Adam Lambert Covered on The Voice! Adam Levine’s Voice Puzzles Many!

Okay Glambs, I don’t want to start a war here, but we’ve got to talk about last night’s The Voice. I was SO proud to hear that Adam Lambert was being covered. Another feather in his cap! I have loved Nakia’s past performances and was excited to hear his take on Whattaya Want From Me. At first I wasn’t happy to hear of his disappointment in song choice. But he redeemed himself by admitting once he listened to the words, that it was a great song.

And then he sang it. Yes, he did a really good job portraying his version of the emotions of the song, but he seemed to have lost track of his words, sang something at the wrong time, and then the rest of the song felt off.

But this was NOTHING in comparison to Adam Levine’s comments. First Levine looked awkward when he first said he wasn’t really familiar with the song. WHAAAATTTTT? Adam, your music is in the same Pop category as Adam Lambert’s, and Lambert had a grammy nomination for best song, so how could you NOT know the song??? Now my sister just told me that Adam Levine is known for not listening to the radio, etc., but it just seems weird. And then Levine deepens his grave by saying “I’m sure you sang it better than the original.” WHAAAATTTTTT? ARE YOU KIDDDDINNNGGG MEEEE??? If you truly didn’t know the song, why would you say that???

Adam Lambert obviously watches the earlier east coast broadcast, because his tweets are ahead of western program time. So we were prepared for something to have happened when these tweets came through:

adamlambert Yeah Nakia! Saaaang boy!! Great performance. I think Adam might know who I am after this next album. Get ready for me Levine. Hahah

adamlambert
But for the record, Im def a Maroon 5 fan. Fans: there is NO reason to be angry. Thanks for being protective but it’s all good. 🙂

If you didn’t catch the show, here is the clip:

I have to get out to an appointment so I’ll leave it here for your comments. Please remember our lessons in positivity, but we have a right to be fans too! All good, Adam! 🙂

Love ya!

About Carol

I started writing on this site back in May 2009, not knowing what I was in for or where it would take me. I had no idea of the joy and personal satisfaction I'd find here. I never dreamed that I'd get to meet Adam, but that dream came true! The bonus of becoming such great friends with Lila and the other fans is what keeps me going. Music gets me though every day. In addition to Adam, I love Muse, Linkin Park, 80s and finding newer bands and supporting them by attending everything that's within 350 miles. With Adam, the boundaries are farther! Thanks for joining us on this ride! :)

  1. Peggy NL says:

I think rather than making this into something negative, why don’t we take it as an opportunity? We should send Mr. Levine a copy of the two CDs – FYE and the acoustic EP. What do you think?? The high road is the road less travelled but probably will leave the best impression.

    • I think this is an excellent idea!

    • I like Maroon 5, but Mr. Levine seems a bit arrogant. It makes me not want to listen to him? Cockiness makes a person not likable. Even Christina, a true icon, is more gracious than Adam L. He could take a lesson from our Adam on how to be gracious and personable!

  2. Princessshakeitup says:

I think Mr. Levine is a liar liar pants on fire. I think he knew exactly what he was saying.

    • i was really starting to like levine…..until he made that comment……he’s a liar if he said he didn’t know it……now i don’t like him or maroon 5 anymore…….so there adam levine….i wont purchase your album now

    • I agree completely. It seems to me like Levine and Blake Shelton both got their digs into our Adam. Shelton is still pissed off about Adam’s comments about Miranda’s dress at an award red carpet event. Shelton made some very homophobic remarks about Adam at that time. Now he has a national platform to dig. Don’t know why Levine dislikes our Adam unless he is jealous of his voice, looks and fans??? Or maybe he was just helping his new friend, Blake Shelton. BTW, I hated Shelton’s corny song and was not impressed by Levine’s song either.

  3. Onegoodwoman says:

Adam’s tweet was so nice. He is just the best all around guy. We need more Adams, of course there will be not other as great as him. I had a hard time listening to the performance on the Voice last night because that song was meant for Adam.

  4. No-one compares to Adam. But, what a great song for someone to cover.

  5. Personally I prefer Adam’s version – this fellow seems to drag some of the words a bit making the verses a bit slow. I’m not from the US and am not watching The Voice but I do question the qualifications of Adam Levine’s judging a show where he’s never heard of this song or its original singer. Surely he even knows what songs are coming so he can school himself up on the orginal versions before going to air. Very slack judging if you ask me.

  6. Darlene says:

I am a huge Adam Lambert fan. I went to 4 GlamNation tours last summer. Adam is an amazing performer, singer & human being. Having said that, I am really beginning to think that Adam Lambert fans take themselves way too seriously & frankly it’s beginning to wear thin for me. Adam Levine operates in a different part of the pop universe. Let’s take the “worst case scenario” i.e. Adam Levine genuinely doesn’t know the song. Big deal. Does it make it any less of a wonderful song? But maybe he did know exactly what the song is & who sang it originally. Adam Levine’s job on The Voice is to promote the show & the singers on the show hence “I’m sure you sang it better than the original”.

In my opinion, Adam Lambert doesn’t need (or want) this kind of blind fanaticism/inappropriate anger/ruffled feathers from his fans. People need to lighten up.

    • Darlene, I agree with you. It’s time we realize that Adam doesn’t need us to defend his talent. He’s a complete and accomplished performer and a real professional. He knows what’s important and that happens to be his music and staying true to his dream. As fans, we are so overwhelmed with our love and respect for him that sometimes we do more harm than good when we rush to his defence. Adam doesn’t need us to defend him…just keep on loving and supporting him. Let’s do that by promoting goodwill, peace, love, charity, harmony, and NOH8.

    • But Darlene, don’t you think he should at least make himself familiar with a song he is judging? no matter what song or who sang it?

    • Lila - Glamb #3 says:

I agree. We need to get off of ourselves and realize that just because we live in a bubble doesn’t mean everyone does. Just because someone thinks they are “kind of” in the same genre, doesn’t mean they all know each other’s songs. I didn’t even know who Adam Levine was until this whole thing came up.

By the way, I’ve heard some crappy covers, but this guy covered Adam Lambert’s song pretty well.

  7. Darlene says:

Sorry, I meant 4 GlamNation Tour CONCERTS last summer.

  8. I didn’t see the show last night, so I had to watch the YouTube to see what all the ferocity was about. I fear that Glambert fans can really get so riled up about every little tiny thing. Who cares what Adam Levine has to say about not recognizing the song? He’s pretty self absorbed and into his own band, writing usually misogynistic songs to fill an album where all the lyrics could easily move from one song to the next. (I guess I’m not the biggest fan of Maroon 5-they are a one hit per album band) but honestly-let it lie. He claims he doesn’t know this one song-so what? For the record, I didn’t hear Christina, Blake or Cee-Lo name the artist either, and Adam has totally fawned over how he would like to work with Christina someday, and I’m also willing to bet, given Maroon 5’s “failed relationship” oriented rock, that Adam doesn’t really love them that much either. So, my hope is that the Beiberish fantype reactions will mature a bit.

  9. Shirlee says:

At least Adam Lambert and the song was the lead in so all of Adam’s fans should be happy about that. Sining better than Adam…………….not in the life time!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Glamity58 says:

I agree with Darlene and Ana and many of the other comments. We don’t want to look fanatical as fans, so we should just let this lay. Truly Christina is the only one on the show with the fabulous “voice,” so I don’t get too caught up in their remarks about the singing. Maybe Levine is just trying to get a reaction out of us and it seemed to work. It’s no big deal to me and I’m just glad someone sang an Adam Lambert song instead of another artist’s song. Adam Lambert was right, it’ all good.

  11. Sandyra says:

Why is he singing this song so angrily in the part right after the beginning? I don’t see the big deal with this guy anyway. Obviously, neither the audience nor the judges have never heard Adam’s sultry, sexy version of this song!!! Omg, that song is over-the-top amazing!!! Drives me crazy, too.

Frankly, I think the singers on the Voice are largely second-rate anyway. I’ve watched it a few times but found the singers to be substandard to Idol singers by and large. Good thing they all have those lights, dancers, and staging behind them.

    • Sandyra says:

PPS – Sorry, I was thinking about Whole Lotta Love when I said that the song drove me wild. Whattaya and Lotta got me confused. lol

  12. Sandyra says:

PS – They should make the singers on The Voice sing a cappella – then we could see who can really sing and who needs backup.

    • the1gypsyqueen says:

WHAAAT!!! Sing a cappala? Nooo!!! Don’t be mean. That would show them up for what they really are, braying tone deaf donkeys with laryngitis. The singers need all the fluff and nonsence they can get so they can pretend to sound awesome.

  13. What?! Our Adam is the best !!!!!

  14. What’s there to say except Adam is the “ultimate voice”.

  15. eriskay says:

I think levine was being disingenuous. Yes, how could he say that Nakia probably sang it better than the original artist, if he hadn’t heard the song. He mentioned twice that he hadn’t heard the song. I know that Adam can handle himself very well, but fans do react, when they hear nonsense like this. Reportedly, he apologized on ENews. Don’t know if that’s true, but we’ll see.

  16. if this guy is a judge or whatever you think he would be familiar with music. if he was familiar at all with Adam he would not have made the comment he did. are you kidding me is there anyone who cam belt out a song better than Adam Lambert.

  17. Leilani aloha says:

Adam Lambert one class act with Amazing vocals & charisma!
have been & always will be an Adam Lambert fan from day 1 of AI!!!
Can’t wait to listen & buy his 2nd album!!! Yeahhhhh!!!

Adam Lambert stay as beautiful inside & outside the way u are !
    love ya !

  18. eriskay says:

http://youtu.be/SErKtJvNZOQ Just saw this on YouTube. Hope it shows okay.

  19. Glambert 2397 says:

I do not buy the feigned ignorance – his comments were deliberate and unnecessary. Jealous much Mr. Levine? I am disappointed — I was looking for a replacement for Idol. Guess I’ll just have to wait for the X Factor — never dreamed I’d miss Simon so much!

  20. I can’t watch The Voice here in OZ; but after that performance who f8cken cares. WTF. I think the judges must be deaf. go ADAM go. amazing vocal range; personality; sexuality; loads of glam and glitter; can’t wait for new album I know it will be something spectacular, luv ya lotz ps: TJR luv ya 2

  21. It would really seem ok for me if Levine just said that he had not heard of the song….but to say that Nakia’s version is better than the original is just questionable. Wny on earth would he presume such a thing or even say such a thing if he truly had not heard the original version? Very bad judging, I must say!!!

  22. Tina Glamb#645 says:

Has the guy on the panel been living under a rock?? Hasn’t heard the original version…He’s a dumbass!! My “husband” is THE MAN!!! 🙂 Oh, and my cousin is named Nakia….you don’t hear that name too often!

    MISTRESS LAMBERT #645 :p

  23. Better than original singer? Adam Lambert and Pink? haha NOT. too funny. I’m surprised Christina didn’t know it was Adam’s song originally. Lakia didn’t do a bad job with it. It was bearable. I just love Adam’s take on it.

  24. Mary-Ellen #444 says:

You know, I think its all good! I too am not real happy with what Adam Levine said, but ultimately it has resulted in more publicity for our Adam (how many may rush out to listen to the song that may have missed it previously? Guarantee Mr. Levine will listen now!). It is good for AL to remain in the public eye, I fear he has not had much exposure lately (what are you doing AL managers?). Good can ultimately come from what was originally a negative. Once again our Adam triumphs!

  25. i felt the same way when adam levine was saying he never heard the song…is he out of his mind? i’m sure someone reminded him after….. i never really cared for adam levine before the voice- but i kinda like him now- except for the minor diss….he is very talented also & who knows? maybe they will meet up someday & do a song together. that would be cool!

  26. Mandytwo says:

Last night on the E Channel adam levine apologized and said he hoped MR LAMBERT was not personally offended by his comment. That he was raked over the coals on Twitter and he wanted to say that it was not a personal attack on him. And that he should be proud to have such a great fan following and he(himself) sees how much his fans protect him and he(himself likes that). This was on the same night he made the comment. Backstage he was interviewed about the comment. The E commentator said levine went to them to talk about it.

    • Mandytwo says:

Also I heard ADAM say he was working with CEE LO on his(ADAMS) new album so another reason for adam levine to know exactly what he was saying. I forgot to say that in my post.

  27. hi.some adam fans are aggrassive and make adam looks bad in every situation be class act like him.

  28. scootersmom says:

Now folks, we all know that Adam Levine was not in a truthful state of mind when he said he’d never heard the song, or when he said his singer did it better than the original. C’mon, Adam Levine, either you’ve heard the song and know darn well who sang it or you’ve been under a rock for the past year or so.

    • I agree totally. OF COURSE he’d been under a rock. No, he was under his rock with that same chair. He needs to be smacked a couple of times just so he can get a clue. Tbh, that one singer dude made me kinda lose interest.

  29. ADAM LEVINE WHO? I’VE NEVER HEARD OF HIM EITHER!!!!

    • Flamingo Lady says:

I’d never heard of Adam Levine either, and after seeing him perform on the show last night, I don’t particularly care to hear him again. Kinda insipid song and performance. I expect after this, he’ll find out who OUR Adam is soon enough.

  30. glamb# 442 Paula says:

i did know adam levine until the voice and i thought his performance wasn’t all that. BUT Cello knew Adam Lambert!!!! this is a huge props!!

    • Mandytwo says:

Adam said he was working with Cee Lo on one of his songs on his(Adams) new album.

      GLAMB 616

  31. Well, see??? Right here, there are 4 comments in a row about not knowing who Adam Levine is. I never heard of him either. But I do recognize songs and not necessarily the artists. So……..my knowledge doesn’t count for much. lol

  32. KO's smiling says:

I have to throw a comment in here. I saw Maroon 5 at a festival with many other bands a few years back. I liked their music and figured they’d be one of the highlights of the day. HORRIBLE! They had to be embarrassed. People were yelling at them to let the next guys on. He sang out of tune and was flopping around on stage, AND came across as arrogant.

I’ve never seen the Voice but from this clip it looks like not much has changed with Mr. Levine.

The cover was great, though! Thanks Pink for a simply awesome song. Love our Adam’s response, too.

  33. Same ol’, Same ol’ – some men, even those in the music “profession” feel they can’t make positive comments or even acknowledge Adam’s great talent and appeal. So sad!!

  34. Glamburger says:

I’ve been defending Barry Manilow for 35 years and am too exhausted to do any more defending. Having said that, I caught The Voice a couple of times and it seemed to me that Adam Levine appeared somewhat arrogant and phony.

  35. Luke Easton says:

guys I dont agree with what levene said, but this is huge exposure for adam!! at that point the only way he was socially relevant was through twitter, what are adams managers doing????? Whens the last time Adams been on tv? Been to a red carpet event? Look I understand he is busy, but one day he is going to bigger then Elvis Presley, that is not going to happen at this rate. But the fact his song was covered is huge exposure for adam, I also think the whole durban thing got adam more fans thanks james! lol. Adam well be a legend, im a glambert im a huge fan, and I admit I get a bit angry everytime someone attacks adam, but we got a realise people have diversed opinions adams capable of dealing with it.
