Adam Lambert – Are Wedding Bells in the Future?

Don’t start checking the bridal registries looking for Adam Lambert yet. Even with New York’s legalization of gay marriage, Adam isn’t interested, according to an interview with Ian Drew for He’s now qualified that by tweeting, “not in the NEAR future. Get it right.” However, we can start looking forward seeing Adam on Sunday’s upcoming episode of VH1 Behind The Music.

Now that gay marriage is legal in NY state, everybody is placing bets on which gay celebrities will be hopping on a plane to say their vows there. But take your money off of Adam Lambert! Us Weekly talked with the openly gay pop star and American Idol alum about his new episode of VH1 Behind The Music (premiering this Sunday, August 7, at 10 p.m.) and squeezed in a question about his new boyfriend, Sauli Koskinen. Here’s what the infamously open Lambert had to say about marriage for himself.

US: Why did you decide to take part in VH1 Behind the Music?
AL: I have seen previous episodes and it has always been something I have been interested in. I did not have any doubts about doing the show because I had previously done E! True Hollywood Story, which was more biographical. This episode focuses more on my music.
US: What will we see in the episode?
AL: The episode will portray a deeper, more personal view of my life. I was not always happy go lucky and things weren’t always easy. At times things were difficult and confusing. Coming out of American Idol I was thrown into the spotlight so quickly and I faced many obstacles. I am finally starting to feel comfortable in this industry and in my own skin. The fans will get to see how I feel. There wasn’t anything that was off limits for this episode because I am pretty open with my fans. I spoke about a lot.
US: What obstacles have you faced on your journey of becoming an entertainer?
AL: I haven’t really faced many obstacles. I had a great, easy upbringing. I came out of the closet at eighteen and my family was supportive of me. I participated in numerous extracurricular activities and I was involved in the arts, which was an understanding environment. The only thing I found difficult was when I had to audition for the part of a romantically involved straight man because I had a hard time feeling comfortable and understanding the role. On the episode I talk about my experimentation with drugs but it didn’t really affect my career in any way.
US: Do you think your sexual orientation has affected your career?
AL: It has caused controversy and at first I got nervous. This is a tricky career path, especially since most musicians aren’t as open as I am. At first I thought, did I go too far? Was this a mistake? I realized I have to trust my gut and be myself. I can’t please everyone.
US: What is your relationship like with boyfriend Sauli Koskinen? Any marriage plans yet?
AL: I don’t like to talk about my relationship so if you see pictures of us out to dinner together, then great! I don’t see myself getting married in the future.
US: When will we hear new music from you?
AL: I have been busy in the studio writing and recording so that has been taking up most of my time. I have had a lot of time to reflect on my journey. I have learned and grown and evolved. I am proud of the strides I’ve made. I am thinking the album will be out in the fall.
US: Can you describe the material on your upcoming album?
AL: This album is different in that is has a more serious tone. There is definitely fun, upbeat music on there too. This album has a thread of honesty in that it is real and personal. On this album I let people in further. It is an autobiographical album that portrays my dreams and aspirations. There are also some songs that deal with heartache and love. Whereas my old album was fun, campy, and over the top, this album is more contemporary and honest. The last album was more of a fantasy and this album is a search for my identity.
US: Any upcoming plans?
AL: I will be in New York recording the album. Lately I have had more involvement with different sociopolitical campaigns like The Trevor Project and Do Something. There is a quote in the VH1 Behind the Scenes special where I say, “I feel like I am an entertainer, not a politician.” Beforehand I was leery about commenting on certain things but I am now more comfortable voicing my opinion on issues like marriage equality.

About Carol

I started writing on this site back in May 2009, not knowing what I was in for or where it would take me. I had no idea of the joy and personal satisfaction I'd find here. I never dreamed that I'd get to meet Adam, but that dream came true! The bonus of becoming such great friends with Lila and the other fans is what keeps me going. Music gets me though every day. In addition to Adam, I love Muse, Linkin Park, 80s and finding newer bands and supporting them by attending everything that's within 350 miles. With Adam, the boundaries are farther! Thanks for joining us on this ride! :)

Nice article that doesn’t focus too much on his relationship with Sauli. I just want to hear about his journeys and the end result – the album.

  2. Daffy Doodle says:

Got a bang how quick Adam reacted to what had to have sounded negative to people in Finland, and maybe even Sauli. Adam got good and pissed, and Sauli making jokes. These two make a very good team. That said, understand that Sauli not being an American, marriage would be very difficult. Also, pretty sure Adam has his hands full with his album, promotion, etc. going on. Lots on his plate at the moment. If these two can stay together for a few years, who knows what will happen. btw, love it when Adam shows that Alpha Male side! It gets everyone’s attention.

I am even more excited about the new album and the Vh1 show after reading this article. I was lucky enough to be at the concert in Ste. Agathe (after 4 GNT concerts.) Outlaws of Love is an incredible song which really shows off Adam’s voice, and feels so honest. Adam honors his fans by sharing so much of himself with us. I wish we fans knew what more we could do to spread the word. Too many are still unaware of the huge talent and heart right here. He should be all over the airways- radio and TV. Can’t wait for the new album. And the next tour. I have never before been a “groupie”, or a concert go-er, or a music buyer. But I am now!! It’s a cliche, but Adam makes me want to listen to music agaln. He makes me smile!!

  4. i think the writer of us magazine isnt happy about what adam said.adam said no getting married in future and he said what he meants on twitter.another storm article.

adam better gives good album:rock and roll, bombastic performences, rock more suited for hes voice.awsome album cover and punk style and songs.

adam have to watchout whats hes saying on twitter.

please everyone vote adam on vh1.

  5. Adam in this interview, sounded more subdued and sublime. What with the rest, relaxation and some reflection on his life. This is just right and good for his health. He is a wise man who can go through periods and processes of transformation but keeping things in the right perspectives – friends, family and loved ones taking priority. One can accumulate money, but shouldn’t lose this priority. He is not afraid or insecure of taking some time off or going on a vacation, for fear that he’ll lose the limelight or some fans. Maybe, he also realize that fans need a rest or break of their adoration to him, and focus time on their work and family. Life indeed is beautiful and balanced in ADAMLANDIA.

After a period of self-reflection and reinvigorating vacation, Adam’s next album will reflect the calmness and sobriety that he had after his respite. It will be like the calm and the deep lapiz lazuli ocean, when one lies down on a hammock in an uninhabited white-sand island, fanned by the sea breezes and lulled by the lapping waves. It will be like the beauty of the break of dawn where heaven sings its hallelujah chorus when the sun’s rays strike the crests of waves and breaks them into shimmering rivulets of gold. Then the waves laugh, lapping on the sandy shore. Let the sunshine in….. subtle and sublime. Let the dewdrops fall, catching the sun’s rays,,,, and cascading into prisms of kaleidoscopic colors. . . . Suspended in the air…. iridescent in time. . .caught by the tunes of Adam’s song….. Be there in this land where Adam transport us, once more.
