suffering and you might not
know it , you have probably already safe some life. People feel very uncomfortable in the presence
of someone who does not fit the mold. You have been given a gift, please continue to share it
with us, not just with your music but by your presence.

  14. How is it possible that I respect and admire Adam any more than I already do? What a beautiful human being whose message is powerful, uplifting and helpful to those who need support. I believe the people who lash out and bully are insecure people who need to feel powerful. Prejudice, bigotry and hatred is taught. Adam, as his parents did, is teaching acceptance, understanding and love. Adam celebrates being different and by his example of strength, he can help others that are victims of this senseless hurt. Adam is successful and is loved and appreciated for who he is. I was moved by what he said in the vid, and my hope is that others who need to hear this will be as well.

  15. I love this guy and what he’s all about – him coming out like this to help younger people deal with this is wonderful – showing them they can be who they are and it’s alright.

In fact, what he’s saying here can basically be said to anyone who feels different than others in all kinds of ways and not just being gay. Be who you are, be positive and live your life the way you want. If others see you are strong in your convictions, most will understand and accept who you are. If others don’t, it’s their problem, not yours.

  16. Tina Glamb#654 says:

Hey everybody! I’m gonna make my daughter watch this. She is gay, and she dropped out of school because of being bullied so much. I had meetings with the teachers too many times to count, and they didn’t care. I told them, that she was a prime example of what was happening at other schools like Paduka (I went to school there, and I know how that kid felt), but the teachers don’t care. I’ve tried telling my daughter to ignore the ignorant bastards, but she can’t. I was bullied in school too, but school was my escape from home. I’m trying to get her and her girlfriend to go back to school, I told them night school was better and easier. I also told her when someone is running their mouth about you, it’s cause they don’t have a life of their own to talk about. Screw those people, and don’t let them bring you down. Life is too short for all the BULLSH*T!! The Ellen show is having a lot of celebrities do PSA’s about their experience of being bullied, trying to get this stopped. My daughter was a cutter for a while and she also OD’d a few years ago, and I laid in the hospital for 3 days with her. I told her if she didn’t stop it, I was gonna whoop her ass. She stopped!! After scaring me half to death. She hasn’t cut since. When she is here, I make up excuses to go into the bathroom when she’s getting in the shower. I know that may be a little much, but I’m the only one she has looking out for her in that respect. If I’m out somewhere and see it going on, I jump in. I’m old school. Back in the day, the neighborhood did watch out for the other kids, and if you did wrong, you got whipped all the way home, and prayed that your mom thought you had enough!! Anyway, we all have to do our part to stop this. Kids are commiting suicide over this bullying. I know from experience. My daughter will be 21 in April, and she tells me all the time, “I’m grown”. I tell her she’s never gonna be grown to me..she’s my only one, and nobody better ever hurt her again!!

LOTS OF LOVE TO ALL..ESPECIALLY MY “HUSBAND” ADAM!! LOL!!!

    Tina..aka..MISTRESS LAMBERT

  17. kat23mogan says:

Adam is inspirational…even though he is just trying to do his awesome music…he is…I am glad he is speaking out….I think he is beginning to realize what a huge impact he is making in the music industry and to those living out their every day lives who are gay. You rock Adam!!

  18. AllaboutAdam says:

If anyone can get a message across… it’s our Adam! Just another example of his inner-strength and beauty. I could listen to him talk for hours…if he ever loses his golden voice, he would be a terrific therapist, or a counselor. And if/when he ever becomes a parent… his kids will be extremely lucky to have his input and his insight. Long ago, all of us here realized what DOES define Adam Lambert. Wish everyone could “know” him the way we do. Grace, humility, love, candor, kindness, honesty, beauty, infinite talent, not to mention A TON of good old common sense….WHAT A MAN.

    • Yes! Still don’t understand that so many are unaware of him, not interested or just plain against him.
How for crying out loud can you be against somebody who always sends the message of Love, Acceptance and Tolerance, well history kind has shown us already.

  19. Adam, Thank you SO much for such an intelligent view on different lifestyles. We are “straight”, but very overwhelmed with the way you are handling this difficult situation. We love you for taking such an optomistic and refreshing view. You are much more mature than your years and much more aware of all the perverse things and situations around you. For the record, we are SO proud of you and hope and pray that you can continue to handle all the ignorant people out there and please, please, please stay SAFE. We have finally found our most tallented and self-confident performer and want you around for many, many, many years. Love you now and forever, Rita & Donna
CONTINUE, CONTINUE, CONTINUE, CONTINUE, CONTINUE, CONTINUE 🙂 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. Jane Parker says:

If anyone can turn this thing of BULLYING around, it is ADAM and his followers.

What ever happened to, if you can’t say anything good about anyone, don’t say anything at all. That is what I was taught by my parents and my schools, to know when to say something AND when to keep your mouth SHUT.

What has become of tactfullness?? Well, I could write a book here about what is NOT taught in our schools today.

    • I agree with my Sister in Adam! We can be a Powerful Force! And I so agree with you on the tactfullness, people just say whatever comes up in there heads and think it is ok. You can think whatever you want but you don’t always have to speak what you think.

  21. kat23mogan says:

Hi all…go to People’s choice and vote for Adam…vote for him as fav male artist, pop artist of year, best song of year and even best wonderwall celeb…do it by choosing other at bottom and putting in info…Can not believe People’s choice snubbed him in list…are they crazy????

  22. Helaine Ferebee says:

My heart breaks for each of these children who have to put up with this abuse. I was bullied as a child but for being fat, not for being gay – I didn’t even know I was gay until I was 20 because I was raised in a small agricultural town and there were no gay people back then who would live there.
It does get better, kids. I lived it and I know it does. Listen to Adam. He is so right – small minded people are just that – small. I too was taught to keep my mouth shut if I didn’t have anything nice to say. Unfortunately, kids these days have parents who want to be their cool friends, not their parents and consequently we have a generation of children who basically do whatever they like. It’s sad….

  23. Glamourclamor says:

Anyone who doesn’t understand that Adam is being paid back for the AMA’s by making people aware of his sexual orientation. just doesn’t understand this Country. It’s politically based and will continue to be so. Go against the tide of what is “acceptable” and pay the price. This land of the Free is not about freedom for all. If it was, there would not be a ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ rule in the military. This is a Country which is scarcely recovered from people wearing white sheets and lynching. How often do you read about hate crimes? Too often. The media mouths platitudes about being unbiased, but they are notoriously biased. Thousands of gay people are afraid to come out of the closest, with good reason. Young people are afraid to go to their parents, who should be the first people they talk to. Are they, no they are taking their own lives, rather than stand up and be counted. I marched for Civil Rights, yet there are still places in the US that these laws are barely tolerated. this is a country where I have lived very comfortably because I am white of west European background. My own gay son, was not so lucky. One must wonder at the dismay Adam feels when he is constantly defending his right to be who he is. I am sure he did not expect some of the backlash that he has received, coming from a loving family and an open environment. If the tragedy of these unfortunate deaths does anything, it may open dialogue. My only question is how long will this dialogue last? We have too many ugly Americans among us.

    • I also heard that radio stations in the States won’t play Fever, because it’s directed to a man. Is it true?
But I guess every gay person who proudly makes himself/herself seen and heard, makes a difference. And Adam is going to be the first gay superhero!

  24. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE DAY AN ARTICLE IS WRITTEN ABOUT ADAM’S PERFORMANCE AND OR TALENT WITH “no” MENTION OF “OPENLY GAY PERFORMER”…I AM SO SICK OF READING IT AND HEARING IT…GOD ONLY KNOWS THERE IS SOOO MUCH MORE TO THIS MAN. WHAT DOES SEX ORIENTATION HAVE TO DO WITH HIS VOCAL TALENT??? OPRAY SAID IT WOULD CHANGE….I’M WAITING.

    • Mary-Ellen #444 says:

If you get a chance, read the article over at Adam Official about our boy’s visit to Ft. Lewis military base in Washington state. Kudos to the author of the article – not one mention about being an “openly gay performer” just Adam’s heartfelt gratitude to those serving in the military; he is amazingly articulate as always. The fans at the base exchange obviously returned the love; again another reason to admire Adam; the man continually blows me away!

  25. What a powerful speech. I wish my son had had someone like Adam when he was in high school. There will always be bullies and haters in this world. Maybe someday EVERYONE can live their lives without fear. Thank you Adam. I will share this with everyone I know.

  26. Adam, you put tears in my eyes. You are such a beautiful person. I am so incredibly thankful to be a part of your life, journey, just happy to be alive so I can hear you, see you and know that there ARE wonderful people like you on this earth.

  27. BRAVO Adam!

    Standing O.

  28. Adam is very articulate and speaks right to you. I wonder if he wrote part of this or made it up as he went along. It was very organized and put together well.

  29. KO's smiling says:

I love him. Such a young, casual look here. He knows how to be honest and accessible. I hope this is sent out where those who need to hear it, will.

  30. Adam, Thanks for putting your message out there, it will make a difference for many, God bless! 🙂

  33. tweeterpie says:

This message video by Adam is a perfect example of why I adore him so much. He is not only an amazing singer & performer but he has a beautiful soul & genuinely cares about people. He’s so refreshing too, mostly because of his openness & honesty, but also because he living his truth. I think he will help countless others learn to live their own truth and actually learn to blossom in it. Adam’s a wonderful role model, not just for gay teens, but for all people that feel different and unaccepted by others. He is a gift to this Universe and we are all blessed to share in his brilliance.

  34. LOVE YOU ADAM; YOUR PERSONAL LIFE IS THAT YOURS! FOR ME YOU ARE GREAT THE BEST VOICE I’VE EVER HEARD IN A LONG TIME!!! THERE IS NO ONE LIKE YOU OUT THERE; YOU ARE MAGNIFICENT; GOD BLESS YOU!! AND TAKE CARE!

  35. Adam is so sweet and so sensitive. And he is still facing bullies on his tour because of his orientation. Listen to what he and others who are out of school say. IT GETS BETTER!!!
Don’t let negative, narrow minded people through you off your course. As you grow up you will find an accepting place in this world. Stand up for yourself and be brave and know know that the majority of people out there accept you and respect your place in this world!
IT GETS BETTER AS YOU GROW UP!! BELIEVE IT!
